What The National Pamphleteers Don't Report:
Who’s The Idiot Who Foisted Daylight Saving Time On Us?
March 11, 2011
by Chip Wood
Who’s the idiot who foisted daylight saving time on us? Oh, wait, I know. It was Congress. That shouldn’t come as a surprise. Most of the really dumb things this country has done over the past 50 or 100 years began with something the politicians and their do-gooder friends dreamed up.  It all began back in the dark days of the Great Depression, I’m told. The idea was that moving clocks forward in the spring and back in the fall would give farmers one more hour of daylight each day. All of the money they’d save not having to burn kerosene or use electricity for that extra hour would save so much money [....]

Senate Majority Leader Fitzgerald Statement on Senate Action
MADISON, WI (Press Release) … After nearly a month of debate on the budget repair bill, nearly three weeks of childish stunts and delay tactics from the Democrats, the longest public hearing in state history and the longest Assembly debate in state history, the Senate met tonight to pass the non-fiscal items in the Budget Repair Bill. Sen. Fitzgerald released the following statement:
"Before the election, the Democrats promised "adult leadership" in Madison. Then a month and a half into session, the Senate Democrats fled the state instead of doing their job.
"In doing so, they have tarnished the very institution of the Wisconsin state Senate. This is unacceptable.
"This afternoon, following a week and a half of line-by-line negotiation, Sen. Miller sent me a letter that offered three options: 1) keep collective bargaining as is with no changes, 2) take our counter-offer, which would keep collective bargaining as is with no changes, 3) or stop talking altogether.
"With that letter, I realized that we're dealing with someone who is stalling indefinitely, and doesn't have a plan or an intention to return. His idea of compromise is "give me everything I want," and the only negotiating he's doing is through the media.
"Enough is enough." "The people of Wisconsin elected [....]

Kiddie tax laws could cost you at tax time
The definition of ‘investment income’ is broader than taxpayers may realize
LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) — Bill’s daughter won a trip to New York and an entire wardrobe. The prize was worth $18,000, according to the 1099 issued to his 22- year-old daughter. Quite a windfall! Bill asked TaxMama, “Do we really have to pay taxes on this prize at my highest tax rate?”
TaxMama didn’t think so. After all, kiddie tax rates only cover investment income. But then she discovered a tax surprise.
Kiddie tax laws were designed to catch rich families who transfer their stocks and bonds into their children’s names, hoping to reduce the tax bite on the dividends, interest and capital gains. The law requires the taxes to be paid on the income at the parents’ highest marginal tax rate, even when the income is reported on the child’s tax return.  For 2010, the first $1,900 of income is not taxed at the parents’ rate. The first $950 is tax-free. The second $950 is taxed at the child’s rate, which will depend on how much earned income the child has. Wages and business (self-employment) income are [....]

Poll: 60% of Tea Party, Nearly Half of GOP Support Impeaching Obama

March 11, 2011
by Ben Johnson
A new poll reported in an unlikely source shows a broad majority of Tea Party members and roughly half of all Republicans support impeaching Barack Obama. More than 1,000 registered voters were asked, “Would you support or oppose the impeachment of President Obama?” Among those who describe themselves as Tea Party members, a full 60 percent support impeachment. An additional 16 percent are unsure.  Among Republicans, 48 percent support impeachment and 22 percent are unsure.
A Democratic Poll on a Left-Wing Website
Public Policy Polling, which is described as “an American Democratic Party-affiliated polling firm based in Raleigh,” conducted the survey from March 4-6. Its results appeared on the left-wing website the Daily Kos.  Overall, 26 percent of Americans would like to see the president impeached, and 14 percent are undecided.  Surprisingly, 14 percent of Democrats and 13 percent of liberals favor impeaching their own president. An Associated Press-Knowledge Networks poll last October found 47 percent of Democrats “said Obama should be challenged for the 2012 nomination,” although no modern president who faced a primary challenge has been re-elected. Many Democrats on the ballot in 2012 fear an anti-Obama backlash will doom their chances, and doctrinaire left-wingers have questioned whether they would be better off with another president.  For some reason the mainstream media, which have been known to spin their own polls, have chosen to ignore this poll altogether.
Sampling Skews Left
The poll’s sample seems to give undue weight to those on the Left. PPP indicates 24 percent of its respondents come from union households. However, only 17 percent of voters in 2010 came from union households and only 21 percent in 2008. Similarly, self-described Democrats outnumber Republicans by [....]

Republicans Pledge New Legislation for Domestic Energy Production as Gas Prices Rise
March 10, 2011
FoxNews.com
House Speaker John Boehner joined with other Republicans to promise a string of "bite-sized" energy bills, which are expected to deal with drilling, building pipelines and facilitating the development of nuclear power.   "As gas prices go up, the cost of everyday life goes up," Boehner said Thursday, warning that the increase harms the very businesses the country is depending on for a robust economic recovery.   Republicans titled their new push for domestic energy production the "American energy initiative," and vowed to introduce legislation in the coming weeks.
Boehner said the proposals would be divided into "chunks," noting that the days of comprehensive legislation should be over -- an apparent dig at the health care overhaul.   The speaker suggested one bill could deal with expanding the use of natural gas; another could encourage oil and gas exploration while devoting royalties to "green energy development;" and another could [....]
