This'n'That; December 8th[EconMyths;NewCar;HOAX]

Do You Believe "Clown Prince" On The Economy?? [For me, believing Fluffy obama--ON ANYTHING--is ultra-difficult at best!! He and his minions are consistently in error in their judgements and prognostications!! Anything they do concerning statistics is later revised toward the negative.....after the buzz has worn off, when few "serfs" will notice.]
When reading economic statistics, you'll see if they are consistent (they rarely are) and make sense based on real world observations (lately they don't). On Thursday, December 3rd the U.S. productivity numbers were released, as were same store sales and weekly unemployment claims.
  • The stories these three pieces of data are telling are quite different, which means at least one and possibly two of them are not correct.
  • Productivity in the U.S. is supposedly up astronomically. It rose by 8.1% last quarter and this is after being revised down from being up 9.5%!
  • The recent downward revision of third quarter GDP from 3.5% to 2.8% meant the productivity numbers would be lower as well. Productivity is essentially the amount of GDP produced per worker. Since employment is falling in the U.S. and GDP is supposedly rising (the two moving in opposite directions is illogical) productivity has to go up.
According to the government, it is going up a huge amount. Is there any major new technological advance or innovation accounting for this? None, that anyone knows about.
  • Economists claim that productivity has gotten better because the least productive workers have been fired. While this might give the numbers a percentage or so boost, it wouldn't give them an 8% boost.
  • The alternative explanation is that GDP is being grossly overstated by the U.S. government. There is substantial documentation that this has indeed been the case for the last three decades.
  • Same store sales is not a government report and the November numbers clearly show an economy in trouble. Sales were down 0.3% year over year.
  • While this may not seem so bad initially, it is when you consider sales were down 7.7% last November, which was the height of the Credit Crisis meltdown.
  • They are even lower now.

Analysts (who are almost always wrong) originally forecast a 5% to 8% increase for this November. Consumer spending accounts for 72% of U.S. economic activity and is still obviously in bad shape.

  • Yet, the government tells us that GDP is growing nicely. There seems to be a contradiction there.
  • If you read the mainstream media coverage of the weekly jobless claims you would have seen that the U.S. employment situation is getting better because there were only 457,000 new claims during the week of Thanksgiving.
  • Of course, you might consider that few employers would lay off workers right before a major holiday and that state unemployment offices were closed because of the holiday, so this would obviously lower claims. The BLS (Bureau of Labor Statistics) states that they make some 'adjustments' for this though. Claims at even the 400,000 level indicate significant recession and they need to drop to the 300,000 level to indicate a healthy economy (you will see much higher numbers cited in most mainstream media reporting).
  • Continuing claims are still rising and have hit 5.5 million.
  • This number doesn't include an additional 4.5 million on extended umemployment benefits.
A large percentage of the American work force is not eligible to collect unemployment as is, so the numbers are even worse than they appear.
  • While there are those who claim that unemployment is a lagging indicator, statistics from the past don't support this notion.
  • The real lagging indicator seems to be the truth about what is really going on in the economy.
Buying A New Car??
Here's five things the dealer will try to suck you into buying; most have little value to the consumer:
1. Extended Warranties Extra piece of mind? Buying an extended warranty is more like duplication of expense. Most current new vehicles' warranty will out-live your ownership!! Remember: Always say no. More from U.S. News & World Report » Best Car Deals for December » How to Test Drive a Car 2. Fabric and Paint Protection Stain protection for your seats and floors can cost hundreds of dollars at the dealership. Scotchgard Auto Interior Fabric Protector is available at Wal-Mart or Target (around $10 for a 10-ounce can), and it accomplishes virtually the same thing as what the dealer provides. Another typical dealer extra, Paint Protection, won’t accomplish much more than a good coat of wax will. Again, you can apply this yourself by picking up polymer sealant car wax at the auto parts store. Remember that your car already comes with a good coat of sealant from the factory, so you only need to apply wax about once a year. 3. Rustproofing Unless you plan on keeping your car for decades, you won’t need any extra rustproofing. Modern vehicles are built to withstand rust.
4. Maintenance Plans A maintenance program covers fluid changes and other regular maintenance items as part of your monthly car payment. You will have to take your car to the dealership for service. Note that during negotiations, you might even be able to convince the dealer to throw in a maintenance plan for free. 5. Ding Protection Ding Protection covers the cost of fixing small dents and scratches (often less than four inches long) for a set period of time. Unless you repeatedly ram your new car with shopping carts, this program will have little or no value.
More Unbelieveable obamacRAT Bullshit!!!
This global-warming thingie.....
***It's nothing more than a hoax designed to create hysteria, whereby lining more and more "Ruling Class" pockets!! You may remember when algore was "Slick-Willie's" president-of-vice?? He used that position as well as his senatorial experience to perfect "taking liberties with the truth!!"
Now comes "The Big Release!"
***Somebody had a change-of-heart and couldn't continue promoting the "global warming" hoax. Someone anonymously released 1,079 e-mails, 72 documents, 61 megabytes of confidential files onto the internet. This information came from the University of East Anglia’s Climate Research Unit in England. ***The most damning is a long series of communications discussing how best to squeeze dissenting scientists out of the peer review process. These e-mails show disturbing patterns of “conspiracy, collusion in exaggerating warming data, possibly illegal destruction of embarrassing information, organized resistance to disclosure, manipulation of data, private admissions of flaws in their public claims and much more,” says Australian Sun’s Andrew Bolt. ***Man-made global warming hysteria has long been fueled by people using junk science, fear and hyperbole to support an agenda that they personally profit from. The truth is that the average global temperature has fallen since 1998. ***The leading profiteering propagandist is algore. After losing the presidential election in 2000, he became the leader of the hysteria movement. However, this “Eco-Prophet” has hidden a few inconvenient truths of his own. He just happens to be involved with a venture capital firm and stands to personally profit billions of dollars if Cap-and-Trade becomes law. Reports state that algore’s net worth now stands at $100 Million, when it was $2 million when he left politics. He’s laughing all the way to the bank. algore has a history of playing loose with the facts. ***Recently on TV, while discussing geothermal energy, algore made the outrageous claim that “the interior of the earth is extremely hot, several million degrees.” However, the actual temperature here on earth is between 5,000 and 9,000 degrees. If Sarah Palin had made this gaffe, the media would have ridiculed her as stupid. ***Speaking of hypocrisy, algore is a living embodiment of it. As he lectures the world on energy use, and lobbies the Congressional Moron Caucus, to regulate productive American companies out of business, algore consumes more than twenty times more energy than the average American, according to the Tennessee Center for Policy Research. This doesn’t count the energy consumption of his jet. ***algore’s “Inconvenient Truth” is full of instances where he plays loose with the facts. A 2007 British court ruled that algore’s film has nine significant refutable errors. These are examples of algore’s scare tactics to induce the public to take radical action (to his financial benefit). *** Professor Richard Lindzen of MIT wrote about scientists being "in the crosshairs" of algore, who "tried to bully" them into changing "their views and supporting his climate alarmism." Lindzen also refers to a failed algore effort to "enlist Ted Koppel (then a TV host) in a witch hunt to discredit anti-alarmist scientists." ***When one side tries to shut another side out of the debate, it is typically because they feel their arguments won’t stand up to scrutiny. These propagandists use various tactics. A favorite is to make people feel guilty if they don’t jump on the “green” bandwagon, and those who do are praised for helping the environment. ***With the Copenhagen meetings here, expect to see “green” propaganda exponentially increasing. Open your eyes to these manipulators of data and people, who while acting like do-gooders, see great (green as in money) gain.
***Even as this egregious hoax is being perpetrated on the American public, the "Clown Prince has the balls to go to Copenhagen to promote it!! It's no wonder he's for it-the many "Ruling Class" gangsters will profit, like himself, Michelle "The Chin" obama, Barney Frank, harry reid, nancy porklosi, Chuckie-Cheese Schumer, Max Baucus and his boinkette, Chris Dodd and the list goes on.... and on..... and on..... and on.... and on.... and on....

This'n'That; December 7th[PearlHarbor;obamaCare;Baucus]

December 7th, 1941....
As President Roosevelt said, this day did "go down in infamy!!" The Japanese surprise attack on US naval and air forces in the Hawaiian Islands precipitated the US entry into World War II. War was declared upon Japan the day after the attack; declared upon Germany on December 11, 1941-in response to the German declaration of war upon the US, issued the same day.
The Pearl Harbor attack inflicted 2,403 killed; 1,178 wounded; 20 ships sunk or severely damaged; 169 aircraft destroyed.
Though there's not many left, today is the day to honor Pearl Harbor Attack veterans and all veterans whose efforts insured our freedoms reign supreme!!
That "Ruling Class"....Ya Gotta Love 'em!!
If they passed the bill, Democrats would be "rewarded in '10, and in 10 years, in 20 years, in 30 and 40," Baucus said. "Nothing's more important." This quote by obamacRATic Senator Max Baucus clearly indicates that he believes the American voter will continue to return these "ruling class" scum-bags to "their rightful place in the hallowed halls!!"
Now is the time for the republicRATs to figuratively "jump in the middle of thier chests" and verbally kick the shit outta them!!! But, what do they do...... issue statements like this one below by Senator Mitch McConnell, the minority leader:
"obamacRATs are trying to squeeze every single one of their members to swallow a pretty bitter pill for the American people," said McConnell, who repeated RepublicRATs' suggestions that the bill will lead to higher taxes, higher insurance premiums and weaker Medicare programs.
What Mister McConnell might have considered is something more strongly worded: "Listen here, Skippy..... You obamacRATs have done nothing but lie to the American people since the first day of both obamaCare and Cap-and-Tax." He might well have added: "Rather than demand control over 18% of the national economy; demand rather that the health care insurance industry be reformed. This will cover as many or more Americans with far less expense and little added federal control."
AND:
"Now that global warning has all-but-declared an official HOAX, when can we expect the obamacRATs to initiate hearings on the e-mails that revealed it as a hoax??"
A "Ruling Class" Boinker...
I'm a firm believer that folks can live any way they want, so long as all are agreed. I also believe that members of the "Ruling Class" should be above reproach..... Is Senator Baucus?? Nominating one's "main-squeeze" to a federal post is not above reproach. This is a guy Americans may well entrust their health and prosperity to:

Max Baucus, chairman of the powerful Senate Finance Committee, recommended that the White House nominate his girlfriend as a U.S. attorney in Montana, his office announced late Friday night.

Earlier this year, Baucus recommended that the White House consider Melodee Hanes and two other names for the U.S. attorney post--at the same time the senator was boinking Hanes, who had been his state director!! The two are now divorced from their spouses and shacking-up on Capitol Hill.

"Clown Prince" Weekly Blather; December 5, 2009

A Patriotic Response to the "Clown Prince" 12/05/2009 Every month since January, when I became your President, I’ve spoken to you about the periodic reports of the Labor Department on the number of jobs created or lost during the previous month; numbers that tell a story about how America’s economy is faring overall. In those first months, the numbers were nothing short of devastating. The worst recession since the 1930s had wreaked havoc on the lives of so many of our fellow Americans. Yesterday, the numbers released by the Labor Department reflected a continuing positive trend of diminishing job loss. [What I'm not telling you: As we bask in the most recent unemployment numbers, we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that they will most probably be revised upward. Practically every month I arrange for the least offensive numbers to be released; then, after everyone's comfortable with that-the true number will be released with much less fanfare!!] But for those who were laid off last month and the millions of Americans who have lost their jobs in this recession, a good trend isn’t good enough. Trends don’t buy the groceries. Trends don’t pay the rent or a college tuition. Trends don’t fulfill the need within each of us to be productive, to provide for our families, to make the most of our lives, to reach for our dreams. [What I'm not telling you: This unemployment thing..... that's working to benefit my ultimate plan. Other than what he ordered.... how much ingenuity and inventiveness took place in Hitler's Germany? NONE!! That's how fascism works; take away all incentive to produce; to be successful-the public will eventually gravitate toward the federal largess. For instance, the State of New York provides the usual 26 weeks of unemployment benefits. To advance my fascist principles, I've demanded 67 weeks of additional benefits. That makes a total of 93 weeks or 23-1/4 months or just short of two years!! I'm guessin' that after sittin' on their asses for two years, there's not gonna' be alotta incentive to find work..... so there starts the upward spiral in welfare and SSI rolls!!!! {My VOTER BASE!!}] So, it is true that we, as a country, are in a very different place than we were when 2009 began. Because of the Recovery Act and a number of other steps we’ve taken, we’re no longer facing the potential collapse of our financial system or a second Great Depression. We’re no longer losing jobs at a rate of 700,000 a month. And our economy’s growing for the first time in a year. But too many of our neighbors are still out of work because the growth we’ve seen hasn’t yet translated into all the jobs we need. Stung by this brutal recession, businesses that have kept their doors open are still wary about adding workers. Instead of hiring, many are simply asking their employees to work more hours, or they’re adding temporary help. [What I'm not telling you: That "...in a very different place...." thingie..... That's completely by design. I can't control the American worker unless I can control the American economy, and I've done just that!! The "slush fund" I scammed the Congressional Moron Caucus to pass into law is the linch-pin to economic control. I've managed to take control of 60-70% of US auto manufacturing capacity along with closing 100+ banks per month and controlling the financial sector at every turn. At the outset, I ordered the "pay czar" to quietly concentrate on investment sector salaries and bonuses--which he did with more success than I had envisioned!! I had expected alot more resistance from the public, but this "class-warfare" attitude is something I hadn't thought through, but I appreciate the public's help with it!! Thank Muhammud, this era of greed has the public electing ever greater morons to Congress!! That Blanche Lincoln.... now there's one of Arkansas' finest morons since the Clinton family!!! She's proposed an obamaCare amendment to stifle health care insurance industry's executive pay!! There'll be some "slush" funds coming her way in the future.] History tells us this is usually what happens with recessions – even as the economy grows, it takes time for jobs to follow. But the folks who have been looking for work without any luck for months and, in some cases, years, can’t wait any longer. For them, I’m determined to do everything I can to accelerate our progress so we’re actually adding jobs again. That’s why, this week, I invited a group of business owners from across the country to the White House to talk about additional steps we can take to help jumpstart hiring. We brought together unions and universities to talk about what we can do to support our workers today and prepare our students to outcompete workers around the world tomorrow. We brought together mayors and community leaders to talk about how we can open up new opportunities in our cities and towns. [What I'm not telling you: History has certainly told us what happens when a president uses economic downfall to his advantage: Roosevelt's depression era "alphabet programs" paid off his supporters handsomely!! And.... he managed to drag that economic calamity out as far as possible... 'til those dam' European and Asian dictators got in the way by starting World War Two. Without WWII, FDR might have accomplished what I INTEND TO: an American fascist regime that will live far into the future!!] On Friday, I spent the day in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and met with workers and small business owners there. I stopped by a steel company called Allentown Metal Works, and spoke at Lehigh Community College. I visited folks at a job placement center, and stopped by a shift change at Alpo. The stories and concerns I heard mirrored the countless letters I receive every single day. And they speak louder than any statistic or government report. The folks in Allentown – and in all the Allentowns across our country – are the most dedicated, productive workers in the world. All they’re asking for is a chance, and a fair shake. And that’s exactly what I’m working to give them. In the coming days, I’ll be unveiling additional ideas aimed at accelerating job growth and hiring as we emerge from this economic storm. [What I'm not telling you: That "jobs summit" and the Allentown photo-op.... You bought that load'a shit, "hook-line-and-sinker!!" The photo-op was especially productive; I got my picture taken at at least 4 or 5 times with the serfs, and all I had to do was introduce the local and congressional morons in attendance and give the audience the standard "bullshit speech." And so that we don’t face another crisis like this again, I’m determined to meet our responsibility to do what we know will strengthen our economy in the long-run. That’s why I’m not going to let up in my efforts to reform our health care system; to give our children the best education in the world; to promote the jobs of tomorrow and energy independence by investing in a clean energy economy; and to deal with the mounting federal debt. From the moment I was sworn into office, we have taken a number of difficult steps to end this economic crisis. We didn’t take them because they were popular or gratifying. They weren’t. We took these steps because they were necessary. [What I'm not telling you: I'm determined to strengthen the world-wide economy at the expense of the American economy. I intend to do that with a greater exportation of jobs, this time to our Asian brothers and sisters. China and the other fascist countries have policies and programs already in place to insure that the serf class achieves very little benefit by the influx of formerly American jobs. My czars and I have already entered into "under-the-table" talks to institute a NAFTA-type agreement with those Asian countries who agree to foster my plans and vision. {Here's something the American serf class isn't truely aware of: Actual "treaties with foreign governments" must be approved by a two-thirds vote of the Senate morons, whereas an "agreement" is between me, my czars and the foreign power we're relinquishing assets to} On the "off-chance" the congressional morons chose to represent their constituency, there's nothing they can do about an "agreement!!"]. But I didn’t run for President to pass emergency recovery programs, or to bail out banks or to shore up auto companies. I didn’t run for President simply to manage the crisis of the moment, while kicking our most pressing problems down the road. I ran for President to help hardworking families succeed and to stand up for the embattled middle class. I ran to fight for a country where responsibility is still rewarded, and hard-working people can get ahead. I ran to keep faith with the sacred American principle that we will deliver to our children a future of even greater possibility. [What I'm not telling you: I was primarily up for president as a "throw-away" candidate; the party put me up to cause disfunction in the election's "primary" system. But, as luck would have it; enough welfare-RATs and KoolAid Drinkers believed that "hope-and-change" bullshit to actually get me elected!! {How stupid were they?!?!} So, the first few months-when I was "giddy with success," my decisions were all-over-the-map!! Now that I've become accustomed to the trappings of the ruling class, I'm settling down to formulate a plan to continue the devistation promulgated by my predessor. That "....future of even greater possibility...??" I've pretty-much quashed that by design.] And my commitment to you, the American people, is that I will focus every single day on how we can get people back to work, and how we can build an economy that continues to make real the promise of America for generations to come. [What I'm not telling you: This last paragraph?? Don't put too much stock in it ever happenin'!! I've contacted the KoolAid media and the Congressional Moron Caucus to ensure that no one starts a "count-down clock" as to when I put forth ways to increase employment. So, until next time, go collect your government payments; be sure to tell 'um "thanks!".... after all, it's "the government's money!!"]

Are the "KoolAiders" finally 'seeing the light?'
What's Up With That "Nobel Peace Prize" Crap?
Yup!! The "Clown Prince" was awarded the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize-but WHY??? The guy doesn't understand the "peace" concept.
This is a guy who campaigned on "hope-and-change" from a peace perspective; that President Bush was and is a war-monger; that the troop surge in Iraq wouldn't work-is now admitting, by his decisions, that Mister Bush is one of the greatest military strategists since General Eisenhower!!!
  • By definition, Fluffy obama's strategy is that of an inexperienced, blundering, dithering, blathering professional politician: Rather than send the number of troops the commander said was needed, he's sending about half....... and dribbling them out over a year!!
  • Historically, military strategy is to avoid war at all costs!! If the country is unable to do that; the next best thing is to "break more opponent's shit" than your opponent breaks of yours; "kill more of the opposition" than your opponents do!!
  • George Bush's strategy was to stay in Iraq until the military objectives were met. The troop surge was necessary to accomplish his goals.
  • Fluffy obama's strategy is to hog-tie the military hierarchy in-country, and then to pull out of Afganistan in nineteen months!!
  • Again, I ask WHY? If Fluffy is committing less than the required number of troops, for a defined period of time, without a military goal in mind-then why even send the "surge" troops?? If Fluffy is pulling them out at a pre-determined point on the calendar, why send them at all?? Why not pull out the troops currently there and let the 'stanis fail on their own??
Again, I ask WHY?? Why does Fluffy continue to "consume oxygen" when anyone else can make better use of it??
....And You Thought Only "Wall St" Pay....??
[What the Ruling Class is doing, over and above controlling executive compensation, is stifling the American desire for success; American ingenuity; American exceptionalism; American entrepreneurial spirit!!! It's nothing about healthcare......it's all about CONTROL, whether that control is of money, individual spirit, success, IT'S STILL CONTROL!!! This is exactly the same conditions that the Founding Fathers rebelled against.]
Ruling Class obamacRATs will offer an amendment this weekend to curb the pay of executives at health insurance companies that benefit from federal subsidies, fueling the growing feud with the powerful industry. The Moron Caucus members Blanche Lincoln (d-Ark.), Frank Lautenberg (d-N.J.) and Robert Menendez (d-N.J.) have sponsored an amendment that would:
  • prohibit health insurance companies from deducting more than $400,000 in executive compensation per individual.
  • The cap would apply to companies that earned 25 percent or more of their income from Americans who buy insurance from government-created exchanges.
  • The Ruling Class will debate the measure Saturday morning and is expected to vote on it around 3 p.m.
Fluffy obama and Moron Caucus obamacRATs started the healthcare debate earlier this year by forming a tentative truce with the insurance industry but that now appears finished. obamacRATic rhetoric against the insurance industry has become increasingly critical as the debate has progressed.
Ruling Class potentate Harry Reid (d-Nev.) pushed a proposal to revoke the anti-trust exemption that health insurance companies have enjoyed since the mid-1940s. Reid later chickened out and didn't include the provision in the Senate healthcare bill.
Other obamacRATs have set their sights on the profitable industry as lawmakers look for innovative ways to curb healthcare costs and avoid the perception that the pending Ruling Class legislation amounts to a massive giveaway to healthcare companies. Some fascist critics charge the legislation would not do enough to curb the excesses of health insurance companies, especially if it does not include a government-run insurance program.
“By eliminating an enormous tax deduction that allows insurance companies to line the pockets of their executives, this proposal will raise about $651 million over the next 10 years, which will be required to go toward the Medicare trust fund,” Lincoln told reporters Friday afternoon.
Lincoln noted that "if" healthcare reform legislation becomes law, insurance companies would receive millions of new customers. “Our amendment will make sure that premiums these new enrollees are spent on better care and not executive salaries,” she said.
Lincoln on Friday reiterated her opposition to the public option, which some fascist obamacRATs believe is essential to prevent the bill from becoming a multi-billion dollar giveaway to the insurance industry. “I’ve been very clear, I don’t support a public option that is government-funded or government-run that puts the taxpayer at risk in the long run,” Lincoln said.

This'n'That; December 4th[Jobs;HOAX]

The "Clown Prince" Jobs Summit Farce
"Barry-the-Clown" happily dances from one farce to another!! While tooting the horn at his waist as he tweaks his bulbous red nose, he's hopping from his grossly expensive obamaCare to Cap-and-Tax to this latest joke: the jobs summit. Not only did this fool host the summit, he purposely ignored what should have been the primary participants; The U.S. Chamber of Commerce; members of the American manufacturing base, puny as it is; the Congressional Budget Office [tax-cut issues]. Maybe even invite a couple members of the "serf-class," you and I!! Maybe invite some suggestions from the public, like these:
  • 1. Eliminate the Capital Gains Tax for companies that create jobs based on a pre-set formula.
  • 2. Reduce corporate income taxes based on a "jobs" formula, and raise taxes on wildly high salaries and incentives. After a half-million in income, tax remainder at 95%!!
  • 3. Massive tax incentives for companies who bring "out sourced" foreign jobs back home.
  • 4. Tax penalties for corporations based on the number of jobs "out sourced" to foreign counties.
  • 5. Put the "hard green" dogma/agenda in the trash bin. It hampers productivity and competition, resulting in higher expense and lower employment.
  • 6. Forget National Health Care. Merely subsidize low income families, remove the insurance industries exclusion of persons "pre-existing conditions" and government pays a portion of those claims. Hog tie the trial lawyers. and allow a free market interstate insurance market. There's no need to dismantle the whole machine and raise everyone's taxes to fix a few glitches.
  • 7. Start drilling off shore-Tweak shale oil technology. Stop tearing down damns for fish, and fast track nuclear plants. Low cost energy is a must for production. Stop supporting the global warming HOAX!!
  • 8. Stop the ethanol fiasco - families need less expensive food - not more expensive fuel.
  • 9. Cut government red tape to the bone from the city to the federal level. Government needs to "re-learn" common sense and judgment. Stop micro-managing and creating roadblocks over insignificant issues. We're in an economic war - Get a move on!
  • 10. Close that southern border! Deport those who are here less than 5 years. Fine the Hell out of companies who hire illegals.
  • 11. A fifty percent [50%] tax cut for ALL AMERICANS. Not only as an incentive to spend, it will be an incentive to invest!!
In opening remarks at his national jobs summit, Fluffy obama noted that unemployed Americans are missing out on a lot more than income. “They haven’t just lost the paycheck they need to live,” obama said, “they’re losing the sense of identity and dignity that they get from having a job.”
Is the Fluffy close to alienating his "welfare-RAT/KoolAid drinkin' " base??
Primary HOAX Promoter Reneges!!
James Hansen, a leading climate scientist who was influential in convincing the world to take notice of global warming, says this month's climate summit in Copenhagen is on "a disaster track," The Guardian reports. Despite believing climate change is a serious danger, Hansen said that it will be better for the world if the Copenhagen meeting ends in collapse."The whole approach is so fundamentally wrong that it is better to reassess the situation. If it is going to be the Kyoto-type thing, then [people] will spend years trying to determine exactly what that means," Hansen said, referring to the Kyoto Protocol, which has had little effect since being ratified by many nations in 1997. Hansen said the issue requires much more drastic measures, and that he has no patience for the compromise mentality that characterizes world leaders' deliberations. "This is analogous to the issue of slavery faced by Abraham Lincoln or the issue of Nazism faced by Winston Churchill," he said. "On those kind of issues you cannot compromise. You can't say, let's reduce slavery, let's find a compromise and reduce it 50 percent or reduce it 40 percent." Hansen says he was spurred to move from scientist to activist during the Bush administration, and has repeatedly testified before Congress and spoken throughout the United States about the threat of climate change. He calls the Obama administration's policies on the issue "half-assed."
