Iran's Agenda In The Gaza Offensive

Summary    To begin to make sense of the escalating conflict in Gaza, we need to go back to the night of Oct. 23 in Khartoum. Around 11 p.m. that night, the Yarmouk weapons facility in the Sudanese capital was attacked, presumably by the Israeli air force. There were indications that Iran had been using this facility to stockpile and possibly assemble weapons, including anti-aircraft missiles, guided anti-tank missiles and long-range Fajr-5 rockets capable of reaching Tel Aviv and Jerusalem from Gaza.
    One of the major drivers behind Israel's latest air and assassination campaign is its belief that Hamas has a large cache of long-range Fajr-3 and Fajr-5 rockets in its possession. Israel's primary intent in this military campaign is to deny Hamas the ability to use these rockets or keep them as a constant threat to Israel's population centers. This likely explains why in early October, when short-range rocket attacks from Gaza were still at a low level, Israeli officials began conditioning the public to the idea of an "inevitable" Israeli intervention in Gaza. Israel knew Hamas had these weapons in its possession and that it could require a war to eliminate the Fajr rocket threat. It began with the strike on the facility in Sudan, extended to the assassination of Hamas military commander Ahmad Jabari (the architect of the Fajr rocket program) and now has the potential to develop into an Israeli ground incursion in Gaza.
Analysis
    Oct. 23 was not the first time Israel allegedly attacked weapons caches in Sudanese territory that were destined for Gaza. In January 2009, Israel allegedly carried out an airstrike against a weapons convoy northwest of Port Sudan heading to Gaza. The convoy included Fajr-3 rockets and was unusually large, with more than 20 trucks traveling north toward Gaza. Egypt, Gaza And The Sinai Peninsula

Summary    The conflict in Gaza comes at an interesting time in Egyptian-Israeli relations. Cairo recently saw the Muslim Brotherhood candidate assume the Egyptian presidency, while in the past two years Israel has approved two Egyptian military increases "in the Sinai Peninsula above levels set in the Camp David Accords. The disposition of the forces in Sinai coupled with the presence of the U.N.-mandated Multinational Force and Observers mean at present, Egyptian forces do not pose a significant threat to Israel. How Egypt will respond to the conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip remains to be seen, but should the Morsi government or Egypt's military decide to support Gaza, such support would likely consist of turning a blind eye toward militant activities and smuggling in the Sinai Peninsula.
Analysis
    Egypt is one of Israel's most powerful neighbors. Initially hostile to Israel, the two countries have been at peace for nearly 40 years. Following the 1973 Yom Kippur war, the 1978 Camp David Peace Accords between Israel and Egypt established guidelines for what Egypt could do in the Sinai Peninsula in a bid to keep the peace. Strategically, the peace agreement made the peninsula a buffer between Israel and Egypt. It permitted only enough forces in Sinai to enforce security.
    The agreement divided the Sinai Peninsula into four zones of increasing neutrality. Egypt is allowed an entire mechanized or infantry division in Zone A, which abuts the Suez Canal. In Zone B, its armed presence is limited to municipal police and border patrol. 1,600 international peacekeepers are spread out across 32 bases in the east of Zone C, and Israel is allowed a limited presence in Zone D.

Update On The Israel-Gaza Conflict

Summary
 New intelligence indicates forces in Gaza may be manufacturing long-range rockets locally. If this is the case, a significant ground force offers the Israelis the best chance of finding and neutralizing the factories making these weapons. Meanwhile, Israel continues its airstrikes on Gaza, and Gaza continues its long-range rocket attacks on major Israeli population centers, though Israel claims its Iron Dome defense system has intercepted most of the rockets.

Analysis

Israel appears to be positioning itself for a ground operation, perhaps as early as the night of Nov. 17. The Israeli Cabinet on Nov. 16 approved Defense Minister Ehud Barak's request to call up 75,000 reservists, significantly more than during Operation Cast Lead in 2008-2009. The Israeli army meanwhile has also sought to strengthen its presence on the borders with Gaza. Primary roads leading to Gaza and running parallel to Sinai have been declared closed military zones. Tanks, armored personnel carriers, self-propelled artillery and troops continue to stream to the border, and many units already appear to be in position.
During Operation Cast Lead, the Israelis transitioned to the ground phase around 8:00 p.m. on Jan. 3, 2009. Going in during dark hours allows the IDF to take advantage of its superior night-fighting equipment and training, including the use of night vision goggles and thermal optics.
The Israeli air force remained active throughout the night of Nov. 16-17, striking at targets across the Gaza Strip including key Hamas ministries, police stations and tunnels near the border crossing with Egypt. The IAF reportedly carried out strikes in Rafah's al-Sulan and al-Zahour neighborhoods, as well as east of the al-Maghazi refugee camp. According to IDF reports, the air force carried out a rapid and coordinated military strike, targeting approximately 70 underground medium-range rocket-launching sites in the less than an hour. The IDF claims direct hits were confirmed. The IAF will increasingly target Hamas militant defenses ahead of any ground invasion. Already the IAF has bombed militant defensive positions, particularly in the northern part of the Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, Hamas and other militant factions in Gaza have been actively striking back at Israel. More than 80 rockets have been launched from Gaza over the past 24 hours. Of the rockets launched Nov. 17, approximately 57 landed in Israel. According to the IDF, a total of 640 rockets have been launched since Nov. 14, with 410 landing in Israel. A long-range rocket was fired from Gaza toward Tel Aviv at approximately 4:45 p.m. local time Nov. 17 but was successfully intercepted by the recently deployed Iron Dome anti-rocket defense system in the area. Hezbollah Remains Wary amid Israeli Operations in Gaza

    While Hamas is preparing for an Israeli ground assault into Gaza, Hezbollah's movements on Israel's northern frontier bear close watching. Iranian Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi on Nov. 17 called on the Muslim world to retaliate against Israeli actions in Gaza. Naturally, many are looking in the direction of Lebanon, where Hezbollah, Iran's most capable militant proxy, could open a second front against Israel.
    Though Iran would welcome the opportunity to demonstrate the spectrum of its militant proxy strength, especially after supplying Hamas with the long-range Fajr-5 rockets that have been targeting Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, Hezbollah will likely be extremely cautious in deciding whether to participate in this war. The group's fate is linked to that of the embattled regime of Syrian President Bashar al Assad; should Syria fracture along sectarian lines, Lebanon is likely to descend into civil war, and Hezbollah will have to conserve its strength and resources for a battle at home against its sectarian rivals. A Pause for Negotiations in the Israeli-Hamas Conflict

    The Israeli-Hamas conflict has entered into a negotiation phase. Both sides want talks. Hamas wants them because any outcome that prevents an Israeli ground assault gives it the opportunity to retain some of its arsenal of Fajr-5 rockets; the Israelis want them because the cost of an invasion could be high, and they recall the political fallout of Operation Cast Lead in 2008, which alienated many European and other governments.
No matter how much either side might want to avoid ground warfare, negotiations are unlikely to forestall an Israeli assault because Hamas' and Israel's goals leave little middle ground.
    One of Hamas' main goals in this current round of fighting is to retain enough Fajr-5 rockets to allow it to threaten the Israeli heartland, the Tel Aviv-Jerusalem corridor. Rumors On A Gaza Cease-Fire

    Contradictory rumors regarding the outcome of cease-fire negotiations between Hamas and Israel have increased dramatically in recent hours. A Hamas spokesman told Al Jazeera that Israel and Hamas have agreed to 90 percent of the terms of a new cease-fire. Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi is reportedly meeting the evening of Nov. 18 with a delegation led by Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal and another delegation led by Palestinian Islamic Jihad Secretary-General Ramadan Abdullah Shallah. While Israeli officials have told news outlets that the government is in talks with Cairo on a cease-fire, Israeli officials are now denying reports that an Israeli envoy actually traveled to Cairo Nov. 18 for cease-fire talks. Meanwhile, Turkey appears to be trying to integrate itself into the cease-fire talks with reported plans for Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu to travel to Gaza on Nov. 20.

    A Palestinian who was wounded Nov. 17 during protests in the West Bank against Israel's ongoing operations in the Gaza Strip has died from his injuries, the Palestinian Ma'an news agency reported Nov. 19. The West Bank has been calm in recent years, but significant protests have been taking place across the eastern Palestinian territory -- which is ruled by Hamas' secular rival, Fatah -- in response to Israel's Operation Pillar of Defense. The protester's death could widen that unrest.

Gaza Crisis: U.S. Should Press Egypt to Rein in Hamas

    Although the current Gaza crisis is in many ways reminiscent of the last flare-up in December 2008–January 2009, there are important differences this time around. Hamas’s terrorist reach now includes Israel’s heartland cities of Jerusalem and Tel Aviv due to long-range Iranian rockets. However, Israel’s new Iron Dome missile defense system has mitigated this threat. The “Arab Spring” uprisings have also significantly altered the geopolitical landscape of the Middle East by resetting Egypt’s foreign policy, which may have emboldened Hamas to trigger the current crisis.
To broker a stable cease-fire that doesn’t harm Israel, the United States should work closely with Egypt, which has strong influence with Hamas and seeks to prevent the fighting from threatening its economy. This will be a litmus test for Egypt’s new Islamist leadership. The U.S. must be clear about what is required to build an acceptable and sustainable cease-fire. Washington must leverage its aid to Cairo to ensure an outcome that halts rocket attacks, protects civilians on both sides of the border, limits Hamas’s ability to rearm, reduces Iranian influence, and enhances regional security.

This'n'That; September Seventeenth #3; Which One?!?

obama Just "The Amateur In The Room" or....
    Is "Clown Prince" obama nothing more than "the smartest amateur in the room" or is he just another treasonous American 'ruler?'  To attempt to figure what goes on in that empty, socio-fascist head of his, we need to look at the time line of this latest foreign policy failure:
1.  On or about September 9th, the State Department had information from a credible source that the Cairo and Benghazi embassies were targeted for attack by radical MUSLIM terrorists.
2.  On September 10th, the "Clown Prince" met with the National Security Council; apparently nobody told him about the aformentioned information.  They forget, when you're the country's immaculant ruler, plausible deniability doesn't apply!! 
3.  On September 11th, said embassies were indeed attacked by radical MUSLIM terrorists, with four American souls murdered in Benghazi.
4.  On September 11th, both "Clown Prince" obama and Secretary of State Hillary Rob'em Clinton started the regime's normal obfuscations of the truth.  They attempted to blame the attacks on a film allegedly misaligning the radical MUSLIM terrorists' prophet Mohammed.
5.  On September 12th "Clown Prince" obama--even in the face of 4 murders he's directly responsible for--chose to once again skip his daily intelligence briefing in favor of lining his 're-election pockets' and continuing to demogogue Governor Mitt Romney at a Las Vegas fundraiser. 
6.  On September 15th the State Department finally 'got serious' about the radical MUSLIM terrorism at U.S.' Middle Eastern facilities.  Families and non-essential personnel were ordered out of embassies in The Sudan and Tunisia.  Since the Egypt/Libya attacks by radical MUSLIM terrorists, there have been--mostly peaceful--demonstrations in about  20 countries, mostly in the Middle East, Europe and Africa.
7.  On September 16th The Bilderberg Group marched the American UN Whizkid, Susan Rice out on the 'Sunday shows' to continue to guide the regime's narrative.  Not very convincing, but she tried.  She also pressed the regime position that the Libyan attacks that killed the four American souls, were not co-ordinated; were unplanned.  As ususal, Ms Rice--as a regime mouthpiece--got caught in her lies. 
8. On September 16th, while speaking with CBS' "Face The Nation," Libyan President Mohamed Yousef El-Magaraif said:
"It was planned, definitely.  It was planned by foreigners, by people who entered the country a few months ago.  And they were planning this criminact since their arrival."
"The way these perpetrators acted and moved--I think we, and they're choosing the specific date for this so-called demonstration.  I think we have no, this leaves us with no doubt that this was pre-planned, determined." 
    There we have it.  People on every level of the regime have been caught in agregious lies or at the least, not forthcoming with the whole truth.  Who are we to rely on for governance?
Governor Mitt Romney, who early on, forcefully condemned the radical MUSLIM terrorists' actions and correctly laid the blame on the ever-failing obama regime?

I think the nation's voters have alot of reckonin' to do; when all's said and done, they'll choose an entirely different path for the United States!

Don't Be A Part Of The obama "Bullshit!"
    While not falling for the Congressional or the obama 'bullshit' myself, I intend to honor the concepts of rememberance and service.

As a part of my service, I intend to gin up as much local 'vote-obama-out' sentiment and action as I can.  I have no doubt my actions will--in part--help to make America a better place to live, work, raise a family, retire and finally to be laid to rest.

This'n'That; August Twenty-Eighth #2; My Reading List

Finally, Catchin' Up On My Reading!
    With a suspected pinched nerve in my lower back, I've been forced to 'take-it-easy,' primarily cuz I have no choice!!  If ya can't walk upright, there ain't much ya can do!! Both "The Young Miss Lovely" and I are voracious readers; she just having finished a book, me having run out of unread books, I picked up the seemingly, most readable book in her library: 
Homer's Odyssey, by Gwen Cooper. 
Ms Cooper's sub-title for the book: 
A Fearless Feline Tale, or how I learned about love and life with a blind wonder cat.
    I want to highlight a specific quote in the book, but first let me set the stage.  The principal character is Homer, a blind--eyeless--black kitten.  Homer was found as a two-week-old orphan with infections in both eyes so severe that his eyeballs had to be surgically removed to maintain life.  Ms Cooper adopted Homer soon after said surgery, before the stitches were out; before that silly cone-around-the-neck had been removed.  Homer was the third cat to populate the Cooper household, with two adult, sighted cats.

    There are exciting adventures too numerous to recount, of Homer's adaptation to his surroundings; his fearlessness in the face of disability; his huge capacity for love of all things!!  This quote--in the first paragraphs of Chapter Sixteen--really impressed me as phraseology too few use for fear of offending those judgmental souls among us:

    Prior to the break-in, I had been on exacly one date where the man in question made it past the front door of my apartment and into the apertment itself.  He'd arrived on a Thursday evening to pick me up, and I'd invited him inside for a drink before we set out.  I went into the kitchen to mix us some cocktails.  When I came back into the living room I found Homer trapped in a corner by my date, who was standing in front of Homer and hissing loudly at him.  There was a wild, terrified look on Homer's face as his ears turned rapidly back and forth, as if he was trying to hear his way into an excape route.
I nearly dropped the glasses I was carrying. "What the ....?"
"He came over to me," my date explained.  "Black cats are bad luck."
    Most people made a point of being kind to Homer.  A small few were indifferent and simply left him alone.  But I had never witnessed anybody going out of his way to frighten a blind cat.  The voice I heard in my head sounded a lot like my mother's.
What kind of a person does such a thing?  Who raised this man?
    It may have been the one time in my life when I wished I were a man, ecause what I wanted more than anything in that moment was to haul off and belt that guy in the face.  I had a delightful vision of smashing the glass I held, Sopranos-style, against the side of his skull.  My hands clenched into fists around the ice-filled glasses until I thought frostbite would set in, but my voice was measured.
"The cat lives here," I said. 
"You do not.  Please get the hell out of my apartment."
    Not only this adventure, but Ms Cooper had moved from the 'South Beach' area of Miami to new employment just blocks from New York's Financial District, only months before muslim terrorists leveled 'The Twin Towers!'  This led to more adventures in getting Gwen reunited with her cats on the eleventh floor of a residential tower near "The World Trade Center."

It's The Economy, STUPID!!
    While the early 1990s economy was on a deliberate, shallow climb from the "Read my lips....." era of President George H.W. Bush (41), then-candidate "Slick-Willie" Clinton with Algore, kept beating us over the head with:
"....the worst economy in the last 50 years!" and
"It's the economy, stupid!"
People--"Slick-Willie's" own KoolAid drinkers--bought into the slogans of "Slick's" bumper-sticker campaign, his--poll driven--bumper-sticker administration.  The "Slick-and-Algore Show" continued their foray into advanced socialism for eight years.  While "Slick-Willie" continued his dalliances with 'the hired help;' screwing everything that walked--including the taxpayer--muslim terrorists were hard-at-work, planning many and various attacks on the United States and it's overseas assets.
    In the '90s--during "Slick's" two terms--"PayGo" was the largely ignored 'theme-of-the-day.'  In essence, the plan demanded that new spending legislation be 'paid-for' by spending cuts in other areas or the much-beloved tax increases.  The 1990s "PayGo" legislation conveniently expired in 2002 and was never brought up again until 2007.
    George W. Bush beat Algore after ump-teen Florida recounts and became president on January 20, 2001.  Just nine-months later, Al Qaeda brought down the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center!  This and various other security and diplomatic measures caused a 26% rise in deficit spending, to $378.2 BILLION; B-I-L-L-I-O-N!!
    The 2006 mid-term election brought a 1-seat owe-bamacRATic majority in the Senate, a 31-seat majority in the House of Representatives.  After Nancy PORKlosi was elected Speaker of the House, she made the following statements:

Senator 'pinky' reid--incoming Senate Majority Leader--also blathered about:

Statements of these two legislative miscreants attempted to re-ignite interest in largely ignored legislation forcing the Congress to curtail their "tax-and-spend" budgetary philosophy.  I estimate the re-ignition lasted all of about twenty-minutes!!  Then prevailing 'ignorance' resumed!!
    On January 20,2009--to re-invigorate the "Slick-Willie" Era of screwing-the-public--"Clown Prince ZERO-bama, the Narcissist" was immaculated.  The first day "Clownie" went to play in The Oval Office, the national debt was still just over $10 TRILLION (December, 2008-$10.7 TRILLION)!! An emperor in his own mind, the "Clown" started down the path of "empire equalization."  Rather than institute fiscal policies that would raise world-wide standards of living, "Clown Prince ZERO-bama, the Narcissist" went about lowering the American standard of living to the best (or worst) of his abilities!!
    To express his hatred for the United States in general--and his hatred for the accomplished i.e., the rich--"Clown Prince ZERO-bama, the Narcissist" went about his 'scorched economy' style destruction, simultaneously in two directions.  The PORKlus bill to reward his supporters, contributors and voters came into being in February, 2009-with funds borrowed largely from China.  His attempt at "Cap-and-Trade" legislation--where your utility bills will 'necessarily sky-rocket'--was soundly defeated while owe-bamaKare was a minor 'success (with major consequences!),' supported by congressional socio-fascists. 
    Since "The Grand Immaculation," the national debt has been increased by $6 TRILLION in less than three-years!  Yes, that's right! Over Two-Trillion-Bucks a year, on average!!  Currently--as illustrated by the national debt clock (http://www.usdebtclock.org/index.html --the United States Government OUT-SPENDS it's income by $1.3 TRILLION each year.  If you and I ran our checkbooks that way, we'd have been in jail for the last ump-teen years!! That's exactly where the likes of George Soros (an owe-bama handler-by-proxy), most of the Congressional Ruling Class of any party as well as all of the current regime should reside for the next decade, at least.  Now there's a job creator: building the prisons to house all these miscreants!!
