The 10 Best Obama Zingers From Paul Ryan’s Snappy Convention Speech
by Benny Johnson,

 video link here.
Paul Ryan’s speech brought more than just cheers to the convention hall Wednesday night, it picked a fight. The VP candidate’s speech had RNC delegates at a fever pitch from the beginning. It brought a packed convention arena to its feet with over a dozen standing ovations. By many reports and reactions, Paul Ryan can count his keynote a resounding success. And while the speech was filled with conservative buzzwords, what really hat had the faithful cheering were the well timed one-liners about President Obama and his record.
Convention delegate and lifelong Republican Mark Mitchell told TheBlaze, “That speech is what we were waiting for!” Mitchell continued enthusiastically, “We want a candidate that can expose and fight our administration and their B.S. Ryan came out fighting, we like that!” Here are the loudest most well-received Ryan zingers according to the non-scientific Blaze method of sitting in the convention hall with an ancient decibel meter (our ears).
10.  “Their moment came and went. Fear and division are all they’ve got left. With all their attack ads, the president is just throwing away money— and he’s pretty experienced at that.”

Vietnam: After All Is Said and Done
This article first appeared in the November 29, 1966,
by Ernest van den Haag,
National Review Magazine
If you abhor suffering and premature dying you will wish to minimize both, as I do. As you are aware, sometimes we must accept the risk, even the certainty, of much pain and of many premature deaths, to prevent, or at least reduce the probability of more pain and of more casualties. Surgeons often must advise operations for such reasons; a patient would be irrational to consider only the pain and the danger of the impending operation and not the greater pain and the greater danger he may have to endure later without it. So would we be irrational were we to direct our thought and our compassion solely to the cruelty, the horror, the casualties and the dangers of the war in Vietnam without paying heed to the anguish, the grief, and the casualties we might invite if we retreat from Vietnam now. Whatever the answer, certainly the main, if not the only, question is: [....]

Killer 1950 Mercury

Not only is this a gorgeous 1950 Mercury coupe we call killer, but it’s owned by Killer Thompson from Columbus, MS. He got the car after builder Eddie Potestio, owner of Eddie’s Rods and Customs in West Pueblo, Colorado, and restored it as a tribute to his mom and dad. Without any experience and learning as he went, Eddie chopped the top, rounded the hood, built shrouds for the lake pipes, frenched the lights and fabbed-up fender skirts. It’s powered by a smallblock Chevy with three deuces. The interior is equally impressive with [....]

Union Money in Elections
From 'Morning Bell,'
heritage.org

September 3, 2012
This election year, millions of Americans will donate to the political candidates and initiatives of their choice at the local, state, and federal levels. But for unionized workers, union dues come out of their paychecks and go to political causes—and they aren't consulted on where that money will go. In July, The Wall Street Journal's Tom McGinty and Brody Mullins published an eye-opening report that "Organized labor spends about four times as much on politics and lobbying as generally thought."
They broke down the unions' political spending from 2005 to 2011: $1.1 billion "supporting federal candidates through their political-action committees, which are funded with voluntary contributions, and lobbying Washington, which is a cost borne by the unions' own coffers."
But that was only the beginning. Add to that [....]

Ten Of Barack Obama’s Worst Lies
by 'Coach,'

September 4, 2012

Attempting to select THE ten worst lies told by a pathological liar like Barack Obama is a difficult task. There are so many lies that it is hard to know where to start – a good case can be made for so many of his lies as top ten material. For this reason, there is no claim here to a TOP ten of his lies:ten of his most egregious ones.
10.  During his last State of the Union speech,Barack Obama claimed
“American oil production is the highest that it’s been in eight years.”
In fact, the Congressional Research Service reports that 96% of the increase comes from oil fields out of Obama’s control. By contrast, the production from federally-owned oil fields he does control has dropped by 275,000 barrels a day. It is worth noting that privately-owned fields have increased by 395,000 barrels a day.
9.  Obama has told the world there has never been a better friend of Israel in the White House.

Does Obama Not Even Know His Own Birth Date?
by 'Coach,'
exposeobama.com
September 4, 2012

Barack Obama has so many named birthdays he and his staff can’t keep them all straight. A new YouTube video is showing us just how comical Obama’s equivocation about being born and where it happened really is. The video’s title,“Obama Doesn’t Know When He Was Born”,may be more truth than confusion as a bewildered America still is waiting for answers to the man’s true nativity narrative.
The video opens with a shot of Obama saying,“I’ll be turning 50 in a week.” A narrator then points out the “Certificate of Live Birth”released by the White House in April,2011 points to a birthday date of three weeks later! “His birthday fluctuated erratically on his Facebook page by his getting four years younger” in his 2010 born-again celebration, says the narrator. But a MySpace page that has been completely scrubbed of all Obama birth date references once even said he was 52 when it should have read 48! “Why,if he claims to be so smart, doesn’t he even know his own birthday?” asks the video narrator.
A commenter says it best with this:“More of the same. When you tell lies, the more you tell, the more you have to tell. Pretty soon, you’ve forgotten who you told what.” This statement speaks volumes as the convoluted Obama birth story grows legs with each telling. [....]

President Obama Issues Major ‘Green Energy’ Executive Order
by Becket Adams,
theblaze.com
September 3, 2012

Between conservatives focusing all their attention on the successes/failures of the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., and the left having a meltdown over the supposed “racism” and unprecedented disrespect of Clint Eastwood’s “Empty Chair” routine, little attention has been given to an executive order issued last Thursday by President Barack Obama that targets industrial “efficiency” and carbon emissions.
“Today, we are taking another step to strengthen American manufacturing by boosting energy efficiency for businesses across the nation,”
said President Obama.
“This action will cut costs, increase efficiency, and help our businesses create strong, middle class jobs. We’ll continue to do everything we can to put more people back to work and build an economy that lasts,”
he added.
The order, which aims to increase the number of cogeneration plants in the U.S. by 50 percent by 2020 and slash carbon emissions by 150 million tons per year, is the administration’s latest effort to “deploy cleaner and more efficient energy production in the country by working around political resistance to climate change and ‘green’ energy legislation on Capitol Hill,” Reuters reports.
“The Federal Government has limited but [....]

Education Waiver Would Spell Entanglement for Alabama
by Lindsey Burke,
heritage.org
August 28, 2012
Alabama is considering requesting a waiver from the U.S. Department of Education to relieve the state of some of the burdensome requirements of No Child Left Behind (NCLB). But the waivers represent a troubling pact with Washington: To get relief from federal mandates, Alabama must agree to more federal intervention. It’s a bad deal.
Alabama is seeking a waiver in large part to avoid having to comply with the Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) requirement in NCLB (a federal mandate requiring 100 percent student proficiency in math and reading/language arts). Under NCLB, schools that fail to make AYP are subject to “cascading sanctions” ranging from implementing a school improvement plan to a complete school restructuring. Those sanctions are tough indeed, and illustrate the extent to which [....]

Obama’s Regulatory Agenda Goes Undercover by Diane Katz,
heritage.org
August 31, 2012

Throughout President Obama’s tenure, the number and cost of major regulations has approached record levels—exceeding $46 billion in new annual costs during his first three years. The impact has been economically crippling, of course, notwithstanding the administration’s boasts of regulatory benefits. Yet the White House seems rather shy of late about its hyperactive rulemaking, all of the president’s promises of transparency be damned.
Here it is almost September, and the administration has failed to publish its spring 2012 Regulatory Agenda as required by law. The compendium of planned regulatory actions is required each spring and fall under the Regulatory Flexibility Act as well as Executive Order 12,866, which originated with President Clinton and was reaffirmed by President Obama last year. With no word from the White House on its failure to comply, Sen. Rob Portman (R–OH) sent a letter of inquiry this week to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. “Concerns about bad press … are no excuse for keeping these plans under wraps,” Portman said. “With regulatory burdens already hindering job creation, the American people are entitled to know the full magnitude of new Obama Administration regulations coming down the pike.”
The fall 2011 agenda listed 2,576 newly proposed and final regulations in the pipeline, including [....]

A Nation of Sandra Flukes
The tragedy for America is that she’s all too typical.
by Mark Steyn
nationalreview.com
September 8, 2012    According to Georgetown Law student Sandra Fluke, invited to address the Democratic convention and the nation, America faces a stark choice this November. “During this campaign, we’ve heard about two profoundly different futures that could await women in this country — and how one of those futures looks like an offensive, obsolete relic of our past,” she cautioned. “That future could become real.” In one of those futures, women will be “shut out and silenced,” rape victims will be “victimized all over again,” pregnant women will “die preventable deaths in our emergency rooms,” and “access to birth control is controlled by people who will never use it.” If you’re wondering where all that is on your ballot form, just check the box marked “R.”
We know what this America would look like,” warned Miss Fluke sternly.
In a few short months, that’s the America that we could be. But that’s not the America that we should be. And it’s not who we are.”
Fortunately, the America that we could be that isn’t the America that we should be doesn’t have to be the America that we would be. The good news [....]

Are Americans Better Off Than They Were Four Years Ago?

by 'Political Calculations'
politicalcalculations.blogspot.com
September 8, 2012    Are Americans better off than they were four years ago?" The various responses that Democratic Party politicians offered to that question dominated the political news headlines this past Labor Day weekend, so we thought we'd take a stab at answering the question today.  If we go by the polls of the most important issues identified by Americans, we find job creation at the top of the list, so we'll use that as our measure in today's post. Here, we'll use the BLS' monthly survey of business establishments in the U.S. to count the number of non-farm payroll jobs in the U.S., which last peaked in January 2008 at the very beginning of the recession (the economy itself peaked in December 2007, which marks the official start of the recession.)
Our chart below then measures the amount of job loss that has occurred since that point in time as a percentage of the maximum number of 8,779,000 non-farm payroll jobs that were lost in the following period of time since, with the horizontal scale showing the number of months either preceding or following the number of payroll jobs in the U.S. hitting bottom: [....]

‘Nothing Improper Occurred’: University Spokesman Now Denies Flag Mistreated by Campaign at Obama Event
— But Experts Say Otherwise

 University of Iowa flag Obama

The University of Iowa is now denying a large American flag was mishandled ahead of an Obama campaign stop on campus, after previously apologizing and removing a photo of the flag laying on the grass.
“There was no violations of flag etiquette,” University of Iowa spokesman Tom Moore told TheBlaze.  The school had earlier apologized for the “show of disrespect” via a posting on their Facebook page.  When asked if placing the flag on the ground was standard procedure, Moore replied,
“Yes, there was a protective plastic sheet under the flag and a frame so despite the appearances of the photo, the flag was not touching the ground.”
But that still could be an issue. According to U.S. flag code, the national colors should never touch ”anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.” When asked about this violation, Moore insisted that “this is the protocol this crew follows all the time.”  Moore did note that the crew setting up the flags belonged not to the university but to the Obama campaign. “The campaign handles all the arrangements,” he said.
“Nothing happened,”
he insisted.
“Nothing occurred that was improper.”
But a flag etiquette expert thinks otherwise.  Al Ulmer is the owner of [....]

Marketplace Op-Ed Series:
I Chose to Rely on Myself, Not Become a Statistic

This column is part of our ongoing series of op-eds this election season from small business owners working with The Marketplace by TheBlaze. We often hear politicians talk about what small business owners want, and if elected, what public officials could do to help these entrepreneurs. But we haven’t heard enough from small business owners themselves. This series will feature small business owners discussing their business, ‘how they built that,’ and what it has been like trying to sustain and grow their business over the last 4 years.
My name is Lynsi O’Dell and I was stereotyped to fail.
In 1997 my husband and I became teenage parents. Based on statistics, our marriage would end in divorce and I would end up depending on the “System” to survive. This is not an op-ed to confirm our failure, but one to confirm our success, built on true American values; hard work, dedication and resilience.
In 2007, my husband suffered a brain hemorrhage at the age of 29 that kept him from working to provide an income for our family (as a Journeyman Electrician) for months. I operated a state-licensed daycare, but after he became dependent on my care, I could not continue. I found a job working as a server in a Bistro to make ends meet. I was five months pregnant with our fifth child. I started making my own [....]

An alternative to Democrats' moral bankruptcy

by Star Parker,
townhall.com
September 8, 2012
Maybe Democrats have some slick salesmen, like Bill Clinton and our current president, who can sell you swampland and have you convinced that you've bought choice beachfront property.  But the omission of any mention of God and recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital from the Democratic Party platform, which were in it in 2008, and then the almost-failed attempt to add them after the fact, showed the clear truth about the 2012 Democratic Party.
It took three boisterous floor votes to add these principles to the platform. Listening to the ayes and nays on the third vote, it is questionable that they actually got the two-thirds that were needed.  The omission of these key principles from the Democratic platform was the party equivalent of what journalist Michael Kinsley calls a political gaffe -- when a politician inadvertently says what he really believes.
    Democratic Party operatives panicked [....]
