The Sunday 'Report;' 09/09/2012 [Part 3]

What The National Pamphleteers Don't Report:
When Figures Lie: Chevy Volt Puts the Government in Government Motors
by John Ransom,
townhall.com
September 1, 2012    If there was any doubt from skeptics about the complicity of the Obama administration in creating and directing the “new” General Motors –a.k.a Government Motors- the latest ballyhoo regarding sales figures and the Chevy Volt should convince even the doubters.
GM: Aug. Volt sales best yet says the Detroit News.
GM Expects Volt Sales to Set Monthly Record says the normally sane Wall Street Journal.
Chevy Volt broke monthly sales record in August reports the Associated Press.
But like a lot of claims coming from Obama or one his corporate surrogates, the Volt sales numbers surely aren’t signs of success, but rather just the opposite. And if the doublespeak doesn’t point to government involvement in the development, sale and ultimate failure of the Volt, it certainly betrays a government mentality that believes that perception matters more than results. And the difference between Obama’s perception and the actual results in our economy is the chasm where all of our jobs have gone.  Because General Motors has sold only half the number of Volts that they said they would this year, and the company is idling the Volt production line to retool it for a car that’s actually selling: the Chevy Impala. Investors aren’t fooled, [....]

Facebook: ‘Fox Canceled All My’ Wednesday Night Appearances

by Billy Hallowell,
theblaze.com
August 30, 2012

Is something amiss between former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and Fox News? On Wednesday, the 2008 vice-presidential nominee took to her Facebook page, where she told fans that the media outlet canceled all of her network appearances last night. While cancellations are anything but rare in the television industry — especially considering the fluid nature of news — this particular case is quite odd.
First and foremost, Wisconsin congressman and vice-presidential candidate Paul Ryan delivered one of the most anticipated speeches at the Republican National Convention last night. Knowing that this was unfolding, it’s curious that [....]

The Voice Of Tyranny
by Mike Reid,
Personal Liberty Digest
September 4, 2012
The reporting on a violent incident at the Occupy protests last year reveals the linguistic lengths to which newspapers can go to hide responsibility. A Reuters story in National Post said it best:
Scott Olsen, 24, a former U.S. Marine who served two tours of duty in Iraq, was struck in the head by a tear gas canister fired on Tuesday by police trying to prevent protesters from reclaiming a public square.
Olsen was standing about 30 feet from the police barricades at Occupy Oakland when the cops launched tear gas and fired “bean-bag” rounds into the crowd. The hit to Olsen’s forehead knocked him down on the concrete and fractured his skull.
Passive-Voice Violence
This is pretty high-action stuff. A simple way to say it would be: “On Tuesday, police struggling with protesters hit two-tour U.S. Marine vet Scott Olsen in the head with a tear-gas canister.” Regardless of whether the police action was legal or justified, such an opening would at least shine the light on who did what to whom. But instead Reuters chose to use the passive voice, a way of writing that emphasizes the thing acted on rather than the thing or person acting. Olsen “was struck in the head” (he was struck, you see; nobody struck him) “by a tear gas canister” (darned thing), which was [....]

Church Sign Violates County Rule

September 4, 2012

Officials told the Church of the Good Shepherd in Vienna, Va., its sign didn't comply with Fairfax County code. The Church of the Good Shepherd in Vienna, Va., is being corralled by Fairfax County because of its sign. The church’s LED sign changed more than twice during a 24-hour period, a violation of county code.

One of the offending messages was an invitation for citizens to sit in air-conditioning after a storm knocked out power to many homes.
“Welcome, come on in and beat the heat,”
the sign read. The next message read,

Mrs. Obama’s 2nd-Term Agenda: ‘Impact Nature of Food in Grocery Stores’
by Elizabeth Harrington,
CNSnews.com
September 4, 2012

(CNSNews.com) – Asked by Parade magazine, "What do you hope to accomplish in your second term?” First Lady Michelle Obama said she wants to "impact the nature of food in grocery stores" with the aim of cutting sugar, fat and salt.
“With 'Lets Move!,' our goal is to end the problem of childhood obesity in a generation,” Mrs. Obama said. “And while we’ve seen some very profound cultural shifts, we still have communities that don’t have access to affordable and healthy foods. We still need to find a way to impact the nature of food in grocery stores, in terms of sugar, fat, and salt.” Mrs. Obama also discussed [....]

Hank Williams Jr. Calls Obama ‘a Muslim… Who Hates’ Cowboys, Cowgirls, Fishing, Farming & Who ‘Loves Gays’ by Billy Hallowell,
theblaze.com
September 4, 2012

Hank Williams Jr. isn’t one to hold back on his views about President Barack Obama. In October 2011, he found himself in hot water after likening the leader of the free world to Adolf Hitler. But, despite the fallout, he hasn’t been dissuaded from sharing his social and political views so candidly.
Earlier this month, he called Obama an anti-American Muslim “who hates farming, hates the military, hates the U.S.” And on Sunday, he continued with even more controversial commentary about the president during a performance at Texas’ Stockyards Music Festival.
“We’ve got a Muslim for a President who hates cowboys, hates cowgirls, hates fishing, hates farming, loves gays, and we hate him!,”
the 63-year-old singer proclaimed to cheering and applause, using [....]

$16,000,000,000,000
[That's TRILLIONS, boys 'n' girls!]

Yesterday, the U.S. national debt passed $16 trillion. On President Barack Obama's watch, the debt has increased by 50 percent, as campaign promise after campaign promise has drowned in a sea of federal spending. When he was running for President, Obama condemned George W. Bush for adding $4 trillion to the national debt over eight years, calling it "irresponsible" and "unpatriotic." Now—in less than four years—Obama's Administration has already added almost $6 trillion to the debt. That means he is on track to triple Bush's debt increase over eight years. It is important to understand the magnitude of this debt increase and what it means for the country. Several terms are often used to describe the debt, but they are not interchangeable. Here is a quick guide to the U.S. debt.
National debt or "gross debt," which just passed $16 trillion: This includes what we think of as federal debt plus intergovernmental debt—money the U.S. government has loaned itself from one part of the budget to another. An example of intergovernmental debt is [....]

Obama’s Tax-Increase Bait and Switch
They aren’t just for “millionaires and billionaires.”
by Dr Thomas Sowell
nationalreview.com
September 5, 2012    We have heard many times from President Barack Obama how he plans to raise taxes on “millionaires and billionaires,” but not on the middle class. Apparently, if you don’t happen to be a millionaire or billionaire, you don’t have to worry. But the numbers say otherwise — and say so big time. The actual tax-increase plans being proposed by Obama do not start with people who have an income of a million dollars a year. They start with people who have incomes of $250,000 and up. That is more than most people make, but it is far short of a million dollars, and miles away from a billion dollars. How many of the people who stand to get hit with Obama’s higher-tax-rate plan are in fact either millionaires or billionaires?  According to the Internal Revenue Service, [....]

Obama’s Failed Auto Bailout
The Democrats will pretend it was a success.
by Michelle Malkin,
nationalreview.com
September 5, 2012Charlotte, N.C. — Cue Fanfare for the Common Man and rev up the Government Motors engines. Wednesday is Great American Auto Bailout Day at the Democratic National Convention. Party propagandists have prepared a prime-time-ready film touting the “rescue’s” benefits for American workers. UAW president Bob King will sing the savior-in-chief’s praises. But like all of the economic success stories manufactured by the White House, the $85 billion government handout is a big fat farce.
“I said I believe in American workers, I believe in this American industry, and now the American auto industry has come roaring back,”
Obama bragged on the campaign trail. Here’s the inconvenient story they won’t tell you:
GM is once again flirting with bankruptcy despite massive government purchases propping up its sales figures. GM stock is rock-bottom. Losses continue to be revised in the wrong direction. According to the Detroit News, “the Treasury Department says in a new report the government expects to lose more than $25 billion on the $85 billion auto bailout. That’s 15 percent higher than its previous forecast.”
The claims that GM paid back its taxpayer-funded loans “in full” — a story peddled in campaign ads narrated by Hollywood actor Tom Hanks — were debunked by the Treasury Department’s TARP watchdog this summer. GM still owes [....]

Ten Immigration Agents Challenge New Non-Deportation Policy
Staff Report,
heritage.org
September 5, 2012

Just days ago, ten Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers filed a lawsuit against Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano and ICE director John Morton – as detailed in Heritage's latest Issue Brief. The suit seeks to invalidate the Obama Administration’s recently implemented “deferred action” initiative, which defers for at least two years the removal of an estimated 1.76 million illegal alien minors and young adults who meet certain eligibility requirements. The Administration has defended this initiative as an exercise of “prosecutorial discretion.” Imagine the uproar if a President were to announce that he was exercising “discretion” by directing Internal Revenue Service agents and federal prosecutors not to investigate or prosecute those who fail to pay capital gains taxes.
President Barack Obama tried and failed on multiple occasions to persuade Congress to pass the DREAM Act (Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act). Just last year, he told a group of Hispanic activists that he lacks the constitutional authority to implement the DREAM Act by executive fiat: “The idea of doing things on my own is very tempting, I promise you, not just on immigration reform. But that’s not how our system works. That’s not how our democracy functions.”

President Obama is now attempting to [....]

The Obama Index:
The Newest Index to Measure Our Despair

by John Ransom,
townhall.com
September 8, 2012

To give you an idea how bad the jobs report released on Friday is, consider this fact: The employment situation in the country is so bad that economists can’t accurately measure it with the existing tools they use to measure jobs. In other words, we have entered a period in our country not contemplated by economists. They simply don’t have the tools to measure what’s actually occurring in the jobs market. Modern economists never imagined a scenario in which a country with as much wealth, power and innovation as United States could stretch out a jobs recession as long as the country has under Obama.
Economists please meet Barack Hussein Obama, record-setter. More debt, more spending, more regulation than ever before- and fewer jobs. We have a record amount of money in the system doing a record amount of nothing right now. And still the government policy wonks keep thinking that by injecting more money into a system already over-burdened by its money supply we will eventually get different results. Only Obama could preside over an economy with so much money that has produced so little return as our economy has since January 2009. Never in the annals of human history have so many dollars done so little for so many.
Yet the Obamunists keep calling for more money and more regulations. The result is [....]

Obama Supporters: What Are You Smoking?

by Sam Rolley,
Personal Liberty Digest
September 6, 2012

Are you better off than you were four years ago?
This, pundits say, is the question that will make or break the second-term ambitions of President Barack Obama. Chances are, however, if you happen to be of the “hope” and “change” crowd that in 2008 got President Obama the keys to the White House, the answer is a resounding “No!”.  If you are a libertarian-minded, Constitutional-loving American, this dispatch will be of little value to you. You already understand that within the confines of the plutocratic two-party political system there is no hope for achieving smaller, more liberty-oriented American governance in the upcoming Presidential election. You have already likely decided to stand by, hoping for some politically miraculous event that puts a worthy candidate before you. You’ve probably already resigned yourself to writing in the name of a candidate with little or no chance of winning, marking a third-party section of the ballot or simply not voting.
This correspondence is aimed at anyone who openly declares support for Obama. If the hopey, changey warm fuzzies have yet to wear off, here are a few things to consider about how Obama has fooled his base:  He thinks that his supporters are all either high or suffer the effects of short-term memory loss.
Obama has gone to great lengths to try to make voters believe that he wants to rethink how America deals with drugs. The Nation’s “War on Drugs” is ridiculously flawed and functions only as a profit maker for the prison-industrial complex and a profit protector for the Big Pharma drug cartel. For the casual marijuana user, Obama offered this [....]

What They Told Us: Reviewing Last Week’s Key Polls
by Scott Rasmussen,

September 8, 2012

31% Say U.S. Heading in Right Direction
Generic Congressional Ballot: Republicans 43%, Democrats 42%
Senate Balance of Power: Dems 48 GOP 45 Toss-Ups 7
What a way to end a convention. By most accounts, Democrats had a highly successful national convention in Charlotte, but Friday’s jobs report put a sour finish to a week President Obama’s party hoped would put him on the road to reelection. While the results seemed to surprise many economic forecasters, American workers saw it coming. The Rasmussen Employment Index fell nine points in August to 72.0, the lowest level of confidence since October 2011. Worker confidence in the labor market is now roughly the same as it was in the month following the Wall Street meltdown in the fall of 2008. This is the second straight month that the number reporting layoffs topped the number reporting hiring. Prior to that, there had been eight straight months with more hiring than layoffs reported. Concern about job security is rising. Twenty-nine percent (29%) of workers are worried [....]

An Open Letter To Democrats
by Noel Singer,
exposeobama.com
September 7, 2012

Dear Democrats,
President Obama has said that the Republicans’ ideas are from the previous century; many are. Conservatives fought for the end of Slavery, they fought for Civil Rights, and they fought for equality for all. Very few Americans would want to see those re-instated. But on some issues, yes,we would like to return to many of the ideals, mores, and beliefs of the past. I would like to see school children reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States of America. As American citizens, there is nothing wrong with voicing this pledge and teaching our children to understand and believe the words. There is Pride and Unity in them. What is wrong with standing and placing your hand or hat over your heart,or saluting when The Star Spangled Banner is played? What is wrong with singing along? What would be wrong with teaching our children ALL of the verses?
Women in the workplace are wonderful, and there have been women with jobs outside of the home for centuries;and they should get equal compensation for equal work. In most cases where the work is truly equal, they do;but many positions are relative, and even men don’t get equal pay for the same job. In most areas, there are many levels of pay dependent on factors such as time on the job, position, performance, attendance, and so on;so equal pay is difficult to judge. The only time that you will see true equality of pay for anyone is in an instance where the starting position pays minimum (either government or company decreed) wage.
I have worked for most of my adult life, but the best years were those when I could stay home and spend time with my daughter. Back in the day, when women stayed home and men worked outside of the home, families were more of a partnership. He took care of the money, and she took care of everything else. Even then, when women had outside jobs, there was a partnership. She took care of the inside, and he took care of the outside. He did repairs;she did laundry. He took care of the lawn;she took care of the house. And don’t forget the kids. They had chores fit for their ages. They cleaned and dusted, took out trash, cleaned their rooms, did dishes, helped with the lawn, and put their dirty clothes in the hamper and clean clothes in their dresser and closet. The family was a unit and functioned as one.
During the Great Depression, people didn’t want to go on welfare;most fought it [....]

The Obama Campaign’s Litany of Lies

by Chip Wood,
Personal Liberty Digest
September 7, 2012

Who's really telling the lies?
Man, talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Flacks for President Barack Obama are going absolutely ballistic at Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, denouncing them as liars and implying they are thieves, felons and even murderers. And then they have the nerve to accuse Romney and Ryan of running a dirty campaign! What’s even more disgusting is how their lapdogs in the mainstream media faithfully repeat every new accusation — while never coming within a country mile of holding Obama or Vice President Joe Biden to the same standard. It’s almost enough to make you think you’ve stumbled into a Will McAvoy rant on “The Newsroom.” I’ll get to all the fuss and fury about Ryan’s auto-plant remarks in a moment. But first let me ask you, what do you think has been Obama’s biggest lie since he took office nearly four years ago?
There sure has been a bunch to choose from. Some were ridiculous, or at least extremely unlikely, when he made them. I’ll put his promise to close the prison at Guantanamo in this category. Or to bring all the troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan. Some were just plain impossible, such as his pledge that if Congress gave him $863 billion in stimulus spending, he would slash the Nation’s unemployment rate to 5.6 percent. He got every penny he asked for, and some extra goodies besides. Yet unemployment remains stuck above 8 percent. (If you add in the underemployed and people who are no longer counted because they’ve quit looking for work, the actual number is well over 15 percent.)
Or how about his promise, just after his election, to end the political rancor in this country? Remember when he said he would “heal the divides that have held back our progress”? That promise sure got tossed out the window when it came time for his re-election campaign, didn’t it? This one is shaping up to be one of the nastiest in memory.
Or how about the President’s promise to cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term? Remember when he called George Bush’s deficits “obscene”? Barack Obama has run trillion-dollar-plus deficits every year since he took office, with no end in sight. He’s helped saddle our children, and our children’s children, with obligations they will never be able to repay. I could go on and on, from his tax-the-rich schemes to his class warfare rhetoric. But of all the promises that Obama has broken, I think the biggest was the one [....]
