The Best And The Worst!
The state I live in is the worst; the state(s) I aspire to live in are included in the top third! New York seems to have been 'in the cellar' throughout it's existance--at least in the modern era--since the fascists have had their usual strangle-hold on freedoms and liberties. I'd really like to move to the State of Tennessee, or--as a close second--Texas.
The most important driving force to us is the property tax rates in the county we live in and the rates in the counties we'd like to move to. And the 'bug-level;' see the "Young Miss Lovely" thoroughly detests bugs of any sort, even those beneficial!
I know she only had goodness in her heart, but I'm not sure my late mother-in-law did the "Young Miss Lovely" any favors! About ten or so, years ago, the "Young Miss Lovely" put her life on hold so 'Mom' could stay in the family homestead--an upper/lower, two-family in the City of Rochester (Monroe County), N.Y. Mother lived in the upper apartment, where she raised her family since 1962. We live in the lower apartment. Well, upon Mom's death--and much to the chigrin of some siblings--the "Young Miss Lovely" inherited the homestead. We are now waiting for the estate to clear probate while we do some capital improvements and tweekings to ready the property for sale.
All this--hopefully--melds into today's topic of New York's being the least-free state in the union, with the lowest level of personal liberties. As reported by George Mason University's Mercatus Center, New York State ranks fiftieth (50th) in freedom and personal liberties. As reported by The Tax Foundation, Monroe County, N.Y., (HERE!) has the nation's highest property tax rates (by percentage of property value)! Is it any wonder we want to leave?? We just don't want to be the ones that turn off the lights!!
