For those not familiar with New York State politics--a cesspool of corruption--rarely is there much positive hope'n'change in store for the general New York population. At least the kind of hope'n'change NOT promulgated by the Soros/Jarrett/owe-bama regime on the national level; the kind of hope'n'change that actually creates jobs, inspires confidence in the national/state business community, treats all people--those legally here, at least--equally, no matter their economic circumstance.
After years--and administrations--of governmental corruption at the state level, "Young Cuomo" and Rochester's Mayor Bob Duffy were elected in a landslide to lead the state into the next corrupt era. I didn't hold much hope for a Cuomo-redux adminstration; "Young Cuomo's" father Mario Cuomo wasn't too corrupt, but he did little to stem the growth.
In past eras I didn't pay too much attention to state level politics; they were always led by democRATs--the only change was an increased level of corruption. Just check out the list of those few who were actually caught, charged and some convicted of their corrupt practices: ex-Governor Elliot Spitzer (d)(Client #9!), ex-Comptroller Alan Hevesi (d)(illegal practices involving the state's pension funds; unethical advice to CalPers advisors[Cal public employees retirement system]; a state-funded chauffeur for Hevesi's wife at a cost of $82,000); ex-Governor Patterson (d)(fined for ethics violations); ex-Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno (r) (federal conviction on several counts of corruption); ex-Senate Majority Leader Pedro Espada, Jr., (d)(investigated and accused in several corruption cases); and on-and-on-and-on!!!
LtGov Bob Duffy has a long and successful record as a public servant: He started at the bottom and rose to eventually become the Chief of Police, Rochester, N.Y. He then was elected to two terms as Rochester's mayor. And now the Lt Governor!! Mr Duffy has long been held in high esteem by his 'employers,' his equals and his subordinates; although the related labor unions--not so much! If there was a singular ray of hope in the latest gubernatorial election it was said Duffy. Now we allegedly have this bill: Clean Up Albany Act of 2011; I say "allegedly" because we've heard rumblings about it; the politicians have trotted out to blather about it; we've seen nothing printed on official legislative forms!
Depending on how one reads the public reports on this legislation, it'll either be a warmed over version of the usually toothless ethics regulations; or the courts will be jammed with arraignments and trials!! Here are some of the topics covered:
- Greater Financial Disclosure: [....]
- Increased Access to Who is Appearing Before the State and Why: [....]
- Additional Disclosures for Registered Lobbyists: [....]
- Forfeiture of Pensions for Public Officials Convicted of a Felony: [....]
