What The National Pamphleteers Don't Report:
How to Get a $106,000 College Education for Free
by Lynn O'Shaughnessy,

CBS MoneyWatch
January 27, 2012
How would you like to go to a private liberal arts college that will give you a full-ride tuition scholarship for four years?
Sounds crazy? Actually, I'm serious.
Antioch College in Yellow Spring, Ohio, is waiving the tuition for all its students, who enroll in the next three years.
How much are these freebies worth? The value of the free tuition for the current year is $26,500. The scholarship, based on that price, makes each scholarship worth at least $106,000.  Some students, who file financial aid applications, will capture an even greater price break. If they qualify, they may get to skip the room and board charges or pay a reduced price. Antioch's room and board is currently $8,628.
Obviously, it's unheard of for a college to offer free tuition to its all students. There is, however, an explanation for the generosity.  Antioch is crawling out of the grave. Antioch College, which was originally founded by abolitionists in 1850, shut its door in 2008 after years of decline. Terrible management decisions, among other reasons, led to the closure, but tremendous financial support [....]

Health Insurance Deductibles Doubled in 7 Years, Study Finds

by ANN CARRNS
New York Times
January 27, 2012
If you've seen your health insurance premiums increase along with your deductible, you're not alone. A recent study by the Commonwealth Fund shows just how much more consumers are paying for employer-provided health insurance.  Total premiums -- the amount paid by both employers and workers combined -- for family coverage rose 50 percent from 2003 to 2010, to nearly $14,000 a year, the study found. (The fund is a private foundation that researches health policy issues. The report includes an interactive map showing premium increases by state.)  Workers, [....]

How Much Has The Taxpayer Recouped From TARP?
by Tim Parker,
investopedia.com

November 10, 2011
In 2008, at the brink of the subprime meltdown, President George W. Bush signed in to law a highly controversial bill that provided help to struggling banks who looked to be destined for bankruptcy. Not only did the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) provide aid to the banks, but it was that bill that gave America a new political buzzword: bailout.
TUTORIAL: Credit Crisis
Americans saw a price tag of $700 billion and immediately associated this figure with money lost. Each American citizen would contribute about $2,200 to a fund that would bailout greedy banks. Even today, especially during an election season, TARP has become an American poster child for corporate greed. Is it entirely accurate for Americans to hold such a grudge for TARP? Possibly not. Let's take a look at TARP three years later. (For a look at past government interventions in the market, read Top 6 U.S. Government Financial Bailouts.)
Not Even Close to $700 Billion
Although TARP was authorized for $700 billion, the price tag never came close to it. According to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), in March of 2011, $432 of the $700 billion [....]

A Hezbollah Threat in Thailand?

by Ben West,
stratfor.com
January 19, 2012

On Jan. 12, Thai authorities arrested a man they say was a member of the Lebanon-based Shiite militant group Hezbollah who was plotting an attack in Bangkok. In uncovering the plot, Thai police cite cooperation with the United States and Israel going back to December 2011. Bangkok is indeed a target-rich environment with a history of terrorist attacks, but today Hezbollah and other militant and criminal groups rely on the city as a business hub more than anything else. If Hezbollah or some other transnational militant group were to carry out an attack in the city, it would have to be for a compelling reason that outweighed the costs.
The suspect was identified as Hussein Atris, who was born in Lebanon but acquired Swedish citizenship and a passport after marrying a Swedish woman in 1996. Atris was arrested on immigration charges as he was trying to board a plane at Suvarnabhumi airport, Bangkok's main international airport. Police said another suspect is still at large and possibly already out of the country. Atris's arrest on Jan. 12 was followed by a statement the next day from the U.S. Embassy warning U.S. citizens in Bangkok of the potential foreign terrorist threat in the country and encouraging them to avoid tourist areas. Other countries, including the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada and Israel, issued similar warnings. Thai police have [....]

Obama awards aircraft contract to firm in Brazil
by GARY CONNOR,
The Palestine Herald
January 23, 2012
The Obama Administration awarded a $355 million U.S. Air Force light attack aircraft contract in December, 2011, to Embraer, an aircraft company in Brazil.
Hawker Beechcraft Corporation, an American owned and American based aircraft company, who has already built more than 14,000 aircraft for the U. S. military, had worked with the Air Force for two years and invested more than $100 million to meet Air Force requirements for the light attack aircraft only to be informed they had been excluded from the bidding competition.  Actually, there was no bidding process at all. Scientists Discover Gassy Liberal Pseudo-Science

by John Ransom,
Townhall.com
January 21, 2012
The science portal New Scientist reported yesterday that the much-publicized risks involved in the natural gas recovery method of “fracking” have been exaggerated according to British geologists.
“Frack away, there's no reason not to,” writes New Scientist. “Two of the main objections to ‘fracking’”- [earthquakes and well-water contamination] - “have been blown out of proportion, according to British geologists… ‘We think the risk is pretty low,’ said Mike Stephenson, head of energy science at the British Geological Survey at a press briefing in London on Tuesday.”  Fracking involves boring into shale deposits with water, chemicals and particulates in order to open seams to allow the escape of natural gas, oil and other fossil gases for recovery as fuel. Huge new reserves of energy have been found in the US over the last decade that can only be recovered by fracking. These reserves have [....]

Gas drilling contaminates drinking water

by Sujata Grupta,

May 10, 2011
Drilling for shale gas may pose a safety hazard if there are water wells nearby. But the controversial use of "fracking" does not appear to be a safety risk as regards water contamination.  Over the past decade, the use of fracking – a mining technique involving pumping water and chemicals underground to rupture rocks and bring trapped natural gas to the surface – has skyrocketed in Pennsylvania.  The state sits atop the Marcellus shale, a deposit estimated to harbour over 14 trillion cubic metres of natural gas. Residents have long expressed concerns that fracking could contaminate drinking water.  Now a study has shown that the real safety concern is the proximity of water wells to gas wells, and that fracking does not appear to increase the risk of water contamination.  Rob Jackson of Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, and colleagues analysed water from 68 drinking wells in upstate New York, where fracking is banned, and Pennsylvania. They found that wells located within 1 kilometre of an active shale-gas drilling site contained 17 times as much methane on average as those further away.  The team was also able to confirm that the methane found in the drinking water came from deep within the Earth [....]

Justice Department Coordinates Suits with ACORN's Project Vote

January 19, 2012
Steve Kest, Executive Director of ACORN, talks to a reporter after a news conference October 29, 2008 in Washington DC.(Photo by Mark Wilson/Getty Images) Remember ACORN, the far-left activist community organizing group that filed for bankruptcy a couple of years ago? That followed revelations that some members were advising pimps and prostitutes on tax evasion, not to mention operating houses of prostitution and smuggling underage girls into the country to work in the sex industry. The Democratic-dominated Congress voted in 2009 to ban ACORN from receiving federal funds. After ACORN's bankruptcy filing, many of its local chapters remained intact by the simple expedient of reorganizing under different names. It's the same tactic used by fly-by-night rug merchants and disreputable used car dealers to stay one step ahead of the law.   Readers will also recall that ACORN activists have long been involved in voter registration fraud, either directly or through its Project Vote affiliate. At least 70 ACORN/Project Vote employees have been convicted of voter registration fraud in a dozen states since 2006. According to a 2009 House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform report, approximately a third of the 1.2 million new registrations turned in by the two groups in 2008 were fraudulent.  Despite all this, [....]

Buffett Blames Congress for Romney's 15% Rate

by Andrew Frye and Andrea Ludtke

January 23, 2012
Warren Buffett, the billionaire calling for more taxes on the rich, said Mitt Romney's U.S. tax rate of about 15 percent reflects poor laws rather than failings by the candidate for the Republican presidential nomination.   "It's the wrong policy to have," Buffett told Bloomberg Television's Betty Liu in an interview today. "He's not going to pay more than the law requires, and I don't fault him for that in the least. But I do fault a law that allows him and me earning enormous sums to pay overall federal taxes at a rate that's about half what the average person in my office pays."  Buffett, chairman and chief executive officer of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. Dear Lon,
OK. Let’s get this straight: The White House didn’t seek to keep this secret, even though they had discussions about keeping it secret. Yet it remained secret until the revelations in Kantor’s book despite the White House not trying to keep it secret. The secrecy happened just by coincidence?

Best Super Bowl Player Bargains

by Brian Reed,
thepostgame.com
January 25, 2012

As you count down the hours until the Super Bowl, imagine all of the superstar teams full of expensive free agent acquisitions. Maybe the Philadelphia Eagles or Washington Redskins come to mind. Often, these teams don't emerge as successful as everyone anticipated.  Here's why.  Great football teams are built around three types of players: 1) superstars who carry the team, 2) young signees who bring quality far beyond their paycheck size and 3) journeymen players who fill small but important roles.  The best teams don't rely solely on spending money to acquire players. Instead, they find gems in late rounds of the draft, bargain free agents or even undrafted free agents.  The two teams in this year's Super Bowl, the New York Giants and the New England Patriots each have their share of bargain players.  With the average NFL salary up to $1.9 million and the highest paid players reaching around $20 million, these are six players who really bring maximum value to their team:

How Much It Costs To Become President
by Tim Parker,

January 25, 2012
During presidential election seasons, we start hearing a lot of big money figures thrown around but have you ever asked yourself, how much money do you have to spend to become president? If you're planning to make a run for the White House, you'll want to start saving your money now. (For related reading, see Talk Is Cheap: Campaign Promises And The Economy.)

President Obama
Let's start with the current president. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, the total amount of money spent by the Obama campaign in 2008 came in at $730 million, far outspending Republican nominee John McCain who spent a mere $333 million. Obama became the first major party candidate to reject public campaign funding, which allowed him to not fall under some campaign finance laws that may have limited his fundraising efforts. How much more was spent in 2008, than previous years? The Obama Campaign raised nearly twice as much money as the Bush campaign in 2004, which, at the time, was the most expensive campaign in history.  This year, once the Obama [....]

WWII destroyer returns to SC home after repairs
by BRUCE SMITH,
Associated Press
January 25, 2012
MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (AP) — With the blare of air horns, cheers and a champagne toast, "The Ship That Would Not Die" returned Wednesday to its home at a maritime museum on Charleston Harbor on the South Carolina coast.  Just after sunrise, the World War II destroyer USS Laffey was towed slowly down the Cooper River to the Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum. It was moved more than two years ago to a dry dock so its hull could be repaired at a cost of about $9 million.  A group of about 50 people, including more than a dozen former crew members, gathered on the flight deck of another World War II vessel, the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown, to welcome the Laffey home.  "This means a lot of years of fighting to get her saved again," said Sonny Walker of Abingdon, Md., who [....]

"Clown Prince" Weekly Blather; October 29th

A Patriotic Response To The "Clown Prince;" 10/29/2011
barackingham Palace,
District of Corruption,
October 29, 2011
This week, a new economic report confirmed what most Americans already believe to be true: over the past three decades, the middle class has lost ground while the wealthiest few have become even wealthier. In fact, the average income for the top one percent of Americans has risen almost seven times faster than the income of the average middle class family. And this has happened during a period where the cost of everything from health care to college has skyrocketed.  Now, in this country, we don’t begrudge anyone wealth or success – we encourage it. We celebrate it. But America is better off when everyone has had the chance to get ahead – not just those at the top of the income scale. The more Americans who prosper, the more America prospers.  Rebuilding an economy where everyone has the chance to succeed will take time. Our economic problems were decades in the making, and they won’t be solved overnight. But there are steps we can take right now to put people back to work and restore some of the security that middle-class Americans have lost over the last few decades.
[What I'm not telling you:  As usual, most of today's blather is complete fabrication; complete--and bald faced--lies!!  Based on that premise, let's attempt to rewrite today's weekly blather with a modicum of truth.  Here are some facts as researched by some of America's best 'think-tanks:'
During the first decade of the twenty-first century, median income (50% of earners above; 50% below) dropped by 7%;
The wealthiest 20% of households saw their income drop by 16%!;
The remaining wage earners experienced a 25% drop over the same period;
Incomes are expected to rise only 5% in the next decade.
http://www.epi.org/publication/the_state_of_working_americas_wealth_2011/ }
Additionally--under my leadership, or the distinct lack thereof--the collapsed housing bubble cost $6 TRILLION in lost value, with another $2 TRILLION in losses expected in the coming year.  These realized and projected losses equal 53.6% of the current national debt.  How does this affect you, the taxpayer; you, the homeowner?!?  Not only do you, but your children, your grandchildren, your great-grandchildren are responsible for repaying this unconcionable level of national endebtedness;  these same folks are expected to suffer the affects of the monetary losses experienced by the American homeowner.
So in total, JUST the national debt and the housing losses equal $22.9 TRILLION!!
How is that figure even fathomable?!?
How is that figure even repayable?!?
Upon close review of the past two-and-a-half years, you'll find that not only do I "lead from the rear;"  I "lead from the golf course!"  And yet, I demand to be given credit for the demise of the planet's worst miscreants: owe-bama Osama bin Laden, Muammar Gaddafi as well as the ouster of our buddy in Egypt: Hosni Mubarak!  Said review will also reveal my penchant for being the personification of Albert Einstein's definition of insanity.  That definition being: doing the same thing over-and-over, expecting a different result!!  To that end, my regime continued the destined-to-fail TARP bailout authored by that evil President George W. Bush, 43;  then George Soros insisted on the $787 BILLION PORKulus bill to fund the requisite pay-offs for the regime's supporters and contributors as well as the unions' hierarchies.  Then we had that debt-ceiling increase kerfuffle that never should have been approved!  Now we have PORKulus 2.0 disguised as the American Jobs Act.
Not only have these programs not stimulated the jobs market, there will be no stimulation in the near future!  Everything the regime has done, was done in direct defiance of the logic of economics.  The only jobs that can be created by government--at any level--are government jobs!  To acquire funding for owe-bamacRATic policies; the government must either take the same amount of money from the American public or borrow the funds in the name said American public!!  If job creation is the true objective, the most effective path to accomplishment is tax reduction AND regulations-and-rules set-asides or nullifications!]
Right now, Congress can pass a set of common-sense jobs proposals that independent economists tell us will boost the economy right away. Proposals that will put more teachers, veterans, construction workers and first responders back on the job. Proposals that will cut taxes for virtually every middle class family and small business in America. These are the same kinds of proposals that both Democrats and Republicans have supported in the past. And they should stop playing politics and act on them now.  These jobs proposals are also paid for by asking folks who are making more than a million dollars a year to contribute a little more in taxes. These are the same folks who have seen their incomes go up so much, and I believe this is a contribution they’re willing to make. One survey found that nearly 7 in 10 millionaires are willing to step up and pay a little more in order to help the economy.  Unfortunately, Republicans in Congress aren’t paying attention. They’re not getting the message. Over and over, they have refused to even debate the same kind of jobs proposals that Republicans have supported in the past – proposals that today are supported, not just by Democrats, but by Independents and Republicans all across America. And yet, somehow, they found time this week to debate things like whether or not we should mint coins to celebrate the Baseball Hall of Fame. Meanwhile, they’re only scheduled to work three more weeks between now and the end of the year.
[What I'm not telling you:  By January, 2010--the start of my second year of rule--the owe-bamacRATic controlled Senate had held up 290 bills previously approved by the House of Representatives, which was also owe-bamacRATically controlled.  Since the "Tea Party" movement's victory in November, 2010, the Senate has continually held up legislation beneficial to the American economy; not necessarily beneficial to the regime's direction for the United States!
Remember the Rep Louie Gohmert "American Jobs Act of 2011?!?"  Rep Gohmert's proposal is diametrically opposite to my "Clown Prince ZERO-bama, the Narcissist"  'American Jobs Act.'
To date, have there been any negotiations to reconcile the two bills?!?
Absolutely not!!
Why not?!?
I've instructed little 'pinky' reid to not allow them; it's "my way or the highway!!"
If the reader cares to check the referenced URLs above, they'll find that to qualify as one of "the 1%ers" one must have an AGI (adjusted gross income) of $343,927!! The millions and billions of dollars that I elude to as I continue to vilify the the nation's most prosperous citizens is nothing more than my usual 'smoke-screen.'  As is my promotion; the citizenry gets 'a bad taste in their mouths' when they hear 'millions; billions' as it relates to wealth they don't have!   This is an example of 'class-warfare' that actually works!!  Nothing breeds anxiety and anger more than money, or the lack thereof!!]
The truth is, we can no longer wait for Congress to do its job. The middle-class families who’ve been struggling for years are tired of waiting. They need help now. So where Congress won’t act, I will.  This week, we announced a new policy that will help families whose home values have fallen refinance their mortgages and save thousands of dollars. We’re making it easier for veterans to get jobs putting their skills to work in hospitals and community health centers. We reformed the student loan process so more young people can get out of debt faster. And we’re going to keep announcing more changes like these on a regular basis.  These steps will make a difference. But they won’t take the place of the bold action we need from Congress to get this economy moving again. That’s why I need all of you to make your voices heard. Tell Congress to stop playing politics and start taking action on jobs. If we want to rebuild an economy where every American has the chance to get ahead, we need every American to get involved. That’s how real change has always happened, and that’s how it’ll happen today.
[What I'm not telling you:  I know it's tough, but try to bear with me as we reveal the truth--at least part of the truth--behind my policies and the legislative kerfuffles in the Congress.  Revealing that truth about me telling little 'pinky' reid to stall on the republicRAT-passed legislation, was a bit premeature so far as this blather opportunity goes.  Notice how I usually vilify 'the Congress' in my blusterful blatherings?!?  To my advantage, the average American will normally focus on the House of Representatives, not the entire congress.  The Senate is doing my bidding by little 'pinky' reid's stall tactics.
Much to my chagrin the Founding Fathers 'had-it-right' when they debated the merits, then approved the draft of the United States Constitution.  That the document was ratified by the required number of states, buttresses the basic logic contained therein.  The 'checks-and-balances' contained in the document makes my actions very difficult if not unconstitutional!!  The requirement that all financial, monetary legislation originate in the House of Representatives renders my Executive Orders unconstitutional on their face!
Take my Executive Order on student loans as an example:  I've managed to convince most of those with student loans--those educated in American colleges and universities--that my actions will save them untold amounts of money.  In actuality, the average student will save between $4.75 and $7.50 per month!!  Those with huge debt load (above $100k), will save a whooping $28.50 per month.  This is the relatively insignificant amount all those "occupy...." miscreants are demonstrating for!  I wasn't in favor of these demonstrations when George Soros started paying them to show up, nor when the current version of ACORN (with names like New York Communities for Change; New England United for Justice; et al) began aiding them.  The demonstrators are every bit the hypocrite the owe-bama Regime is:  the majority of demonstrators go home or to hotels during the cold, inclement over-night hours!!
Most of my "Executive Order" actions are either another duplication-of-effort, competing with current programs in place or they are a rehash of already-failed plans like the mortgage refinancing plan that very few Americans took advantage of!!   To correct the current housing kerfuffle and to prevent future kerfuffles; eliminate both Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae.  The federal government should not be in the student-loan or the mortgage businesses!!  When I took over the student-loan programs, how many small businesses; how many jobs, were destroyed by my actions?!?]

The all-important ZERO-bama 'jobs bill' is so necessary that the "Clown Prince" cannot carjole even the most liberal, most socio-fascist in his party to officially introduce it in the House of Representatives, where all funding bills--by law--must originate.  It would seem that most good legislation originates in Texas!!  Representative Louie Gohmert (r, Tx-1) has waited since the "Clown Prince ZERO-bama, The Narcissist's" joint blather at Congress (September 8th), for the bill to be actually introduced-Nuttin'!!!!  After waving his 115 page bill around at a Rose Garden photo-op, the "Clown Prince" begrudgingly released a hard-copy to select members of Congress.
SS FUBO Tea Party t-shirt

After sifting through all the bullshit contained in the ZERO-bama plan, Rep Gohmert submitted his own bill on September 14th.  Rep Gohmert's version isn't 115 pages; Rep Gohmert's version isn't 75 pages; Rep Gohmert's version isn't 50 pages; Rep Gohmert's version isn't 25 pages; Rep Gohmert's version is but 2--count 'em: TWO--pages!!  Essentially, the Gohmert bill cuts the federal corporate income tax to Zero, Zip, Bumpkus, Nada (see URL below)!!

As the taxpayer considers the various points of each bill, one must note that--among many other pay-offs--the ZERO-bama version provides fifteen-thousand-million-dollars to--the renamed--ACORN!!  Again note:  the Gohmert bill cuts the tax on corporate domestic income to zero!  This should cause a flood of companies repatriotating their manufacturing bases back on-shore!!
As usual, do your own investigations; they should yield the same result as mine:  "Clown Prince ZERO-bama, The Narcissist" is an amateur in a 'cut-throat' world!!
Til Nex'Time....

This'n'That;October 20th

Have Ya Ever Been on Social Security? I now am on it..... having started it several months ago at the "grand ol' age" of 62. There's a well hidden secret about it. My cash benefit is just under $1k/month. Last month I get this form to fill out. They wanna know-by the month, how much I've been earning at my regular job. That's when I find out that the Social Security Administration restricts my non-SS earnings to less than $14k/yr. I've been paying into the system since I was 15 years old, when I started picking potatoes and hand-setting type at a newspaper.....THAT'S 47 YEARS !!! IS THAT STUPID, OR WHAT??? With the Democrats in power and they-the party that never has found a tax they couldn't increase or a "give-away" program they couldn't fund/start-they should want me to work as much as I can!!!! The more I work, the more tax money they can piss away!!! My increased labor means increased payments to both the IRS and SSA!!! WHADDA BUNCHA IDIOTS!!!!! Wanna Know More About ACORN?? Originally, their philosophy was to promote their cause[s] on a national or global level. They've since changed their focus to the local. The change has proven to be ingenious!! The political culture of cities tends to be further to the left than the nation as a whole, thus less resistant to ACORN's views. City and county legislators as well as local and regional reporters tend to be less sophiisticated than their national counterparts, hence slower to grasp ACORN'S level of radicialism. The local business communities are generally disorganized, the membership focused on world and national affairs rather than the trivial details of local, regional politics. With this local view, ACORN has managed to have laws enacted by local governments that the federal government would only laugh at and "shoo them away." ACORN's strategy seems to be that if they can get enough idiotic laws enacted in enough communities, they essentially will have a "national policy." Mitch Klein, a top ACORN organizer working with the Baltimore chapter, perfected it's in-your-face aggressiveness. He had underlings: ***Pile garbage in front of City Hall to protest the lack of services in poor neighborhoods. ***Bring huge inflated rubber sharks to disrupt a bankers' dinner. ***Stage a profanity-laced protest infront of Mayor Martin O'Malley's home. "They unloaded a busload of people shouting some pretty ugly things and scared the daylights out of my wife and kids" the angry Mayor complained. "I thought it was a pretty cruddy thing to do." ACORN is unapologetic about its tactics. "We're up in their face," an enthusiastic representative said. [Despite-or perhaps because of-the intimidation, ACORN still gets $50,000 a year from the City of Baltimore to provide housing counseling to the poor.] This belligerence increased both membership and donations at the Baltimore chapter. These increases have been instrumental in ACORN's clout at city council meetings. ACORN has successfully changed Baltimore's City Charter-redefining city council districts in ways the activists believe will make it easier to gain more control over the council. Much the same thing has evolved in the City of Sacramento, Ca., and the California state government. This chapter now has a $300,000 annual budget and has become a force in California state politics. ACORN recently pushed through legislation that makes tenent evictions more difficult. The facts are out there......... I could go on and on with references of ACORN's "heavy handed" tactics........... but what's the use?? I doubt that anyone will be able to break through "the fluff" Recent ACORN Abuses It seems that ACORN has registed the ENTIRE DALLAS COWBOYS active roster to vote......not once, but TWICE!!! Once in Nevada Once in Missouri Idn'nat special?!?!?! It seems that ACORN registered so many questionable voters in Ohio that it flooded the system!! Ohio's Secretary of State sued to get out of verifying each of 200,000 questionable voter registrations. One court gave her a date to have it done, she appealed. The next court told her she didn't have to do it!! I guess we'll be thanking O-bomb-a for the eventual fall of this, the longest lasting democracy [actually a representative republic] in history!!! What do O-bomb-a and Osama have in common?? ***They both have friends who bombed The Pentagon !!! Oh......Before I Forget Again.... For those who aren't in the Rochester, N.Y., or Salt Lake City, Ut., radio markets you probably won't know Bob Lonsberry. I listen to practically every broadcast. In Rochester at least, Bob is a celebrated radio talk show host with WHAM [1180AM] radio, where he does three hours a day [11AM-2PM, eastern]. In Salt Lake City, he broadcasts on KNRS [570AM] radio 5AM-9AM, mountain time. He also writes a daily column for his website which usually concern local [both radio markets] or national interests/concerns. At least in Rochester, he does a daily podcast [called the "Bobcast"] which deals with almost anything. Anyone who likes to listen to an intelligent, insightful individual, ya gotta check Bob out!!! www.wham1180.com www.570knrs.com www.lonsberry.com ...And Another Personality.... The Rochester radio and print market is home to several professional, semi-pro and amateur sports teams as well as hotly contested college and high school rivalries. The guy that keeps all these teams sorted out, the public informed is Bob Matthews. Bob has a pretty full workday; He's a sports reporter for the D&C, writes a sports blog for the D&C, hosts a two-hour sports call-in show on WHAM [1180AM], 6PM-8PM. He also is a contributing sports columnist for the Gannett News Service. http://php.democratandchrolicle.com/blog/sportsx/ www.wham1180.com matthews@democratandchronicle.com I'd like to quote a portion of Bob's Sunday column: Brown Set The Stage For Davis To Win Heisman Davis in turn blazed a trail for future black recipients of the prized trophy. Jim Brown helped Syracuse University recruit Ernie Davis. I wonder if Brown helped Davis become the first African-American to win the Heisman Trophy. Davis is getting some long overdue recognition with the release of The Express, the movie about the life and times of two-time All-American who died at age 23 of leukemia before he could play in the NFL. Brown, who played nine stellar seasons with the Cleveland Browns and arguably was the all-time greatest NFL player, played three seasons at Syracuse. He didn't win the Heisman Trophy and didn't receive nearly as many votes as he should have in his 1956 senior year, possibly because he's black. Brown rushed for 986 yards in only eight regular season games, scored 14 touchdowns, kicked 22 extra points and intercepted 3 passes that season. He led the nation in Yards-per-carry [6.2] and had seven 100-yard rushing games. With a bowl bid on the line in the season finale, he scored an NCAA-record 43 points in a 61-7 victory over Colgate. But Brown finished a distant fifth in Heisman Trophy balloting. He was first in the East [there were five regions] and fifth in the South, but received only 118 first-place votes for winner Paul Hornung of Notre Dame. SU was 7-2 that season, including a 28-27 loss to TCU in the Cotton Bowl. Notre Dame was 2-8 and outscored 289-130. Hornung threw 3 TD passes and 13 interceptions, averaged 4.5 yards per carry and kicked 14 extra points. Some observers said he won the Heisman for career achievement. Hornung had a Pro Football Hall of Fame career with the Green Bay Packers, but he was no Jim Brown. No one was-including the three other players who outpolled him for the Heisman Trophy in 1956 [ Johnny Majors, Tommy McDonald, and Jerry Tubbs]. Davis played for Syracuse from 1959 through 1961. By then Brown had established himself as the best player in the NFL. Davis was the star running back on SU's national championship team in 1959 but didn't finish in the top 10 for the Heisman Trophy. He also failed t o make the top 10 in 1960. His senior year wasn't the best of his collegiate career, but he won the Heisman Trophy in a close vote over Ohio State fullback Bob Ferguson, who had the luxury of sharing the running load with lightnine-and-thunder halfbacks Paul Warfield and Matt Snell. SU coach Ben Schwartzwalder said the award to Davis was "a tribute to his three years really, not just one." If Horning diserved the Heisman in 1956, Davis more than deserved it in 1961. I wonder if Brown's instant success in the NFL had any influence at all on Heisman voters who passed on him in 1956 to give Davis his just due in 1961. Brown and Davis played for the same school and Davis left his footbal idol in the dust in yards per carry. Brown averaged 5.2 yards and rushed for 666 yards for 5-3 SU in 1955 and averaged 6.2 yards and rushed for 986 yards for 7-1 SU in 1956 [not including the Cotton Bowl loss to TCU]. Davis' numbers [regular season]: 1959---98 carries for 686 yards; 7.0 yards per carry; 8 TDs. Syracuse was 10-0 in the regular season and Davis was Cotton Bowl MVP [a 23-14 win over Texas]. 1960---112 carries for 877 yards; 7.8 yards per carry; 8 TDs; SU was 7-2. 1961---150 carries for 823 yards; 5.5 yards per carry; 12 TDs; SU was 7-3 in the regular season and Davis was Liberty Bowl MVP [a 15-14 win over Miami]. Brown blazed the trail for Davis at SU and Davis blazed the trail for tuture black Heisman Trophy winners. Black players have won the Heisman Trophy 27 of the last 47 years. Ernie Davis always will be the first. Imagine the time involved just in doing the research for this portion of his Sunday column!!! Nearly all his columns are this "stastic-loaded!!!" Check 'em out if ya have the chance!!! Til nex'time......

This'n'That; October 17th

William "Bill" Ayers: Bill Ayers was born in 1944 to a childhood of wealth and prvilege. His father, Thomas, was the Chairman and CEO of Commonwealth Edison. The family lived in Glen Ellyn, Il., an upscale suburb of Chicago. Ayers attended Lake Forest Academy, a private boarding and day school for grades 9-12. The school is located on the North Shore in Lake Forest, Il. After his stint at the University of Michigan, Ayers became involved in the New Left and the SDS. This became his indoctrination to radical political activity. Ayers was forced "underground" when a bomb accidently detonated, destroying a Greenwich Village and killing three other members of the Weather Underground. While "underground" he traveled extensively. During these travels, he along with other members of the Weather Underground, bombed the United States Capitol building, The Pentagon and the Harry S. Truman Building [at the time, home of the State Department]. He and longtime lover, Bernardine Dohrn surrendered in 1981, when most charges were dropped due to prosectorial misconduct during the long search for the fugitives. Arguably his most famous [or infamous, depending on your point of view]: "I don't regret setting bombs; I feel we didn't do enough." I can't believe this man teaches!!! With his radical past, it must be an ultra-liberal institution that employs him!! Yup, I was right...... He currently teaches at the University of Illinois, Chicago. His educational accomplishments: 1968-B.A., University of Michigan [American Studies] 1984-M.Ed., Bank Street College [Early Childhood Education] 1987-M.Ed., Teachers College, Columbia University [Early Childhood Education] 1987-Ed.D., Columbia University [Curriculum & Instruction] How did he go so far....?? Particularly in education and employment??? Throughout his adult life, William Ayers has continually poked "a finger in the eye" of the very country that provided the opportunities he so freely took advantage of!!! National Welfare Rights Organization [NWRO]: ACORN's roots are in the National Welfare Rights Organization [NWRO]. NWRO's early leader, George Wiley, believed he could use poor, unwed mothers to foment a revolution. NWRO agitated for unlimited welfare benefits for those mothers and persuaded many urban politicians to loosen welfare eligibility requirements. Mr Wiley's aim was to flood the welfare system with so many clients that it would burst. The bursting he hoped, would create a crisis which would force a radical restructuring of America's unjust capitalist economy. This loosening more than doubled the welfare roles and strapped already tight local budgets. Between 1965 and 1974 the number of single-parent households on welfare soared from 4.3 to 10.8 MILLION people. [In the early 1070s in NYC alone, one person was on welfare for each two workers in the city's private economy.] The primary affects of this explosion of the welfare rolls only served to create a culture of family disintegration and dependency in inner-city neighborhoods with rampant illegitimacy, crime, school failure, drug abuse, non-employment and poverty among a fast growing underclass. When the federal government didn't come to the rescue with massive aid, the NWRO's strategy caused a backlash against "welfare mothers" and politicians in free-spending cities like New York. This welfare strategy eventually collapsed and Mr Wiley moved on. He formed an equally radical new community organization in Little Rock, Arkansas. The "a" in ACORN originally stood for "Arkansas." It was later changed to Association to give the organization a national scope. This was about the same time that congressional Republicans made the regressive decision to fund local community groups with billions in federal funds and state aid. The federal incorrectly reasoned that it was better to fund nonprofits than create giant federal bureaucracies to run burgeoning antipoverty programs. Little did the Republicans realize that these funds would finance a nationwide network of organizations that have mobilized urban residents against the party's candidates and their agenda. Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now [ACORN] ACORN's bedrock assumption remains the ultra-Left's familiar anti-capitalist redistributionism. A portion of ACORN's "People's Platform" **"We are the majority, forged from all the minorites." **"We will continue our fight....until we have shared the wealth, until we have won our freedom....We have nothing to show for the work of our hand, then tax of our labor." [What a load of CRAP: These statements not only falsify the relative comfort of the poor in Ameria but are a classic example of chutzpah....what with ACORN's roots in a movement that undermined the very work ethic of the poor. They also make the self-aggrandizing claim that ACORN "stands virtually alone it it's dedication to organizing the poor and powerless."] ACORN organizes it's subjects to push for more and more government control over the economy, having not learned the oft-repeated lessons of the free-market reality that made American cities unequaled eingines of job creation, opportunity which moved millions out of poverty and misery. Til nex'time.......
