250ft drug smugglers' tunnel under Mexico-US border discovered
By Nick Allen, Los Angeles
10 May 2011
    It stretched for 250ft under the border from an abandoned building in Nogales, Mexico, to another city also called Nogales in Arizona.  The tunnel, which was 15ft below the surface, was discovered by US Border Patrol agents and is the most elaborate of eight found in the area since October.  Chief Patrol Agent Randy Hill said: "This tunnel is more sophisticated than other recently discovered tunnels. They chiselled through solid rock and then installed electricity, lighting, water pumps, and ventilation.  "It is a prime example of the risks traffickers will take and the lengths they will go to smuggle contraband into our country." Arizona is a popular destination for  [....] {So much for owe-bama's border security!!}

Michelle Obama welcomes rapper to White House who called for burning of George Bush

By John Stevens
10th May 2011
First Lady Michelle Obama has invited a rapper who called for the burning of George Bush to perform at the White House.  Lonnie Rashid Lynn Jr, who uses the stage name ‘Common’, will be welcomed at an event celebrating American poetry on Wednesday.  He is expected to take part in rap workshops with schoolchildren in the afternoon before performing in the evening.
In footage on YouTube he is seen calling for the burning of the former president.  ‘Burn a Bush cos for peace he no push no button,’ the hip-hop artist raps in one video, which has more than 800,000 views.  Other song lyrics reportedly include threats to shoot the police.  The controversial rapper hails from President Obama’s hometown Chicago and has also rapped about the former Illinois senator.

COMMON ON... BUSH
Burn a Bush cos for peace he no push no button
Killing over oil and grease
No weapons of destruction
How can we follow a leader when this a corrupt one?

COMMON ON... owe-bama

Ariz. seeks online donations to build border fence

By PAUL DAVENPORT,
Associated Press
May 8, 2011PHOENIX – Arizona lawmakers want more fence along the border with Mexico — whether the federal government thinks it's necessary or not.  They've got a plan that could get a project started using online donations and prison labor. If they get enough money, all they would have to do is get cooperation from landowners and construction could begin as soon as this year.
Gov. Jan Brewer recently signed a bill that sets the state on a course that begins with launching a website to raise money for the work, said state Sen. Steve Smith, the bill's sponsor.  "We're going to build this site as fast as we can, and promote it, and market the heck out of it," said Smith, a first-term Republican senator from Maricopa.  Arizona — strapped for cash and mired in a budget crisis — is already using public donations to pay for its legal defense of the SB1070 illegal immigration law.  Part of the marketing pitch for donations could include providing certificates declaring that individual contributors "helped build the Arizona wall," Smith said. "I think it's going to be a really, really neat thing."
    Construction would start "after we've raised a significant amount of money first" but possibly as soon as later this year, Smith said.  "If the website is up and there is an overwhelming response to what we've done and millions of dollars in this fund, I would see no reason why engineering or initial construction or finalized plans can't be accomplished," he said.  The nearly 2,000-mile U.S.-Mexico border already has about 650 miles of fence of one type or another, nearly half of it in Arizona. The state's 376-mile border is [....] {Again, so much for owe-bama's border security!!}

Rand Paul: 'Right to health care' is slavery
By Kate Nocera, Politico
05/11/2011    A hearing of the Senate HELP subcommittee on primary health and aging looked at emergency room use and took an odd turn Wednesday when Sen. Rand Paul compared the "right to health care" to slavery.  "With regard to the idea whether or not you have a right to health care you have to realize what that implies. I am a physician. You have a right to come to my house and conscript me. It means you believe in slavery. You are going to enslave not only me but the janitor at my hospital, the person who cleans my office, the assistants, the nurses....You are basically saying you believe in slavery," said Paul, R-Ky., who is an ophthalmologist.
Paul, who is the subcommittee ranking member, said he believed that the notion of expanding federally funded community health centers to ensure that everyone had a "right" to care was not constitutional and would enslave doctors. Doctors, he said, should care for patients [....]

Is Obama Beatable?
May 11, 2011
by mainstreetradical.com
By every measure Obama should be a single term president. However, history does not bode well for his defeat. The Economy could sink him, after all it seems he has tried his best to sink the Economy, but take a look at the past trends. Clinton and Bush both seemed to be in major trouble in going into the race for a second term. However, the opposing parties nominated Dole and Kerry respectively. Much of the success of  [....]

Osama bin Laden to al-Qaeda: 'Don't bother assassinating Joe Biden'

By Toby Harnden-World
May 12, 2011
US officials have revealed that Osama bin Laden’s diaries contain the rather startling conclusion that he didn’t think Vice President Joe Biden was worth bumping off (hat tip: a tweet from my New York colleague Jon Swaine).  According to ProPublica, the Obama administration is briefing that Barack Obama was bin Laden’s the “top target” (no surprise there) while “military chiefs like the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the defense secretary” were also major scalps.  But Joe Biden’s scalp (hair plugs and all)? Apparently, not so much. A counterterrorism official said: “There is a note indicating that the vice president is not an important target because [....]

South End school battles chronic absenteeism
May 13, 2011
By James Vaznis, Globe Staff
It was the kind of a morning that school leaders worry about: cold and gusty, with a rain that pelted students on their way to school and gave them an excuse to stay home.  But the early news trickling into the main office at the Blackstone Elementary School was encouraging, as students sporting blue-and-white armbands reported head counts from their homerooms.  Several of these “attendance captains’’  [....]

Media Analysis: Context is Not Job One

By: Aaron E. Wicks
May 12, 2011
Rochester, NY (May 13, 2011) -- Do people follow the news to learn new things about the world around them or to confirm their existing views, giving them a sense of order and a belief (perhaps false) that they are masters of their universe? The migration of conservatives to Fox News and the liberal penchant for NPR suggests as much: people get information from people they trust and they are most interested in stories that fit existing mental models of the world.
Why is this relevant? It matters because the news business is just that: a business. And like any business, the news business works hard to know its customers’ tastes and to try to deliver a product that is in high demand. If people want to read about scandals, the news business sniffs out scandals and splashes them across the front page. If peoples' eyes glaze over when they read [....]
