What the National Pamphleteers don't Report:
The Why: In Which I Defend Living In The South
by K. Chapman Gibbons,
Big Blue Dot Y'all
January 18, 2013
Yesterday on Rachel Maddow’s blog, there was a question to all “blue dots.” Why do you stay in red states and do you ever want to leave? The question struck right at the issue most on my mind since the reelection of the President. It seems that writers (particularly from the Northeast) publish article after article along the lines of “What is wrong with the South?” Or, “Go Ahead And Secede Already.” They have been popping up like Honey Boo Boo references. Most of them are almost gleeful at the thought of dumping the South. (Because this is what Lincoln wanted ?!?)
Each time I see these articles, I get a little more angry. It would be dishonest to say that this isn’t a longstanding peeve for me. Bill Maher is a perpetual offender. The Simpsons, the media (old & new) and even my beloved Jon Stewart all take shots at the South regularly.
Now, let me be crystal clear. I get angry at all the [....]

United Kingdom Moves Away from the European Project
by Andriano Bosoni,

British Prime Minister David Cameron will deliver a speech in London on Jan. 23, during which he will discuss the future of the United Kingdom's relationship with the European Union. Excerpts leaked to the media suggest that harsh EU criticism will figure prominently in the speech, a suggestion in keeping with Cameron's recent statements about the bloc. But more important, the excerpts signal an unprecedented policy departure: renegotiating the United Kingdom's role in the European Union. London has negotiated exemptions from some EU policies in the past, even gaining some concessions from Brussels in the process; this time, it is trying to become less integrated with the bloc altogether.
Cameron has pledged to hold a referendum after 2015 on the United Kingdom's role in Europe. He has also said he would reclaim powers London surrendered to the European Union. While they no doubt reflect similar anxieties across the Continent, such statements are anathema to the [....]

Obama Uses Children as Pawns in His Power Grab
by Diana West,

Not one of the 23 executive orders that President Obama signed -- flanked by schoolchildren whom none of us want to see murdered and before an audience that included relatives of murdered schoolchildren -- would have prevented the massacre at Sandy Hook.
Did the main idea of the sentence above come through -- that the president's latest orders would not have stopped the heavily armed monster who entered a Connecticut school last month and killed 20 children and six adults? Or was your brain overwhelmed by anxiety signals arising from the imagery of vulnerable youngsters?
The overwhelming imagery is no accident. It's emotional manipulation, and I've never seen a more lowdown exercise of it than the White House's "gun violence" event this week. What President Obama put the nation through was the propaganda equivalent of a slasher movie, a disgustingly crude attempt to jam our emotional buttons and frighten us into surrendering more of our rights to live free of centralized government surveillance and control.
Such pandering, of course, [....]

Gold And Silver Fly Out Of U.S. Mint
by Bob Livingston,
Personal Liberty Digest
January 18, 2013
More Americans are becoming wise to the debasement of the U.S. dollar and destruction of the economy by the ongoing quantitative easing to infinity money printing and massive deficit spending, as evidenced by the surge in the sale of physical gold and silver by the U.S. Mint in recent weeks. They are recognizing the system is in its death spiral.
As of Jan. 15, the U.S. Mint had sold 110,500 ounces. That put it on track to exceed the 127,000 ounces sold in January 2012 and exceed the highest monthly tally since 1999.

Groupon Kills Deals on Guns: Boycott Groupon
by "Bungalow Bill,"

January 23, 2013
The popular internet coupon service called Groupon is removing any gun deals they once promoted on their site. Michael Cargill is a gun store owner who teaches conceal and carry classes. He also used Groupon to market his small business.
In recent weeks, thanks to America's best gun salesman Barack Obama (note the sarcasm), Cargill's Groupon efforts have produced big results--so big he had to call Groupon to expand the offering. At first they had no problems [....]
