This'n'That; January Sixth [The 'Gunny;' PollResults; Oaths]

R. Lee Ermey  "The Gunny"
Speak The Truth? DO NOT Apologize!!
If you're able to wake up each morning and take nourishment, you've seen this guy.  He does those really cool 'analyst' ads for GEICO Insurance.  Most know R. Lee Ermey as 'The Gunny.'  Marine Sergeant Ermey (Ret),  during a December 10, 2010 appearance on Roe & Roeper's Miracle on Indianapolis Blvd. Holiday Extravaganza broadcast, benefitting the USO's "Toys 4 Tots," took the opportunity to unload on "Clown Prince" obama.  'The Gunny' claimed the current regime was destroying the country to impose socialism.
His monologue:
“Not to point fingers at anybody, but the present administration probably has a lot to do with that. And the way I see it, they’re not going to quit doing it until they bring this country to its knees. So I think we should all rise up and we should stop this Administration from what they are doing, because they are destroying this country. They’re driving us into bankruptcy so they can impose socialism on us. That’s exactly what they’re doing, and I’m sick and damn tired of it and I know you are too. But I know the Marine Corps is going to be here forever – this Administration won’t. Semper Fi. God Bless you all.”
Sergeant Ermey's monologue just happened to be the truth!! Sadly, on January Fourth 'The Gunny' felt obligated to back away from this truism in the form of a half-assed; half-hearted apology:
“I recently appeared at a fundraising event designed to collect toys and raise awareness for underprivileged children. While that event succeeded in raising thousands of dollars and hundreds of toys for this cause, I regret that I delivered a monologue that was inappropriately critical of the President. I was trying to be entertaining and simply went too far in this instance. I am mindful that my success as an entertainer relates in part to my experience in the Marine Corps, my devotion to its members, and the deep respect I have for members of all our Armed Forces. My comments should not be seen as reflecting on them or their views. I was just very disappointed in the amount of success that we were having raising toys and money for the underprivileged children this season. The poor economy has greatly hampered our efforts. My comments were misguided, and emotionally based, and for that I am truly sorry.”
Semper Fi
I first 'got wind' of this through a blog I followhttp://www.bungalowbillscw.blogspot.com/ .
The author--'Bungalow Bill'--said this about that:
http://www.examiner.com/conservative-in-spokane/r-lee-ermey-says-obama-administration-destroying-america?cid=parsely#parsely
"However, as a Marine, Ermey doesn't forget the code and puts the Marine Corps first in his apology, and his apology is never directed towards Obama. I am still a huge fan."
Others left comments on Bill's site, most notibly:

    R. Lee Ermey was in the US Marine Corps for 11 years. He rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant, and later was bestowed the honorary rank of Gunnery Sergeant by the Marine Corps, after he served 14 months in Vietnam and later did 2 tours in Okinawa, Japan. After injuries forced him to retire from the Corps.

Regarding his role in Full Metal Jacket. He was not intended to be in Full Metal Jacket (1987). He was hired as a technical advisor for the actor who was to play the drill instructor, but he did such a good job at it that Ermey himself was hired for the part.
He was involved in a jeep accident during the making of Full Metal Jacket (1987). At 1:00 a.m. one morning, he skidded off the road, breaking all the ribs on his left side. He refused to pass out and kept flashing his car lights until a motorist stopped. In some scenes in the movie, he does not move his left arm at all.

'Tea Party' Label Gaining Acceptance
As Scott Rasmussen reports, being a 'Tea Partier' is gaining acceptance while the labels of 'progressive' and 'liberal' are droppin' like a brick!!
  • Calling someone a Tea Party candidate is seen positively by 31%, unchanged from September, but negatively by 32%.  33% put it somewhere in between. In September, 38% viewed Tea Party as a negative.
  • Being described as a progressive, on the other hand, is a positive for 22% of voters and a negative for 34%, with 41% seeing it in between. But in the previous survey, voters were evenly divided, with 29% saying progressive was a positive description and 28% describing it as a negative. This marks a continuing downward trend for progressive which little over three years ago was slightly more popular than conservative.
  • Conservative, in fact, is the only political label other than “moderate” that is a net plus for a candidate.

obamaCare obamaKare Poll Results
On Monday RasmussenReports released their latest poll results on obamaKare:
  • For the second week in a row 60% of likely voters favor repeal of the national health care law. This includes 46% who Strongly Favor repeal. 36% oppose repeal of the law, with 27% who are Strongly Opposed.
  • Support for repeal has ranged from 50% to 63% in weekly tracking since March of last year.
  • 76% of voters with health insurance now rate their coverage as good or excellent. Only 4% describe it as poor.
  • 45% of voters with health care insurance believe the new law will force them to change coverage, with 26% who say it is Very Likely. 46% think it is unlikely that they will have to change their coverage, including 19% say that’s Not At All Likely to happen.

Military And Political Oaths
From the years 1964 through 1979 (not continuous), I repeated this oath five times, covering two branches of the armed forces.  I can unequivocally say that ONLY PART of the oath stays with the truely patriotic member or the former member for a lifetime!  I've 'shaded' the portion that I hold dear, to this day!!
In the Armed Forces EXCEPT the National Guard:
I, (NAME), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.

Til Nex'Time....
{**} For reference, here's the oath of office taken by federal officeholders:
{****}http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2010/12/29/r_lee_ermey_unloads_on_socialist_obama.html

{*}I find in quite ironic that the 1884 congressional authors built 'wiggle room' into their oath of office.  Whereas, military enlistees enter their name into the oath; the members of Congress do not!!  If necessary, the Congress--mostly lawyers--can find a way to wiggle out of the aforementioned oath should the necesssity arise!!
(In the interests of 'fairness' I was in error;  The federal officeholders DO enter their names onto oath documents!!)
The politicians--on the other hand--have different views on the subject and meaning of their oath of office.
