This'n'That; September 13th[TheDay;Jeter;Wilson;Dividends;Local]

Either FOR America Or Against Her! Fluffy obama has managed to take the original meaning of September Eleventh from that of patriotism to just another service day. The American Patriot-you, me and those who want to return America to it's former greatness and prosperity-away from socialism and fascism-should be apalled at the level of decline obama and his communist, socialist, marxist and fascist cronies have the country to. Fluffy and that whole "community agitator" crowd ARE THE PROBLEM-not the solution!! Results Of September 9th's Television Offerings

Viewers are far more likely to remember that Derek Jeter tied Lou Gehrig on the Yankees' all-time hit list, rather than the lying drivel from a former community agitator. Jeter got three hits to tie Gehrig's record of 2,721, while Fluffy obama's minions whined and played "the race card" when confronted by the truth--that Fluffy was lying through his teeth!!!

Just One Told The Truth At Speech! Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) said Sunday he will not apologize for his "You lie!" outburst, risking a sanction from the Democrats who run the House. "I am not going to apologize again," Wilson said. "I have apologized to the president; I believe that is sufficient." Democratic leaders have said they will introduce a "resolution of disapproval" Monday or Tuesday unless Wilson formally apologizes on the House floor. Democratic lawmakers note that he was pressed to do so by Republican leaders. Many in the "Funding Class" feel that members of the "Ruling Class" were wrong to demand an apology for a truthful statement!! Wilson said Democrats are pushing the apology to distract from the real issues. "Democrats are playing politics," Wilson said. "I believe in the truth. That was not the truth." He also rejected an accusation by New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd that Wilson's outburst stemmed from racial intolerance. DemocRATs routinely "play the race card" when they're up against the truth!! Wilson was hailed as a hero at a taxpayer rally at the Capitol on Saturday, with speakers praising him, and many protesters waving signs reading "Joe Wilson for President." I own NONE OF THE MENTIONED STOCKS and I make no recommendations beyond performing due-diligence when considering purchases of ANY STOCK! Local Politics.... ....can be hilarious!! Here in the Rochester, NY, area the "players" are a hoot!! We have the primary season upon us, with the vote coming up on September 15th. The participants are bombarding the voters' mailboxes with these oversized cardboard ads trying [not very successfully] to convey their positions and voting records, all the while running their opponents into the ground!! The primaries in the city, county, various townships and villages in the surrounding area have no place for me; there are no republicRATs running-only democRATs and certainly no contestants that I would consider Patriots. Patriots in my mind, only have the country, state, county, township and/or village's best interests at heart-NOT personal gain, pandering to special interests or any other "ass-kissing" agenda-to include keeping their elected positions. These ads I mentioned..... one accused her opponent of "voting like a republicRAT." If it weren't so close to the date of the vote [09/15] I'd mail a reply to the return address [they rarely admit to their identity when they chastize another] to thank the author for pointing that one particular fact out to me!! While I'm not sure there's "a dime's worth of difference" between any individual, any party; voting like a republicRAT has to be better for the constituent than what we've had in the past!!! The local rag has reported that for the month of August-the candidates for city council have average spending $1,600 per day, each!! Lotsa money--had it not been donated to the party/the individual, could have gone on to do good things!!! Til Nex'Time....

FINALLY; Testicular Fortitude!!
[For the life of me, I can't understand why some feel compelled to apologize for the truth!! Rep Wilson seems to be the only legislator with the "testicular fortitude [balls!!]" to speak for the majority of the population who would utter the same phrase, but for the platform to do so!!!]
Fluffy obama was bloviating before the "dead-wood" of Congress when he started talking about healthcare, illegal immigrants and money when unexpectedly, Rep. Joe Wilson of South Carolina spoke up. "YOU LIE" the RepublicRAT congressman blurted out on the floor of the House immediately after the president said: "the reforms I’m proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally." It was Rep. Wilson who had been speaking on the "death panels" that are hidden in the healthcare reform proposal. He called it an "end-of-life counseling program, which has been correctly highlighted by former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as a program which could lead to seniors being encouraged to seek less care in order to protect the government´s bottom line." After the speech, senator John McCain, "The Great Apologizer," criticized the outburst as "totally disrespectful" and demanded that Rep. Wilson apologize to the president. Wilson issued a half-hearted apology shortly after the speech: “This evening I let my emotions get the best of me when listening to the president’s remarks regarding the coverage of illegal immigrants in the healthcare bill. While I disagree with the president’s statement, my comments were inappropriate and regrettable. I extend sincere apologies to the president for this lack of civility.”

More {Insert "L-word" Here}!!

A look at some of Fluffy's claims and how they square with the facts or the fuller story: FLUFFY: "I will not sign a plan that adds one dime to our deficits either now or in the future. Period." THE FACTS: Though there's no final plan yet, the White House and congressional Democrats already have shown they're ready to skirt the no-new-deficits pledge. House Democrats offered a bill that the Congressional Budget Office said would add $220 billion to the deficit over 10 years. But Democrats and Obama administration officials claimed the bill actually was deficit-neutral. They said they simply didn't have to count $245 billion of it — the cost of adjusting Medicare reimbursement rates so physicians don't face big annual pay cuts. Their reasoning was that they already had decided to exempt this "doc fix" from congressional rules that require new programs to be paid for. In other words, it doesn't have to be paid for because they decided it doesn't have to be paid for. The administration also said that since Obama already had included the doctor payment in his 10-year budget proposal, it didn't have to be counted again. That aside, the long-term prognosis for costs of the health care legislation has not been good. {CBO Director Douglas Elmendorf had this to say in July: "We do not see the sort of fundamental changes that would be necessary to reduce the trajectory of federal health spending by a significant amount."} ___ FLUFFY: "Nothing in this plan will require you or your employer to change the coverage or the doctor you have." THE FACTS: That's correct, as far as it goes. But neither can the plan guarantee that people can keep their current coverage. Employers sponsor coverage for most families, and they'd be free to change their health plans in ways that workers may not like, or drop insurance altogether. The Congressional Budget Office analyzed the health care bill written by House Democrats and said that by 2016 some 3 million people who now have employer-based care would lose it because their employers would decide to stop offering it. In the past Obama repeatedly said, "If you like your health care plan, you'll be able to keep your health care plan, period." Now he's stopping short of that unconditional guarantee by saying nothing in the plan "requires" any change. ___ FLUFFY: "The reforms I'm proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally." One congressman, South Carolina Republican Joe Wilson, shouted "You lie!" from his seat in the House chamber when Obama made this assertion. Wilson later apologized. THE FACTS: The facts back up Obama. The House version of the health care bill explicitly prohibits spending any federal money to help illegal immigrants get health care coverage. Illegal immigrants could buy private health insurance, as many do now, but wouldn't get tax subsidies to help them. Still, Republicans say there are not sufficient citizenship verification requirements to ensure illegal immigrants are excluded from benefits they are not due. ___ FLUFFY: "Don't pay attention to those scary stories about how your benefits will be cut. ... That will never happen on my watch. I will protect Medicare." THE FACTS: Obama and congressional Democrats want to pay for their health care plans in part by reducing Medicare payments to providers by more than $500 billion over 10 years. The cuts would largely hit hospitals and Medicare Advantage, the part of the Medicare program operated through private insurance companies. Although wasteful spending in Medicare is widely acknowledged, many experts believe some seniors almost certainly would see reduced benefits from the cuts. That's particularly true for the 25 percent of Medicare users covered through Medicare Advantage. Supporters contend that providers could absorb the cuts by improving how they operate and wouldn't have to reduce benefits or pass along costs. But there's certainly no guarantee they wouldn't. ___ FLUFFY: Requiring insurance companies to cover preventive care like mammograms and colonoscopies "makes sense, it saves money, and it saves lives." THE FACTS: Studies have shown that much preventive care — particularly tests like the ones Obama mentions — actually costs money instead of saving it. That's because detecting acute diseases like breast cancer in their early stages involves testing many people who would never end up developing the disease. The costs of a large number of tests, even if they're relatively cheap, will outweigh the costs of caring for the minority of people who would have ended up getting sick without the testing. {The Congressional Budget Office wrote in August: "The evidence suggests that for most preventive services, expanded utilization leads to higher, not lower, medical spending overall."} That doesn't mean preventive care doesn't make sense or save lives. It just doesn't save money. ___ FLUFFY: "If you lose your job or change your job, you will be able to get coverage. If you strike out on your own and start a small business, you will be able to get coverage." THE FACTS: It's not just a matter of being able to get coverage. Most people would have to get coverage under the law, if his plan is adopted. In his speech, Obama endorsed mandatory coverage for individuals, an approach he did not embrace as a candidate. He proposed during the campaign — as he does now — that larger businesses be required to offer insurance to workers or else pay into a fund. But he rejected the idea of requiring individuals to obtain insurance. He said people would get insurance without being forced to do so by the law, if coverage were made affordable. And he repeatedly criticized his Democratic primary rival, Hillary Rodham Clinton, for proposing to mandate coverage. "To force people to get health insurance, you've got to have a very harsh penalty," he said in a February 2008 debate. Now, he says, "individuals will be required to carry basic health insurance — just as most states require you to carry auto insurance." He proposes a hardship waiver, exempting from the requirement those who cannot afford coverage despite increased federal aid. ___ FLUFFY: "There are now more than 30 million American citizens who cannot get coverage." THE FACTS: Obama time and again has referred to the number of uninsured as 46 million, a figure based on year-old Census data. The new number is based on an analysis by the Kaiser Commission on Medicaid and the Uninsured, which concluded that about two-thirds of Americans without insurance are poor or near poor. "These individuals are less likely to be offered employer-sponsored coverage or to be able to afford to purchase their own coverage," the report said. By using the new figure, Obama avoids criticism that he is including individuals, particularly healthy young people, who choose not to obtain health insurance.

Unemployment: Confused?

Are you as confused as I am over the various rates of unemployment? I found this chart that attempts to explain the various levels of unemployment. In my personal opinion, the government should include ALL UNEMPLOYED PERSONS when talking about the economy, the recession, the unemployment rates, etc. Think they ever will ?? Doubt it, the administration will slant the numbers in their favor; the republicRATs will slant them in their direction.

  • U1: Percentage of labor force unemployed 15 weeks or longer.
  • U2: Percentage of labor force who lost jobs or completed temporary work.
  • U3: Official unemployment rate per ILO definition.
  • U4: U3 + "discouraged workers", or those who have stopped looking for work because current economic conditions make them believe that no work is available for them.
  • U5: U4 + other "marginally attached workers", or "loosely attached workers", or those who "would like" and are able to work, but have not looked for work recently.
  • U6: U5 + Part time workers who want to work full time, but cannot due to economic reasons.

And now: the democRAT version:

  • * U1: This is the proportion of the civilian labor force that has been unemployed for 15 weeks or longer. This unemployment rate measures workers who are chronically unemployed. During business-cycle expansions, this rate captures structural unemployment. However, during lengthy business-cycle contractions, this rate is also likely to include a significant amount of cyclical unemployment. U1 tends to be relatively small, in the range of 1-2 percent.
  • * U2: This is the proportion of the civilian labor force that is classified as job losers (workers who have been involuntarily fired or laid off from their jobs) and people who have completed temporary jobs. During business-cycle expansions, this rate is likely to capture some degree of frictional unemployment. However, during business-cycle contractions, this rate is most likely to consist of cyclical unemployment. U2 is larger than U1, but still remains substantially less than the official unemployment rate (U3).
  • * U3: This is the official unemployment rate, which is the proportion of the civilian labor force that is unemployed but actively seeking employment.
  • * U4: This is the official unemployment rate that is adjusted for discouraged workers. In other words, discouraged workers are treated just like other workers who are officially classified as unemployed, being included in both the ranks of the unemployed and the labor force. It is technically specified as the proportion of the civilian labor force (plus discouraged workers) that is either unemployed but actively seeking employment or discouraged workers. The addition of discouraged workers generally adds a few tenths of a percentage point to the official unemployment rate.
  • * U5: This augments U4 by including marginally-attached workers to the unemployment rate calculation. Marginally attached workers are potential workers who have given up seeking employment for various reasons. One of these reasons is that the workers believe such effort would be futile, which places them in the discouraged worker category. Those who have other reasons for not seeking employment are placed in the broader marginally-attached workers category. The addition of marginally-attached workers adds a few more tenths of a percentage point to the official unemployment rate.
  • * U6: This augments U5 by including part-time workers to the unemployment rate calculation. The addition of part-time workers adds a full 2-3 percentage points to the official unemployment rate. This measure of unemployment is perhaps the most comprehensive measure of labor resource unemployment available.

I've been trying to find the current unemployment levels for the various categories.... man, talk about confusing, hidden information; but.... I SHALL NOT BE DETERRED!!

I found this in a Bureau of Labor Statistics PDF file;

Table A-12; at http://www.bls.gov/news.release/pdf/empsit.pdf

Unemployment rates by category:

  • U-1: 4.9%
  • U-2: 6.0%
  • U-3: 9.6%
  • U-4: 10.0%
  • U-5: 10.9%
  • U-6: 16.9%

The European press I check out regularly are saying the American recession has ended, but recovery will be slow. How the Hell can they say that and justify the percentages above?!?!

MORE CONFUSED THAN EVER??

This'n'That;September 9th[Constitution;Slaughter;Email]

Should It Prevail?
On September 17, 1787, the United States Constitution was completed in Philadelphia, Pa. On March 4, 1789, the government began operations under the Constitution. So....the document has existed for two hundred, twenty-two years; we Americans have lived under it's provisions for the last two hundred and twenty years!
Should this document continue to govern America and Americans? The times and circumstances have changed greatly since those old, dead guys argued about it, compromised on it's provisions and wrote it.
  • Unequivocally, YES! The Constitution has been amended over it's life to accomodate the changes in Americans' needs and desires; sure, it doesn't address every need of every citizen; it recognizes the greatest benefit to the greatest number! Never in it's history has the Constitution been as completely ignored as it has in this century! Since the beginning of the twentieth-century, each administrations' presidents and the totality of the Congress have continued to ignore it's provisions.
  • President George H.W. Bush is quoted: "I didn't have to get permission from some old goat in the United States Congress to kick Saddam Hussein out of Kuwait." Mister Bush failed to realize or remember that the Congress declares war, usually at the request of the sitting president.
  • The same requirement applies to President George W. Bush as well.
  • In but one instance of the obama administration's ignoring the Constitution, the thirty-five-plus appointed"czars" are patently unconstitutional. These czars are in effect are "sub-dictators," bringing their individual socialist views into play against the citizenry. The constitution provides that political appointees be approved with the advise and consent of the United States Senate. The czars are not!!
  • The 534 members of the Congress [remember, Phatt Kennedy went to answer for Mary Jo Kopechne] have continually ignored the desires of their constituencies. Since the current marxist administration came into power, practically everything the congress and the administration have attempted, has had to be passed through the congress "by last Friday!!" Everything is an emergency; America will fail if these aren't enacted!! They continually push legislation through in the "dead-of-night" so the people have no idea of what they'll be subjected to next. The marxists continue to "flood the system" with this emergency legislation to confuse the public; to put so much on the "American plate" that the constituency can only focus on those issues important to them--to the detriment of all the others!!
  • Now is the time to call EVERYONE IN WASHINGTON to task for their malfeasance in office!! Call them every day!! Write them every day!! Email them every day!! Discuss their ineptitude with friends, EVERY DAY!!
....Speaking Of "Ignoring Their Constituencies...."
For months now, local [Rochester, N.Y.] talkshow host-Bob Lounsberry has been trying to get Rep Louise McIntosh Rodham Slaughter as a guest on his daily show. Seems Ms Slaughter is: unavailable; on the house floor; cruising around in her $900/month, taxpayer-leased Buick; Yada,Yada.....
  • Now we find out that on 09/02/009, rather than speak before a majority of her constituents, she opts to talk with Ron Reagan on AirAmerica-with his listenership of about 4-dozen citizens... nationwide!!
  • Now we find out that on 08/07/009, rather than speak before a majority of her constituents, she opted to speak before WXXI cameras on FluffyCare. WXXI has about the same viewership as Ron Reagan's listenership!!
Geeze, Louise!!! I for one, am going to help a majority of the votership "hand you your ass on a silver platter," come November, 2010!!
...An Email I Sent-You Should Too....
[I sent the below email to everyone in my address book-You should do the same!!!]
Good Morning, Folks; Today, 09/09/2009-Senator Harry Reid [d-Nv] is attempting to envoke a vote of cloiture on the Senate's consideration of Cass Sunstein, who is obama's nominee to be the "regulatory czar." Everyone in America should call both of their senators to insist that this confirmation NOT BE APPROVED!!Sunstein is a guy who advocates:
A. Complete federal control of the internet, to the point that the Executive Branch could prevent private networks' and individuals' access. B. The government should endorse actions of persons attempting to act on behalf of animals, "to bring private suits to ensure that anti-cruelty and related laws are actually enforced. If a farm is treating horses cruelly ... a suit could be brought, on behalf of those animals ...." C. That there should be extensive regulation of the use of animals in entertainment, in scientific experiments and in agriculture and that "there is a strong argument, in principle, for bans on many current uses of animals." D. Meat-eating would be acceptable if decent treatment is given to the animals used for food." E. He also has some bizarre rules and regulations in store for those of us who are of the two-legged variety as well. And as you might have guessed , they dovetail perfectly with the "toss-the-seniors-overboard" philosophy of his benefactor, Barack Obama. F. Sunstein has proposed that, wherever the effectiveness of a policy is examined using a Cost/Benefit Analysis, government agencies should adopt a standard that takes into account a person's age. This standard he readily admits "would likely result in significantly lower benefits calculations for elderly people, and significantly higher benefits calculations for children."
And........there's even more here: http;//andersonvalleypost.com/news/2009/sep/08/A-new-regulatory-czar/ TODAY, I-as a concerned citizen-will call "Chuckie-Cheese" Schumer, New York's senatorial DUNCE-IN-CHARGE and his junior-senator-in-training, Kirsten Gillibrand and demand that this confirmation not take place!!! You should call yours as well!!! Joe Hart, Rochester, N.Y.

This'n'That;September 7th[Jones;Dividends;S&W;Quote]

Republic Wins; Communism Loses! [The American patriot "caught up with" Anthony Jones early in what would have been a destructive career in federal service!! In his resignation letter, Jones whines that the comments against him are part of a smear campaign, using lies and distortions. His on-going membership in the American Communist Party is hardly a lie or a distortion!!! This is the route ALL of Fluffy's CZARS should be forced down-They're UNCONSTITUTIONAL!! They're unelected and most of them have the "Fluffy-given" power to fundamentally change the politics, economy, liberties, rights and freedoms enjoyed by both legal and illegal Americans!!] Jones came under withering fire in recent days because of comments he’d made before he joined the administration. Those included attacks on Republicans for their environmental positions. The heat only increased after “his name also appeared on a 2004 petition calling for the government to investigate its own culpability in the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001,” according to the WSJ. Though Jones resigned, he wasn’t apologetic. “On the eve of historic fights for health care and clean energy, opponents of reform have mounted a vicious smear campaign against me. They are using lies and distortions to distract and divide,” he wrote in his resignation letter. Jones was a public figure and green jobs advocate until the moment he joined the White House Council on Environmental Quality; then he all but disappeared from public view. Dividend Payers To Consider "Coca-Cola (NYSE: KO) has a strong position among this group of dividend elites. The company has paid a dividend continuously since 1893. The firm has lifted its dividend annually for the last 47 years. "Colgate-Palmolive (NYSE: CL) takes a back seat to no company when it comes to consistency and growth of its dividend. The firm has been paying a dividend since 1895, with the dividend increased annually for the last 46 years. "Exxon Mobil (NYSE: XOM) usually appears on everyone’s list of dividend elites, for good reason. The firm has been paying a dividend since 1882 and has increased the dividend annually for the last 26 years. Strong cash flows should continue to fund a rising dividend stream; it currently yields 2.3%. "Eli Lilly (NYSE: LLY) has paid its dividend since 1885. Dividends have increased annually for more than 40 years. These shares trade at only seven times 2010 consensus earnings estimate of $4.54 per share. The stock’s current yield is 5.9%. "PPG Industries (NYSE: PPG) is a global supplier of paints, coatings, optical products, specialty materials, chemicals, glass, and fiber glass. "The company has paid a dividend annually since 1899 and has boosted its dividend every year for 37 years. The stock’s current yield is 3.9%. "Stanley Works (NYSE: SWK) may surprise some people with its stellar long-term dividend record. The company, best known for its tools, has paid a dividend since 1877 and has boosted that dividend in each of the last 42 years. "Still, the 2009 consensus earnings estimate of $2.36 per share is more than adequate to cover the stock’s current indicated annual dividend of $1.32 per share. "Procter & Gamble (NYSE PG), is also a member of this exclusive club. P&G has paid a dividend every year since 1891 and has boosted its dividend annually for more than 50 years. ....A Way To Counteract Commie-Libs [Given the current political climate in America, this might be a very good stock to own-as well as one or more of it's products!!] "Smith & Wesson has been a partner in law enforcement since the 1800s, developing crime-fighting tools that set the standard for the field. "Its world-famous .357 Magnum was developed specifically for law enforcement agencies, and the Smith & Wesson .38 Special has been adopted as the caliber of choice at one time or another by hundreds of police departments. "The Supreme Court has recently upheld Second Amendment rights and Smith & Wesson is one of the world's leading suppliers, forging a well-deserved reputation for high-quality precision weapons. "The company still regularly wins shooting industry awards; it recently received top awards from the Shooting Industry Academy of Excellence including 'Rifle of the Year' and 'Manufacturer of the Year.' "Also, the Maryland Natural Resources Police recently converted to the Smith & Wesson M&P pistol, citing 'enhanced ergonomics and ambidextrous controls,' as well as the officers' ability to disassemble the firearm without pressing the trigger. "Last month, Smith & Wesson completed the acquisition of Universal Safety Response, the original creator of the patented GRAB vehicle safety barrier and the fastest growing barrier technology in the world. "This buyout helps the firm expand its reach beyond firearms and into the broader market for products that provide safety, security and protection. "Of course, as investors our primary interest is in numbers. And Smith & Wesson hits the target here, too. Quarterly revenue is up 19.8%. Quarterly earnings are up 125%. And Smith & Wesson has been exceeding analysts' estimates all year. "But there is still plenty of upside ahead. Severe economic downturns generally increase crime. That causes increased demand by both consumers and police departments for high-quality weapons. "Today, virtually every major law enforcement and military agency in the world uses Smith & Wesson products. And the company has a 150-year history of reliability. "The Model 10 firearm, for example, is the only handgun in the world that's been in continuous production since it was introduced in 1899. Incidentally, Smith & Wesson also sells camping, fishing and sporting gear and accessories online and through its distributors. "In short, the outlook remains promising. And a poor economy won't do anything to change that. Expect sales and earnings to jump at least another 25% in the year ahead. The stock should do considerably better." The Words We Live By Several months ago I found a book on the 'cheap-o" tables at the local Barnes & Noble. "Words We Live By" Your Annotated Guide To The Constitution, by Linda R. Monk . This book is a wealth of information for the layman who's interested in expanding his or her general knowledge of the U.S. Constitution. It contains many quotes from people of all walks of life. One of those quotes by John Hart Ely, one of the preeminent legal scholars in American history. This pretty much illustrates the beginnings of the current "do-nothing but exert control" Congress!!
Constitutional scholar John Hart Ely argues that both Congress and the courts have abdicated their responsibility to preserve the constitutional role of Congress in warmaking.

Without Congressional Participation "Contrary to the words and unmistakable purpose of the Constitution, contrary as well to reasonably consistent practice from the dawn of the republic to the mid-twentieth century.... decisions [to go to war] have been made throughout the Cold War period by the executive {president}, without significant congressional participation [or willingness to insist on such participation]. It is common to style this shift a usurpation, but that oversimplifies to the point of misstatement. It's true our Cold War presidents generally wanted it that way, but Congress [and the courts] ceded the ground without a fight. In fact,.... the legislative surrender was a self-interested one:"

"Accountability is pretty frightening stuff."

This'n'That;September 3rd[Beck;'NetControl;DairyFarmers]

Asking The Tough Questions! [Hopefully, Fluffy obama's "FluffyCare" will go down in flaming wreckage!! When it does, the taxpayer has Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and to the greatest extent-Glenn Beck to thank. As noted in the excerpted article below from the Financial Times, Beck's radio and television shows {totaling twenty hours each week} are major vehicles for bringing factual information to the American taxpayer. Mr Beck doesn't hesitate in asking the ACORN administration the tough questions; although the administration rarely comments or acknowledges those questions. Wonder Why?!?! On the topic of "tough questions, Glenn did a week-long TV 'series' on the tough questions the public must ask if we are to rescue the country from the hands of the socialists, marxists, stalinists and communists that surround Fluffy as "Czars." I shall periodically comment on the series; in a "day-by-day" format, under the "America Forsaken?" heading.] If the White House is trying to figure how it lost control of the debate over healthcare in August, it could take a look at Glenn Beck’s television and radio ratings. The conservative talk radio host, who also has an hourly slot on Fox News every day, has seen his viewer numbers soar even as opponents have pressed companies to withdraw advertising from the show. Earlier this month, Mr Beck, a recovering alcoholic and former pop music disc jockey who turned to political radio after 9/11, sparked outrage when he accused Barack Obama of being a racist. “This president has exposed himself as a guy over and over and over again who has a deep-seated hatred for white people,” said Mr Beck. “This guy is, I believe, a racist.” [Beck probably ment that alleged Reverend Jeremiah Wright is the racist!!] Mr Beck, who attracts the third highest listenership at between 8m and 10m after Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh, the more established conservative radio hosts, also sparked protests when he likened Mr Obama’s plans for a civilian corps to Nazi stormtroopers. The White House declined to comment on any of Mr Beck’s remarks. Observers say Mr Beck’s 20-hour weekly output has helped shift the debate away from Mr Obama on healthcare and fuelled talk that the proposed reforms would lead to a government takeover that would include “death panels” for senior citizens. “Glenn Beck makes Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity look like level-headed philosophers,” says Karl Frisch, a senior fellow at Media Matters, a liberal watchdog. “He peddles his own unique brand of paranoia.” People who work for Mr Beck, who earned an estimated $23m (€16m, £14m) last year, according to Forbes magazine, putting him in the top 100 celebrities of 2009, say critics unfairly take quotes out of context. They argue that Mr Beck, whose audience includes a higher ratio of women and young people than other talk radio hosts, is a libertarian, rather than a social conservative, whose strongest criticisms are on the expanded role of government. They also say he was a sharp critic of George W. Bush’s fiscal record and his conduct of the war in Iraq. “Glenn’s relationship is with his millions of listeners, readers and viewers who have a deeper connection with him than random newcomers who may have stumbled upon him through an out of context blog post,” says Stu Burguiere, executive producer of Mr Beck’s radio show. But nothing has gained Mr Beck such attention as his quips about the US’s first non-white president. Given the rise in his ratings, which were boosted further with an endorsement last week by Sarah Palin, the former governor of Alaska, on her Facebook site, industry observers say they doubt Mr Beck’s earnings potential has been harmed. “Unfortunately, controversy sells in the end,” says Michael Harrison, publisher of Talkers Magazine, which covers the industry. The numbers do not necessarily bear this out. Last month Mr Beck’s Fox News viewer numbers surged ahead of the season premiere of Mad Men following Mr Beck’s comment about Mr Obama. Mad Men got 2.8m viewers. Mr Beck’s show attracted 3m. Mr Beck’s next commercial opportunity comes later this month when he releases a book, Arguing with Idiots, that takes another shot at liberals. It is a lucrative business. His last book has sold more than 1m copies. It's NOT About Maximizing Control?? [The socialist liberals-Jay Rockefeller[d-WV] and Olympia Snow[r-Me]-are failing to realize that connection to the internet is completely optional... No one is forcing you, me, the DoD, no one, to connect!! Other than the "control" facet, why is there any concern at all??] During the Commerce Secretary Confirmation Hearing on Wednesday, March 18th, 2009, Senator Jay Rockefeller, that's Jay Rockefeller of the Rockefeller/Rothschild global elite known as the New World Order, said "When the internet was invented everyone fell flat on their face they were so thrilled, and the world began to do business in a different way.
  • He continues: So, I mean, it really almost makes you ask the question would it have been better had we not invented the internet and had to use paper and pencil whatever?
  • And That's a stupid thing to say, but it has genuine consequence, because it's on the internet that these acts of shutting down, ya know they have television ads every day saying the DOD is attacked 3 million times a day, and it's true. Everybody is attacked, anybody can do it.
  • People say it's China and Russia, but there could be some kid in Latvia doing the same thing. I mean it's individual acts. It doesn't require a sleeper cell, ammonia, explosives, it's just an act.
  • And yet it's an act which can shut this country down, it's electricity system, banking system, shutdown about anything we have to offer. It's an awesome problem.
  • On the Intelligence Committee we were taken for a full day, to an undisclosed place in Virginia, to discuss this. It is a fearsome, awesome problem. It's broader than that too. I wonder where this stands with you, what your thoughts are and what we should be doing about it.
West Virginian Senator Jay Rockefeller is working on a bill that would give Fluffy control over the Internet in the event of what he terms a “cybersecurity emergency.”
  • The bill would allow him to declare such an emergency and take control of private-sector networks.
  • It doesn’t however specify what would constitute such an event or why the president would need to control the Internet during one.
  • The bill, co-sponsored by Maine Senator Olympia Snowe, has been revised but ISPs and civil liberties groups are still deeply troubled by it.
“I think the redraft, while improved, remains troubling due to its vagueness,” said Larry Clinton, president of the Internet Security Alliance, which counts representatives of Verizon, Verisign, Nortel, and Carnegie Mellon University on its board. “It is unclear what authority Sen. Rockefeller thinks is necessary over the private sector. Unless this is clarified, we cannot properly analyze, let alone support the bill.”
  • The bill also includes provisions for a federally run certification program for cybersecurity professionals and a mandate that certain private-sector networks and computer systems be run only by people who have obtained that certification.
  • It also directs the White House to do “periodic mapping” of networks classified as critical and for the companies running those networks to hand over certain information to the government. While the government certainly must start taking cyber threats and security a lot more seriously, taking control over private networks should be the least of its concerns.
  • Right now they need to exercise a lot more control over their own, which have been hit by DDoS attacks in recent weeks.
Fluffy obama himself admitted the government is not nearly as prepared for such events as it should be. He promised to create a new cybersecurity coordinator position within the administration, but months later it still has not been filled. It’s hard to understand why Sen. Rockefeller thinks the government should be able to take over private networks when it can’t even secure its own properly. "Cash For Cows" or "Money For Milk?" No doubt, New York's dairy farmers are in a financial "pickle," with milk prices at a historic bottom, currently about $5 per hundredweight below production costs. Nearly 3,000 mostly family owned dairy farms have gone out of business in the past 10 years. Price supports in the most recent federal farm bill, local farmers say, aren't sufficient to offset the effects of the recession and credit crunch. "The committee is looking into whether we can get some of this stimulus money and how it would be used," Minn Rep Peterson, Chmn of the House Agriculture Cmte said during a meeting in a large tent set up outside the New York Wine and Culinary Center. "There's money available." Massa said various state delegations are competing for about $1 billion in stimulus funds that was appropriated as part of the original $787 billion package.
  • About 75 farmers and their representatives met with the two congressmen.
  • While the discussion had none of the raucousness and rancor of recent town hall meetings on
health care, farmers attending expressed concern about inadequate price supports, corporate special interests, crackdowns on migrant farm workers.
  • Pending food safety legislation that organic farms say would unfairly target them. But the state of the New York dairy industry was the focus.
  • "I don't know where the money is coming from but it is urgent that it be done," said Sam Casella, a farmer and former Canandaigua town supervisor. William Eck, an Orleans County lawmaker who said he sold his farm before prices collapsed, said a strong market prior to the recession has held up dairy farmers to this point. "But if nothing is done by next year, or even this fall, farms will go under," Eck said. Til Nex'Time....
