When did...
1) ....Educated people become so unfamiliar with small business that they began to believe that a company will practically build itself as long as the government provides roads, street signs, and police?
2) ...Freedom change from something we should all be seeking to something we're supposed to be terrified to face without the government holding our hands?
3) ...We stop asking, "Can we afford this?" along with "Is this a good idea?" when it comes to government programs?

Bob Woodward Book: Debt Deal Collapse Led to 'Pure Fury' From President Obama

Bob Woodward Book Exposes Obama-Boehner Cracks
An explosive mix of dysfunction, miscommunication, and misunderstandings inside and outside the White House led to the collapse of a historic spending and debt deal that President Obama and House Speaker John Boehner were on the verge of reaching last summer, according to revelations in author Bob Woodward's latest book.
The book, "The Price of Politics," on sale Sept. 11, 2012, shows how close the president and the House speaker were to defying Washington odds and establishing a spending framework that included both new revenues and major changes to long-sacred entitlement programs. "The Price of Politics" examines the struggles between Obama and [....]

Evacuations and Contingency Planning

September 6, 2012

When the London 2012 Paralympic Games conclude the week of Sept. 9, the British navy reportedly will send a task force to the Eastern Mediterranean Sea, where it will participate in amphibious exercises off the coasts of Albania, Sardinia and Turkey before lingering off the coast of Cyprus. Ostensibly, the upcoming exercises are meant to prepare the navy for evacuating Syria of British citizens. Indeed, the ongoing civil war in Syria has prompted several Western countries to consider evacuation plans for their citizens who remain in the war-torn country. Some countries already have issued travel warnings against Syria, while others have advised their citizens to vacate the country. The United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, France and Germany have closed their embassies in Syria and a [....]

FACT CHECK: Obama and the phantom peace dividend
by Tom Raum, Clavin Woodward,
kob.com
September 6, 2012
(AP) WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama laid claim to a peace dividend that doesn’t exist when he told the nation he wants to use money saved by ending wars to build highways, schools and bridges. The wars were largely financed by borrowing, so there is no ready pile of cash to be diverted to anything else. The claim was one of several by Obama in his acceptance speech Thursday at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., and by Vice President Joe Biden in earlier remarks that did not match the facts. A look at some of their assertions:
OBAMA: "I’ll use the money we’re no longer spending on war to pay down our debt and put more people back to work _ rebuilding roads and bridges, schools and runways. After two wars that have cost us thousands of lives and over a trillion dollars, it’s time to do some nation-building right here at home."

ForgeryGate: Larry Klayman’s Historic Letter To DNC Legal Counsel
by Tom Ballantyne, Jr.,
westernjournalism.com
September 6, 2012

By now, many of you will probably have read Bob Unruh’s excellent article published at WND on September 3, 2012. The article begins by reporting that “A former U.S. Justice Department attorney who founded the government watchdog Judicial Watch and later Freedom Watch has warned a key Barack Obama attorney that Democratic Party or state elections officials certifying Obama’s eligibility for the 2012 election could be charged with election fraud.” As many of you know, the “key Barack Obama attorney,” Robert Bauer, of Perkins Coie, was the President’s chief legal counsel, working in the White House, until June 2, 2011, exactly five weeks after the President “released” (posted an alleged digital image thereof on-line) his Long Form Birth Certificate. He hasn’t “gone away,” however, as he continues to be the legal counsel to both the Obama Campaign and the DNC. The thrust of Larry Klayman’s letter to Attorney Bauer and the DNC is that as chief legal counsel, he cannot recommend that they place candidate Obama’s name on the Official Certificates of Nomination, or OCON’s, which they are [....]

Iceberg Ahead
The Hidden Cost of Public-Sector Retiree Health Benefits in New York
Staff Report,
empirecenter.org
Complete report in PDF format
September 05, 2012
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
New York taxpayers spend billions of dollars a year on health insurance coverage for retired state and local government employees, many of whom are too young to be eligible for Medicare. But the mounting “pay-as-you-go” bill for retiree healthcare is just the tip of a much larger iceberg. Thanks to a new government accounting standard, the true cost of this long-term entitlement is finally emerging from the depths of state and local finances. Based on a review of financial reports for the state and its largest local governments, school districts and public authorities, this report estimates that New York’s total unfunded liability for public-sector retiree health insurance comes to nearly $250 billion.
This figure represents a mammoth potential transfer of wealth from future taxpayers to current government employees and retirees—for a type of benefit that is not available to the vast majority of private-sector workers. The burden of retiree health care is clearly unsustainable and unaffordable. This report, designed as a primer on the issue for taxpayers and government officials, recommends a four-step plan for curbing retiree health care costs before it is too late.

Staff Report,

June 6, 2012

Sixty-eight years ago today, the people of the United States came together as one to make a stand against tyranny and to do what everyone knew needed to be done. It was called D-Day, the Invasion of Normandy. More than 5,000 ships and 13,000 aircraft supported over 100,000 American troops as they established a beachhead in Europe that eventually led to the end of World War II, with the forces of Nazism being driven from Europe and into the annals of evil.
Meanwhile, at home, almost the entire U.S. economy was leveraged toward generating whatever materials were necessary in order to support this urgent national priority. We call that generation the “Greatest Generation” because we honor them for stepping up to tasks and missions that they would not have chosen, but which they accepted as necessary. It’s thus disheartening to fast-forward to the present and find that somehow we can’t muster enough courage to balance the budget and fix our economy, which by any measure should be a much easier lift.
To win World War II, tremendous sacrifice of life and treasure was necessary; to fix our budget problems, it only requires cutting spending by one percent for five years. Seriously. That’s all it takes. Hasn’t your family probably cut [....]

My Abortion, ‘Tis of Thee
by Daniel Greenfield,
canadafreepress.com
September 6, 2012
If a convenient time machine were to deposit a Roman citizen, circa 140 or so, in Charlotte, he would have no trouble understanding what was going on. Our Roman might not understand a word of what was being said, but he would be able to take one look at the garish costumes, the hysterical air of self-congratulation worn by men and women who have accomplished absolutely nothing in life, and the clownish theatrics and realize exactly what was going on. “Oh no, not again,” would be the last thing he would think just before being lobotomized by a loose heel from Nancy Pelosi.
If bankrupting the country, destroying its economy and using its legal documents to roll joints wasn’t bad enough, the people responsible for all this thought it would be a fine idea to make their national convention about abortion and gay marriage. It was either that or any other random thing that will hit the right buttons on the sort of people who leave their buttons exposed to the air. The old Democratic convention looked like some music video director’s idea of Olympus. The new one [....]

New Obama slogan has long ties to Marxism, socialism
by Victor Morton,
washingtontimes.com
April 30, 2012

The Obama campaign apparently didn't look backwards into history when selecting its new campaign slogan, "Forward" — a word with a long and rich association with European Marxism. Many Communist and radical publications and entities throughout the 19th and 20th centuries had the name "Forward!" or its foreign cognates. Wikipedia has an entire section called "Forward (generic name of socialist publications)."
"The name Forward carries a special meaning in socialist political terminology. It has been frequently used as a name for socialist, communist and other left-wing newspapers and publications," the online encyclopedia explains. The slogan "Forward!" reflected the conviction of European Marxists and radicals that their movements reflected the march of history, which would move forward past capitalism and into socialism and communism. The Obama campaign released its [....]

Obama's Dreams
by Dr Thomas Sowell,
townhall.com
September 4, 2012
After reading Barack Obama's book "Dreams from My Father," it became painfully clear that he has not been searching for the truth, because he assumed from an early age that he had already found the truth -- and now it was just a question of filling in the details and deciding how to change things. Obama did not simply happen to encounter a lot of people on the far left fringe during his life. As he spells out in his book, he actively sought out such people. There is no hint of the slightest curiosity on his part about other visions of the world that might be weighed against the vision he had seized upon.
As Professor Richard Epstein of the University of Chicago Law School has pointed out, Obama made no effort to take part in the marketplace of ideas with other faculty members when he was teaching a law course there. What would be the point, if he already knew the truth and knew that they were wrong? This would be a remarkable position [....]

So You Think You Are Free?
by Bob Livingston,
Personal Liberty Digest
September 3, 2012

So you think you are free? After all, we have a Constitution with a Bill of Rights that “preserves” our freedoms.
So you think you’re free? Ask Brandon Raub what life in a free country is like. He was kidnapped from his home by the FBI, Secret Service and local police over Facebook posts in which he questioned 9/11 and accused the Bush family of committing crimes. He was held for a week with no charges and had a psychiatrist threaten to medicate and brainwash him. He’s not alone. John Whitehead of the Rutherford Institute, who gained Raub’s release, says calls coming into his organization reveal a pattern of abuse. In fact, veterans of [....]

Soros-Linked Liberal Super Group & Its Secret Funding of Democrats
by Warner Todd Huston,
canadafreepress.com
September 5, 2012
The Washington Free Beacon has undertaken a series of reports that are important for anyone interested in a follow-the-money investigation of one of the biggest influences on today’s Democrat Party. This is a hard-core group of far left extremists holding the Democrats purse strings and is called the Democracy Alliance. It is a George Soros-sponsored group and it ain’t your father’s Democrat Party, for sure.
The Free Beacon has a great primer page (Democracy Alliance Editor’s Note) on this group that helps you follow the money and the players. But to me, one of the most insidious aspects about this group — aside from its purely anti-American ideals — is that it serves as a “pass through” organization.
By that I mean that the organization serves as a central money pot to which many Democrat and extremist progressive groups funnel their campaign cash. They do this [....]

Study: Dem events more expensive, less populated
by Paul Bedard,
washingtonexaminer.com
September 5, 2012

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The non-partisan online event coordinator Eventbrite, a popular way to distribute event tickets during the Republican and Democratic conventions, has determined that Republican gatherings attract 50 percent more people and cost an average 70 percent less than Democratic events.
Reviewing 7,000 political meetings, fundraisers and meet-ups coast to coast so far this year, the firm tells Secrets that 71 percent of its business has been for GOP events, 29 percent for Democratic ones. Both the Obama and Romney campaign use the service. What's more, in key swing states, 77 percent of the GOP events have been free compared to 63 percent for the Democrats. And fundraisers in those states are more expensive for the Democrats, who charge an average $115.53, compared to $31.50 for the Republicans. Most users know Eventbrite for its orange [....]

Teachers union chief: No more recall efforts
by Ben Wolfgang,
washingtontimes.com
September 5, 2012

The resounding victory of Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, a Republican, in a recall election earlier this year has caused the head of the nation's largest labor union to change his game plan.
"The lesson I learned is that I don't think recalls are the way to go," said Dennis Van Roekel, president of the 3 million-member National Education Association, told The Washington Times on Wednesday.
"For many people, the way they view a recall, you have to be very careful" with using it against elected officials with whom you disagree.
Mr. Walker, who angered the NEA, other labor unions and Democrats with his effort to strip public workers of some of their collective bargaining rights, soundly defeated Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barret by about 7 percentage points, an even larger margin of victory than his first gubernatorial win in 2010.
Mr. Van Roekel argues that the people of Wisconsin [....]

The Deadly Drone Attached on your House
by Dr. Ileana Johnson Paugh,

September 5, 2012
Once a week I check with bated breath my conventional meter attached to the side of my house. I want to make sure no smart meter had been installed in my absence and without my permission. I have written to my utility company that I do not wish to have a smart meter installed, I mailed the letter return receipt requested to make sure that they cannot claim non-receipt. I called the utility office and again, voiced my desire to keep my conventional meter. I received a form letter, telling me that there are no plans yet, smart meters are safe, and there is no opt out, please check the website, etc. I posted a large sign by my conventional meter that they do not have my permission to install a smart meter. When the meter is read, the sign disappears or I find it in the grass. I gave up replacing it. I seem to fight the monopolistic goliath who is the only provider of power.
More and more people who had been harmed by electromagnetic pulses are taking action against their utility company across the nation. Texans Against Smart Meters are considering a class action lawsuit in reference to Fourth Amendment rights violation and health issues commenced or exacerbated by the installation of the Advance Metering System, better known as smart meters. Smart meter removal from one’s home is not enough. Within a five square mile area there is a collecting point of information from all meters and a transmitter receives information from all the collecting points within 125 miles of its location. The fast-fading ‘Messiahship’ of Barack Hussein Obama
by Judi McLeod,

September 6, 2012
When Obama threw Jeremiah Wright, his pastor of more than 20 years, under the bus, no one much cared. When Obama threw the politically active Chicago developer from Syria, Tony Rezko, who did a suspicious real estate deal with him under the bus, Rezko went off to the slammer with Obama’s blessings, and it all went down with very little notice. When Obama threw his own maternal Granny Madelyn Dunham under the bus (“she is a typical white person, who,uh, if she sees somebody on the street that she doesn’t know there’s a reaction that’s been bred into our experiences that don’t go away and that sometimes come out in the wrong way and that’s just the nature of race in our society. We have to break through it….”), he showed no regret and callously got away with it.
