This'n'That;February 19th[Duffy;RenSq;Cop;B'caster;Fluff]

"Fluff" Meets "Duff' " Mayor Robert J. Duffy will be among a group of mayors invited to meet with Nerobama, biden and five Cabinet members Friday to discuss the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). Mayor Duffy is Chairman of the Criminal and Social Justice Committee of the U.S. Conference of Mayors. The President has set a central goal that this plan will create or save 3 to 4 million jobs over the next two years. Rochester is expected to benefit from approximately $10 million in road and highway construction funding. “I am very excited to meet the President,” said Mayor Duffy. “ While the recovery plan includes infrastructure funding, I will continue to advocate for more direct investments to cities, especially in areas that provide jobs for families and focus on children.” The mayors will also meet with the following Cabinet members: Attorney General Eric Holder; Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun L.S. Donovan; Transportation Secretary Raymond L. LaHood; Energy Secretary Steven Chu; and Education Secretary Arne Duncan. The mayors will then meet and discuss the implementation of ARRA with key Administration officials from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Depts. of Energy and Justice. [Mayor Duffy has been chosen with about 40 others to meet with Nerobama and "the handlers;" the only elected official in New York to be so selected. Mister Duffy has a history of being able to grasp problems at their core; I'd like to see him question "the handlers" as to the various problems that affect his constituents: [A] The consequences of the ARRA wealth transfer as it relates to generational payback; [B] The "unfunded mandates" from state government; [C] Escalating personal and property tax obligations; [D] Fencing project along the US' southern border is, and has been "shovel-ready," why no additional funding in ARRA? ] Ren-Square Moving Along [or "Brooks Legacy" Approved] The federal approval that allows Renaissance Square to move forward was granted Wednesday. The Federal Transit Administration determined that the project's three components will not have a significant impact on the environment, which allows planners to move forward with property acquisition and eventually demolition. The project footprint, on the northwest corner of East Main Street and North Clinton Avenue, includes 20 properties held by private owners that must be acquired by eminent domain. "We control the site now," said Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks, adding that a sign indicating "the future home of Renaissance Square" can finally be raised. Renaissance Square is a $230 million development including a campus for Monroe Community College, a bus station and a performing arts center. The performing arts center is not fully funded and if funds are not raised, it will not be built. Demolition is expected to begin by late October, and the project has a three-year construction schedule. [ With several serviceable buildings in the downtown area, there's no logical reason why the plans for Renaissance Square even exist. Other than Maggie Brooks needs a legacy to leave behind when she decides to leave elective government. Unless the powers-that-be find a "sugar-daddy" to fund the performing arts center, I'm bettin' that part NEVER GETS BUILT. Expecting the "nickle-and-dime" donations to fund that portion will push construction out a cuppla decades.... Nobody but the high-brows want the thing!!] Amerks Promotion Benefits DiPonzio The Rochester Americans announced all net proceeds from its "Star Toss" promotion will be donated to Rochester Police Officer Anthony DiPonzio's recovery. The promotion began Wednesday and will include the remaining 13 home games. Stars can be purchased at any Amerks home game for $1 or in groups of six for $5. Officer DiPonzio was shot after responding to a report on January 31. He is recovering at Unity's Brain Rehabilitation Unit at Saint Mary's. Reintroduce This Conservative Broadcasting Measure [The Broadcaster Freedom Act was introduced in the House on July 13, 2007, during the 110th [2007-2008] Congress by Rep Mike Pence {R, Indiana-6th}; simultaneously in the Senate by Norm Coleman {R-MN}. The bill was assigned the following numbers- House: HR-2905; Senate: S-1748. It's presumed that the measure "died" at the end of the 110th Congress.] Congress must take action to ensure that The Fairness Doctrine, an archaic remnant of a bygone era of American radio does not return. It was in this spirit that I introduced the Broadcaster Freedom Act in July of this year. The Broadcaster Freedom Act will prohibit the Federal Communications Commission from prescribing rules, regulations, or policies that will reinstate the requirement that broadcasters present opposing viewpoints in controversial issues of public importance. The Broadcaster Freedom Act will prevent the FCC or any future President from reinstating the Fairness Doctrine. Thanks to the strong support of Minority Leader John Boehner, Minority Whip Roy Blunt and radio station owner and broadcaster Rep. Greg Walden (R-OR), the Broadcaster Freedom Act is now cosponsored by all of the 202 Republican members of the House. This unanimous Republican support for any measure is rare and demonstrates the GOP's strong opposition to broadcast censorship. Only one Democrat, Rep. John Yarmuth (D-Ky.) has cosponsored the bill but my hope is that many Democrats will follow. More than 100 Democrats supported our one-year moratorium of the Fairness Doctrine this summer. Mortgage Bailout "Fluff" [Nerobama at his fluffy best, easily moving from teleprompter-left to teleprompter-right. In his handlers' fluffy math, this new bailout is supposedly going to help nine-million homeowners with $75Billion in new funds. Without even considering the amount of the individual mortgages, do the math! Each of those 9Million homeowners will receive a whoppin' $8,333.34!! When one considers the amounts owed on the mortgages, this MIGHT fund four payments! Where does the homeowner go from here-after the money runs out?!?!?! The whole idea of bailing out the irresponsible homeowner flies in the face of "fair play." The homeowner who played by the rules; bought houses they could afford, made an adequate down payment, continued on with their mortgage payments, kept up with their taxes, etc., are now being penalized!! They get no "bonus" for doing the right thing. It' likely the delinquent homeowner who couldn't keep up with his house payments last time, won't be able to keep up with this new mortgage. Do they just continue to be bailed out with our money??] In a 22-minute speech in Mesa, Nerobama detailed how the housing industry woes bedevil everyday Americans. Even homeowners who can weather the mortgage meltdown suffer because their home's value is diminished as neighbors are uprooted and their street is lined with empty houses and neglected yards. "You can't afford to leave, you can't afford to stay. So you cut back on luxuries," Nerobama told the more than 1,000 people crowded into Dobson High School's gymnasium. "Then you cut back on necessities. You spend down your savings to keep up with your payments. Then you open the retirement fund. Then you use the credit cards. And when you've gone through everything you have, and done everything you can, you have no choice but to default on your loan." Unlike other tough times, families can't just sell their house and move into a more-affordable one. Phoenix area home prices have fallen 43 percent since 2006 and many homeowners now own houses valued far below their mortgages, Nerobama said. The Nerobama plan announced Tuesday would: • Give up to 5 million of Americans access to low-cost mortgage refinancing. • Get rid of a restriction that stops mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac from refinancing mortgages they already own or guarantee. • Create a $75 billion "Homeowner Stability Initiative" to keep sinking homeowners in their houses and protect neighborhoods. [ It seems like years, but, believe it or not, we're only ONE MONTH into the Nerobama "Era of Fluff"..... As sick of it as I am already...... IT'S GONNA BE A LONG 47 MORE MONTHS!!!] Hey gang.... NO "before-the-sun-goes-down" list today.....YeeeeHaaa!!! Til Nex'Time....
