This'n'That; March Twenty-Second #1; Social Class

Why Do They Do What They Do?!?
Have ya ever spent much time watching the pedestrians in your neighborhood?  I have.  Just speaking of the teens and tweens, most of them walk in the street; most of them (the boys) have their "pants on the ground!"  The City of Rochester, N.Y., provides some of the best sidewalks in the state and yet lot'sa folks insist on walking in the street.  Not only walk in the street.... they defy the occasional motorist to hit/avoid them!
    I have a theory:
The children of this generation feel sorry for their negro peers and as such the white kids imitate the negro kids.
The negro kids seem to have an in-born sense that they're--by heredity--second-class citizens.  Where that comes from, I haven't a clue.  Maybe--during America's 'slavery era'--the negros' place in the social hierarchy was in the street, literally.  The southern plantation owners considered--as did the U.S. Constitution--the slaves to be property, as though they were horses, cattle, sheep, dogs, wagons, plows, cotton bales, et al.  To be put in the same social class as any other piece of property is to be religated to their environs; the street!  Hence, they still walk in the streets.
When I was growing up in the 1950s and early '60s, the negros' big complaint was they garnered no respect.  This feeling seems to permeate the culture into today.  Now, I ask you:  How much respect does the average citizen have for another who ignores everyone else's freedoms?!?  I can't sit on my front porch without being subjected to the incessant 'eardrum shattering' noise from passing cars that's reputed to be music!!  Today's children--walking in the street--defy anyone older to make eye contact.  I ignore the defiance and make said contact anyway.... and usually speak to those I think would be receptive to a greeting.  The response is usually--if not being completely ignored--a "yo;" what'ta'hell kinda answer is that?!?  It certainly increases my respect for the respondents as a class, NOT!!
'Nuffa my bitchin'!!
Til Nex'Time....
