This'n'That; April Thirteenth #1; Don't Buy This!

....Nothing But Trouble!!
    Well, it finally 'crapped-the-bed,' -AGAIN!!
Just over a year ago, I bought a new computer from BJ's Wholesale Club, Webster, N.Y.  It was one of those Hewlett-Packard "All-in-One" units; with the hard-drive behind the screen-looked like a good option to me!
This thing was CRAP, 'right-out'ta-the-box!!  We owned this computer for less than 48 hours when it attempted 'suicide!'  We've all been there!!  This suicide attempt forced me to call HP's 'help-line,' most probably a tent in India.  What a waste!!  The young girl (Peggy?!?) I talked with was completely inept-as is normal.  She continually read from her script; one line was to have me get on HP's website.  I couldn't convince her that the computer was not currently capable of anything but a lighted screen!!  I tried to speak with her supervisor-to no avail; I tried to have er 'send me' to someone in the US-to no avail!!  Eventually, I was forced to just hang up on her-we could not communicate.  I took the computer to a local repair shop-"Jeff's Computers" in Webster.  The technicians had to replace the hard-drive after retreaving my data.  Bear in mind that I bought the computer the end of May, 2010; it had  a new '(HP) brain' by the first of June, 2010.
Now, fast-forward to last Saturday, April Eighth.  This ten-month-old hard-drive crapped out!!  When Debbie from "Jeff's" called me yesterday with the news that this fully-warranted hard-drive had 'crapped out,  I had a couple of options:  Replace the hard-drive involving about eight weeks (it had to be returned to the manufacturer, a new one shipped to "Jeff's") and the 'transplant' would cost me out-of-pocket, about $300; or just buy something else.  Well, I decided to scrap the HP 'All-in-One' and buy a 'previously enjoyed' laptop from "Jeff's" that could also be taken with us on our travels.  Debbie told me I'll have four-or-five to choose from, so later this morning I'll go to Webster and make my choice.
Through all this, I've learned one and possibly two things; Never-ever-ever-ever-ever-NEVER buy anything that has the words: Hewlett or Packard ('cept maybe a car!!) or HP!!!!  And.... new?  I don't think so; all of "Jeff's" offerings have been completely reconditioned, the shop will stand behind them AND they're LOCAL!!
Til Nex'Time....
