This'n'That; April Fifth #3; 'Pearls'

Mid-West 'Pearls' Of Wisdom
After more than a year, the 'Young Miss Lovely' and I are still in the process of cleaning, organizing and updating my late mother-in-law's apartment.  On occasion, I run across books and other stuff of interest.  The latest is a book: Midwest Wisdom by Patrick Caton.  I shall excerpt from it, from time to time. To wit:
  • "Democracy is based on the conviction that man has the moral and intellectual capacity, as well as the inalienable right, to govern himself with reason and justice." -Harry S. Truman
  • "Some women.... believe that concepts such as power and ambition are inconsistent with the mission of guiding their steps and their conscience.  Over the years, though, women have come to realize that power is a positive force if it's used for positive purposes." -Elizabeth H. Dole
  • "It is understanding that gives us an ability to have peace.  When we understand the other fellow's viewpoint, and he understands ours, then we can sit down and work out our differences." -Harry S. Truman
  • "Apply yourself.  Get all the education you can, but then, by God, do something.  Don't just stand there; make it happen." -Lee Iococca
  • "I want to do it because I want to do it.  Women must try to do things as men have tried.  When they fail, their failure must be but a challenge to others." -Amelia Earhart
