Wounded Policeman Update
Rochester Police Officer Anthony DiPonzio spoke for the first time Wednesday morning, 11 days after he was shot in the back of his head. DiPonzio, who was shot by a .22-caliber rifle, underwent surgery at Rochester General Hospital.
He was upgraded from guarded to stable condition Wednesday. In a prepared statement, University of Rochester Medical Center neurosurgeon Dr. Paul Maurer said DiPonzio "continues to make significant progress in recovering from his serious wound," and his condition "is far ahead of where we expected him to be at this point."
Maurer, the neurosurgeon who operated on the 23-year-old officer following the shooting, previously said DiPonzio's recovery might take up to a year and that he faces an ongoing risk of brain infection. DiPonzio was taken off his ventilator and brain pressure monitor last week, signaling the end of the riskiest first days after a shooting.
"We anticipate he will be able to transfer from Rochester General Hospital to Unity Health System's Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit early next week," Maurer said in the Wednesday statement.
Is Limbaugh Irrelavant?
[If Mister Limbaugh and by association, his twenty-million weekly listeners, are irrelavant, why does he garner so much attention?? The exchange below was reported by the UPI-although their bias continues to shine through-as evidenced by the incorrect quotes from Mr Limbaugh. The cartoon above? Yup, that one. It is from Mr/Ms{?} Matson of the St Louis PostDispatch. It certainly attaches more than a little credence to the Limbaugh philosophy!! obama doesn't need to remind us of his arrogance, i.e., the "I won..." comment. He would bode well to remember that at any given "broadcast moment" Rush is reaching 10-12% of the nation's adult population.{I know-I did THE MATH!!} The comment that the media types keep harping on... the one they try to convince us Rush said... "I hope he fails"... that one?? I am a "ditto-head," so I listen everyday. THAT's NOT WHAT HE SAID!! Rush admantly wants obama's socialist policies to fail- not the man; not the president!!] obama told Republicans in Washington they "can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done." obama was meeting with congressional leaders to work on details of an economic stimulus package. Republicans say the proposal -- currently estimated at $825 billion -- is too big and should include bigger tax cuts to be effective.
During an exchange with Rep. Eric Cantor, R-Va., Obama reminded Republicans of the outcome of the November election.
"I won," he said.
At one point, the president told the GOP they should stop paying attention to right-wing radio personality Rush Limbaugh if they want bipartisanship, the New York Post reported.
"You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done," Obama said.
Limbaugh last week told listeners to his nationally syndicated radio show he doesn't want obama to succeed because that would mean success for liberalism. "I hope he fails," Limbaugh said.
In a response to the New York Post story, posted Saturday in The National Review Online, Limbaugh said obama is trying to "isolate elected Republicans from their voters and supporters by making the argument about me and not about his plan."
"If I can be made to serve as a distraction," Limbaugh wrote, "then there is that much less time debating the merits of this TRILLION-dollar debacle."
Til Nex'Time....
