Nope!! The "Clown Prince" DID NOT order Government Motors to pull the plug on the non-selling, non-fireproof, non-electrically efficient Chevy Volt. Instead he ordered his car company to stop funding that evil Heartland Institute.
Actually I shall endeavor to be far more honest than "Clown Prince ZERO-bama, the Narcissist" HAS EVER BEEN. This push to discredit The Heartland Institute originated at the George Soros-funded MoveOn.org, to the MoveOn-created 'Citizens Engagement Lab,' to 350.org. These last two entities collaborated to create 'Forecast the Facts' as a 'front-group' to discredit said institute.
The Heartland Institute published a reply to the 'Forecast the Facts' clowns (my words, not the Institute's!), from whence I quote:
The campaign actually started on February 14, 2012, when Peter Gleick, president of the Pacific Institute and a leading climate scientist, sent to liberal activists and sympathetic journalists several documents he stole from The Heartland Institute, along with a fake memo he claimed was also from Heartland.
The phony memo was picked up by several publications--some liberal, some not--and published as 'fact.' Some finally wised up and exposed the whole scam for what it is:
The fake memo, titled "January 2012 Confidential Memo: 2012 Heartland Climate Strategy," is a mixture of text copied-and-pasted from the stolen documents and original commentary by the forger. By distorting and misrepresenting the plans set forth in the stolen documents, the fake memo paints a false and disturbing picture of Heartland's motives and tactics.
One of the international pamphleteers who woke up to the truth:
James Delingpole, a columnist for the London Telegraph, dubbed the episode "Fakegate." The title has stuck, and now Heartland has a web site at www.fakegate.org that reports the latest developments in the Peter Gleick global warming scandal.
In conclusion, there's no reason for George Soros--through owe-bama--to force Government Motors to defund The Heartland Institute other than:
George Soros fears a loss of personal power and control through a probable "Clown Prince" defeat, and
George Soros is making many, many all-out efforts at propping up the owe-bama voter base--that portion NOT suckling at the government tit--of which this is but one!

Good morning, everybody. Lately, I’ve been speaking a lot about our need for an all-of-the-above strategy for American energy -- a strategy that produces more oil and gas here at home, but also produces more biofuels and fuel-efficient cars, more solar power and wind power and other sources of clean, renewable energy. This strategy is not just the right thing to do for our long-term economic growth; it’s also the right way for us to reduce our dependence on foreign oil right now. It’s the right way for us to put people to work right now. And ultimately, it’s the right way to stop spikes in gas prices that we’ve put up [with] every single year -- the same kind of increase that we’ve seen over the past couple of months. Obviously rising gas prices means a rough ride for a lot of families. Whether you’re trying to get to school, trying to get to work, do some grocery shopping, you have to be able to fill up that gas tank. And there are families in certain parts of the country that have no choice but to drive 50 or 60 miles to get to the job. So when gas prices go up, it’s like an additional tax that comes right out of your pocket. That’s one of the reasons we passed a payroll tax cut at the beginning of this year and made sure it extended all the way through this year, so that the average American is getting that extra $40 in every paycheck right now. But I think everybody understands that there are no quick fixes to this problem. There are politicians who say that if we just drilled more then gas prices would come down right away. What they don’t say is that we have been drilling more. Under my administration, America is producing more oil than at any time in the last eight years. We’ve opened up new areas for exploration. We've quadrupled the number of operating rigs to a record high. We've added enough new oil and gas pipeline to circle the Earth and then some.
Being truthful, I--your exalted ruler--might have said: It's completely normal for gasoline price spikes in the spring each year as the refiners change from the winter blend to the summer blend. There's not much that can be done about this annual price spike. My continual push for more 'green energy' sources, i.e., wind, solar, biofuels, et al--there's a reason for that: funds are becoming more and more scarce to reward those who support my [in]action in various segments of the economy; to reward those who donate to my re-immaculation efforts; those who support said efforts.
While those forms of 'green energy' are noble endeavors, there's not been enough "R and D" put into the various accessorial aspects of each segments, like the batteries required for both solar and wind energy storage; for those highly expensive; highly explosive and flammable batteries required in vehicles like the government-promoted, produced Chevy Volt. Not only are the various aspects of "R and D" noticibly lacking, but so is consumer demand. Even with the $7,500 bribe required to sell even a minimal number of vehicles; said bribe is not enough to forestall a plant shutdown for six-weeks.
True! There currently is more oil being produced than at any time in the past eight years. What is not true is the public perception that the owe-bama Regime is responsible; the vast majority of authorized oil drilling and production are based on permits approved by that evil President George W. Bush!
But as I've said repeatedly, the problem is we use more than 20 percent of the world’s oil and we only have 2 percent of the world’s proven oil reserves. Even if we drilled every square inch of this country right now, we’d still have to rely disproportionately on other countries for their oil. That means we pay more at the pump every time there’s instability in the Middle East, or growing demand in countries like China and India.
That’s what’s happening right now. It’s those global trends that are affecting gas prices. So even as we're tackling issues of supply and demand, even as we're looking at the long-term in terms of how we can structurally make ourselves less reliant on foreign oil, we still need to work extra hard to protect consumers from factors that should not affect the price of a barrel of oil. That includes doing everything we can to ensure that an irresponsible few aren’t able to hurt consumers by illegally manipulating or rigging the energy markets for their own gain. We can't afford a situation where speculators artificially manipulate markets by buying up oil, creating the perception of a shortage, and driving prices higher -- only to flip the oil for a quick profit. We can’t afford a situation where some speculators can reap millions, while millions of American families get the short end of the stick. That’s not the way the market should work. And for anyone who thinks this cannot happen, just think back to how Enron traders manipulated the price of electricity to reap huge profits at everybody else’s expense.
Being truthful, I--your exalted ruler--might have said: The "20:2" statement I--your exalted ruler--continually refer to in relation to the nation's oil consumption is a complete and blatant lie!! Originally, my teleprompter-programmers entered the information incorrectly; since, we've decided that while a complete and blatant lie, it sounds good; it sounds like a plausible statistic. The applicable statistic is: We are 2% of the world's population; we consume 25% of the world's energy.
While neither I--your exalted ruler--nor anyone else in the owe-bama Regime can point to ANYONE who is an oil speculator, I--your exalted ruler--fully intend to vilify them in via the national pamphleteer 'corpse!!' Comparatively speaking there are far fewer oil 'speculators' than there are 'commodities traders' specializing in the oil sector. They have far more effect on the price of oil than a miniscule number of 'speculators.' The word: speculator is far more politically explosive than the phrase 'commodity trader!' Commodity traders actually provide price stabilazation as it relates to those segments of the economy who rely on vast amounts of fuel, for instance the trucking industry. That industry relies on their futures contracts to stabilize their fuel expense, going forward.
Essentially, fuel prices are determined by worldwide supply versus demand. As countries like China and India increase their demand, the price is driven up.... as it should be!! The United States' demand is far greater than it's domestic supply, thus we--those evil 'big oil' marketers--are forced to buy the shortfall amount on the world market. Simple as that! We discover new crude oil deposits almost every day! Were the EPA forced to relax both the drilling and the refinery permitting processes--keeping the environmental concerns in mind--the United States could--over the next several years--make vast gains in supplying domestic oil to the American market.
Now, the good news is my administration has already taken several actions to step up oversight of oil markets and close dangerous loopholes that were allowing some traders to operate in the shadows. We closed the so-called Enron loophole that let traders evade oversight by using electronic or overseas trading platforms. In the Wall Street reform law, we said for the first time that federal regulators will make sure no single trader can buy such a large position in oil that they could easily manipulate the market on their own. So I’d point out that anybody who’s pledging to roll back Wall Street reform -- Dodd-Frank -- would also roll back this vital consumer protection along with it. I’ve asked Attorney General Holder to work with Chairman Leibowitz of the Federal Trade Commission, Chairman Gensler of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and other enforcement agencies to make sure that acts of manipulation, fraud or other illegal activity are not behind increases in the price that consumers pay at the pump. So today, we’re announcing new steps to strengthen oversight of energy markets. Things that we can do administratively, we are doing. And I call on Congress to pass a package of measures to crack down on illegal activity and hold accountable those who manipulate the market for private gain at the expense of millions of working families. And be specific.

All my blather on the gas pump-price and how it got there; all my blather on the availability and cost of crude oil, is little more than election-year political posturing. Remember when I--your exalted ruler--was immaculated the national average was $1.83 PER GALLON; today it's $3.904 PER GALLON!! That's an increase of nearly 115%!!! The national average has MORE-THAN-DOUBLED during my reign!! The only answer for this increase is my complete lack of a logical domestic energy policy aside from solar, wind and biofuels!!!! Oh, and don't forget my desire to push the United States back into the 'dark ages,' economically!!
First, Congress should provide immediate funding to put more cops on the beat to monitor activity in energy markets. This funding would also upgrade technology so that our surveillance and enforcement officers aren’t hamstrung by older and less sophisticated tools than the ones that traders are using. We should strengthen protections for American consumers, not gut them. And these markets have expanded significantly. Chairman Gensler actually had a good analogy. He said, imagine if the NFL quadrupled the number of teams but didn’t increase the number of refs. You’d end up having havoc on the field, and it would diminish the game. It wouldn’t be fair. That’s part of what’s going on in a lot of these markets. So we have to properly resource enforcement.
Being truthful, I--your exalted ruler--might have said: More-and-more control of all aspects of American liberty; less-and-less allowable liberties!! The 'NFL analogy' is completely false: The NFL has ESTABLISHED RULES; the players, coaches and owners are expected to follow those ESTABLISHED RULES. If they violate said ESTABLISHED RULES, they are fined or otherwise punished!! In my socio-fascist scheme-of-things, there are few ESTABLISHED RULES, and those few are enforced on a case-by-case basis, depending on whether a negro is the defendent; the perpetrator, or not.
Second, Congress should increase the civil and criminal penalties for illegal energy market manipulation and other illegal activities. So my plan would toughen key financial penalties tenfold, and impose these penalties not just per violation, but for every day a violation occurs.
Being truthful, I--your exalted ruler--might have said: I've asked 'General' holder: "Will these possible increased civil and criminal penalties be enforced without the "involved-negro" rule?!? Hey, I'm jis askin'!! These will remain ficticious accusations, charges, penalties if--in the upcoming months--we're still unable to point to an actual 'oil speculator!'
Third, Congress should give the agency responsible for overseeing oil markets new authority to protect against volatility and excess speculation by making sure that traders can post appropriate margins, which simply means that they actually have the money to make good on their trades.

Congress should do all of this right away. A few weeks ago, Congress had a chance to stand up for families already paying an extra premium at the pump; congressional Republicans voted to keep spending billions of Americans' hard-earned tax dollars on more unnecessary subsidies for big oil companies. So here's a chance to make amends, a chance to actually do something that will protect consumers by increasing oversight of energy markets. That should be something that everybody, no matter their party, should agree with. And I hope Americans will ask their members of Congress to step up. In the meantime, my administration will take new executive actions to better analyze and investigate trading activities in energy markets and more quickly implement the tough consumer protections under Wall Street reform. Let me close by saying none of these steps by themselves will bring gas prices down overnight. But it will prevent market manipulation and make sure we're looking out for American consumers. And in the meantime we're going to keep pursuing an all-of-the-above strategy for American energy to break the cycle of price spikes year after year. We are going to keep producing more biofuels; we're going to keep producing more fuel-efficient cars; we are going to keep tapping into every source of American-made energy. And these steps have already helped put America on a path to greater energy independence. Our foreign -- our dependence on foreign oil has actually decreased each year I've been in office -- even as the economy has grown. America now imports less than half of the oil we use for the first time in more than a decade. So we are less vulnerable than we were, but we're still too vulnerable. We've got to continue the hard, sustained work on this issue. And as long as I'm President we're going to keep placing our bets on America's future -- America's workers, America's technology, America's ingenuity, and American-made energy. That's how we're going to solve this problem once and for all.

Every one costs the American taxpayer far more than they currently realize in monetary gains! The consumer is either forced to purchase--"e-10; e-15" ring a bell?--or must be bribed to buy, i.e., the $7,500-$10,000 bribe to purchase the Chevy Volt!!
In conclusion, this is election-year political posturing, political obfuscation-of-the-truth, plain-and-simple!! The obama-boobs at "CREEP" [Committee to RE-Elect the President] are completely flummoxed by the ongoing polling results. They've never had to imbrace any negative aspects during their campaigns. The money has fallen off; even some "Big Hollywood" types are 'checking their wallets at the door.'

Our foreign -- our dependence on foreign oil has actually decreased each year I've been in office -- even as the economy has grown. America now imports less than half of the oil we use for the first time in more than a decade. So we are less vulnerable than we were, but we're still too vulnerable. We've got to continue the hard, sustained work on this issue. And as long as I'm President we're going to keep placing our bets on America's future -- America's workers, America's technology, America's ingenuity, and American-made energy. That's how we're going to solve this problem once and for all.
Being truthful, I--your exalted ruler--might have said: These on-going--incessant--attacks on 'Big Oil' are both mindless and meaningless!! Just another example of socio-fascist "S & M:" smoke-and-mirrors!!

4. The ongoing production of bio-fuels, energy efficient vehicles, hybrid and electric vehicles.... all require vast federal subsidies--not the kind 'Big Oil' has--actual cash grants!! Every one costs the American taxpayer far more than they currently realize in monetary gains! The consumer is either forced to purchase--"e-10; e-15" ring a bell?--or must be bribed to buy, i.e., the $7,500-$10,000 bribe to purchase the Chevy Volt!!
In conclusion, this is election-year political posturing, political obfuscation-of-the-truth, plain-and-simple!! The obama-boobs at "CREEP" [Committee to RE-Elect the President] are completely flummoxed by the ongoing polling results. They've never had to imbrace any negative aspects during their campaigns. The money has fallen off; even some "Big Hollywood" types are 'checking their wallets at the door.'

Is this a 'less-than-sane' attempt by "Turbin Durbin" to replace "Hairplug" joe biden as the number-two miscreant on the Fall owe-bamacRATic ticket?!? He's making "Plug-esque" statements to illustrate his--and "Hairplug's"--failing grasp on reality!

Now, I just finished learning about some of the work that you’re doing here at this community college to make sure that homes are using less energy, and helping folks save money on their heating and their air-conditioning bills. And I was very impressed. I’m even more impressed because I know this program is giving a lot of people a chance to make a decent living -- everyone from veterans to folks with disabilities to folks who’ve just been down on their luck but want to work. So I want you to know how proud I am of this program, of this institution, of all of you. The skills that you gain here at this community college will be the surest path to success in this economy. Because if there’s one thing that we’re thinking about a lot these days, is, first of all, how do we make sure that American workers have the skills and education they need to be able to succeed in this competitive global economy? And community colleges all across the country and all across Maryland are doing an outstanding job providing young people that first opportunity after high school but also helping older workers retrain for the jobs of the future because the economy is constantly adapting. So community colleges are big. Community colleges are critical to our long-term success. What’s also critical to our long-term success is the question of energy: How do we use less energy? How do we produce more energy right here in the United States of America?
I have mixed emotions coming here today. On the positive side, I so enjoy coming to community colleges; I don't have to sound very smart to impress the student audience. Another positive is that the student body are usually in their teens and as such, are highly impressionable, they believe all the crap I feed them. On the negative side, this school is in Maryland, just outside the District of Corruption. With the school being that close, I don't have to use Air Force One and that's a dam' shame. The taxpayers fund all my travel--even all those illegal campaign charges I write off to them--but coming here is just a short helicopter ride. Actually it takes three helicopters for all the Secret Service protection and one just hauls all the sound crap and teleprompters. I can't speak without them!!
I have found though, that many students don't belong in a community college. They'd fare far better if they were in a high-quality trade school. The great demand for the future will be in the trades. We have far more lawyers, economists, professional lobbyists and professional, career politicians than we'll ever need in the foreseeable future!!
And I know this is an especially important topic for everybody right now because you guys have to fill up at the gas station. And it’s rough. Gas prices and the world oil markets right now are putting a lot of pressure on families right now. And one of the things that is important to remember is for a lot of folks, just doing what you have to do to get your kids to school, to get to the job, to do grocery shopping -- you don’t have an option. You’ve got to be able to fill up that gas tank. And when prices spike on the world market, it’s like a tax, it’s like somebody is going into your pocket. We passed the payroll tax at the beginning of this year to make sure that everybody had an extra $40 in their paycheck, on average in part because we anticipated that gas prices might be going up like they did last year, given tight world oil supplies. But that doesn’t make it easier for a lot of families out there that are just struggling to get by. This is tough. Now, the question is, how do we meet this challenge? Because right now we’re starting to see a lot of politicians talking a lot but not doing much. And we’ve seen this movie before. Gas prices went up around this time last year. Gas prices shot up in the spring and summer of 2008 -- I remember, I was running for President at the time. This has been going on for years now. And every time prices start to go up -- especially in an election year -- politicians dust off their 3-point plans for $2.00 gas. I guess this year they decided, we're going to make it $2.50. I don't know where -- why not $2.40? Why not $2.10? But they tell the same story. They head down to the gas station; they make sure a few cameras are following them and then they start acting like we've got a magic wand and we will give you cheap gas forever if you just elect us. Every time. Been the same script for 30 years. It's like a bad rerun.
Now, here’s the thing -- because we've seen it all before, we know better. You know better. There is no such thing as a quick fix when it comes to high gas prices. There’s no silver bullet. Anybody who tells you otherwise isn’t really looking for a solution -- they’re trying to ride the political wave of the moment. Usually, the most common thing, when you actually ask them -- all right, how is it that you're going to get back to $2.00 a gallon gas, how are you going to do it, specifically, what is your plan -- then typically what you'll hear from them is, well, if we just drilled more for oil then gas prices would immediately come down and all our problems would go away. That's usually the response. Now, Maryland, there are two problems with that answer. First of all, we are drilling. Under my administration, America is producing more oil today than at any time in the last eight years. (Applause.) Any time. That's a fact. That's a fact. We’ve quadrupled the number of operating oil rigs to a record high. I want everybody to listen to that -- we have more oil rigs operating now than ever. That's a fact. We’ve approved dozens of new pipelines to move oil across the country. We announced our support for a new one in Oklahoma that will help get more oil down to refineries on the Gulf Coast. Over the last three years, my administration has opened millions of acres of land in 23 different states for oil and gas exploration. Offshore, I’ve directed my administration to open up more than 75 percent of our potential oil resources. That includes an area in the Gulf of Mexico we opened up a few months ago that could produce more than 400 million barrels of oil. So do not tell me that we’re not drilling. We’re drilling all over this country. I guess there are a few spots where we’re not drilling. We’re not drilling in the National Mall. We’re not drilling at your house. I guess we could try to have, like, 200 oil rigs in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay. Well, that’s the question. We are drilling at a record pace but we’re doing so in a way that protects the health and safety and the natural resources of the American people. So that’s point number one. If you start hearing this “drill, baby, drill; drill, drill, drill” -- if you start hearing that again, just remember you’ve got the facts -- we’re doing that. Tell me something new. That’s problem number one.
I'm really in an indefensible position, here. You've heard all those lies I've been peddling since fuel prices became the topic du' jour. There's alot more facts that I could spell out, but they're directly opposite of my public position. See, the first and foremost fact is the national average gas price is up over 105% since my immaculation, three LONG years ago. Additional national average diesel price is up 80++% since my immaculation.
I blather almost constantly about that 2% versus 20% lie. The actual phrase that was stolen from is:
"America has 5% of the population but use 24% of the world's energy." Of course, we had to tweak the numbers to make the consumption seem far worse than the rest of the planet. One point that's never mentioned: with the exception of my incredible borrowing and spending, all the energy consumed by the citizens of the United States is bought and paid for; nothing was stolen from the world's third-world ratholes as we socio-fascists would have you believe.
Those 'drilling' numbers I cite?!? Some guy in some broom-closet in MY barackingham Palace pulls them out of his ass!! The actual truth is the vast majority of working drilling sites were approved and permitted in the past 25 years or so, by Presidents Bush-41, "Slick-Willie" Clinton or President Bush-43. True, I opened up lots of federal lands to oil drilling.... but I forgot to mention that I very rarely approve a permit to actually start the drills turning!! Most of the drilling I refer to--that drilling I lead you to believe is taking place on federal lands--is taking place on private lands, sometimes in someone's front-yard!! Given the current--and ongoing--owe-bama Depression, most folks would relish having an oil rig in their yards.... just imagine the royalties they'd be receiving for every barrel pumped out of the ground.
Here’s the second problem with what some of these politicians are talking about. There’s a problem with a strategy that only relies on drilling and that is, America uses more than 20 percent of the world’s oil. If we drilled every square inch of this country -- so we went to your house and we went to the National Mall and we put up those rigs everywhere -- we’d still have only 2 percent of the world’s known oil reserves. Let’s say we miss something -- maybe it’s 3 percent instead of 2. We’re using 20; we have 2. Now, you don’t need to be getting an excellent education at Prince George’s Community College to know that we’ve got a math problem here. I help out Sasha occasionally with her math homework and I know that if you’ve got 2 and you’ve got 20, there’s a gap.
Do we have anybody who’s good at math here? Am I right? Okay.
So if we don’t develop other sources of energy, if we don’t develop the technology to use less energy to make our economy more energy-efficient, then we will always be dependent on foreign countries for our energy needs. And that means every time there’s instability in the Middle East, which is the main thing that’s driving oil prices up right now -- it’s the same thing that was driving oil prices up last year -- every time that happens, every time that there’s unrest, any time that there’s concern about a conflict, suddenly, oil futures shoot up, you’re going to feel it at the pump. It will happen every single time. We will not fully be in control of our energy future if our strategy is only to drill for the 2 percent but we still have to buy the 20 percent. And there’s another wrinkle to this -- other countries use oil, too. We’re not the only ones. So you’ve got rapidly-growing nations like China and India, and they’re all starting to buy cars. They’re getting wealthier. They want cars, too. And that means the price of gas will rise. Just to give you an example -- in 2010, China alone added 10 million new cars. That’s just in one year. And there are about a billion Chinese. So they’ve got a lot more people who are going to want cars in the future, which means they are going to want to get some of that oil and that will drive prices up. So we can’t just drill our way out of the problem. We are drilling, but it’s not going to solve our problem. That’s not the future I want for the United States of America. We can’t allow ourselves to be held hostage to events on the other side of the globe. That’s not who we are. America controls its own destiny. We’re not dependent on somebody else. So we can’t have an energy strategy for the last century that traps us in the past. We need an energy strategy for the future -- an all-of-the-above strategy for the 21st century that develops every source of American-made energy. Yes, develop as much oil and gas as we can, but also develop wind power and solar power and biofuels. Make our buildings more fuel-efficient. Make our homes more fuel-efficient. Make our cars and trucks more fuel-efficient so they get more miles for the gallon. That’s where I want to take this country. And here's -- the best part of it is thousands of Americans have jobs right now because we’ve doubled the use of clean energy in this country since I came into office. And I want to keep on making those investments. (Applause.) I don’t want to see wind turbines and solar panels and high-tech batteries made in other countries by other workers. I want to make them here. I want to make them here in Maryland. I want to make them here in the United States of America, with American workers. That's what I want. So when I came into office, we said, all right, how are we going to start moving America in that direction? It's not a thing you get done in one year, but how do we start moving in that direction? So after 30 years of not doing anything, we raised fuel economy standards on cars and trucks so that by the middle of the next decade, our cars will average nearly 55 miles per gallon -- that's double what we get today -- 55 miles per gallon. Fifty-five miles a gallon.
I have to apologize for this meaningless, unfactual blather.... it ain't my fault; nothing's ever my fault!! The teleprompter is programmed ahead of each blusterful blather; I just read what appears on the screen. We socio-facists are quick with 'the word,' but short with 'the facts!'
The "2%" I'm constantly referring to as if it were a 'cuss-word,' is a far cry from the truth. That "2%" is 22.3 billion barrels of proved oil reserves. "Proved oil reserves" as explained by my own Energy Information Administration (EIA), is a small subset of recoverable resources!! Ok--and George Soros is gonna get really pissed at me for this--let's look at all the oil reserves:
**22.3 bln barrels: those "2%" I blather about, HOURLY, per my own the EIA, and
**86 bln barrels in the Outer Continental Shelf, per my own Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, and
**24 bln barrels (shale deposits) in the 'lower-48,' per my own EIA, and
**2 bln barrels (shale deposits) in Alaska's 'North Slope,' per my own U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and
**12 bln barrels in the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), per my own USGS, and
**19 bln barrels in the Utah Tar Sands, per my own Bureau of Land Management, and
**1.4 TRILLION barrels in Wyoming's Green River Formation, per my own USGS.
Oh, but these are only estimates, you say!! How true, I say!!
Historically, federal agencies' estimates on anything are generally on the low side. As but one example, I cite North Dakota's Bakken Formation:
In 1995, the USGS estimated the total recoverable oil volume to be 151 million barrels.
In 2008, the USGS increased it's estimate to 3 billion to 4.3 billion barrels.
In 2011, oil analysists increased the estimate to 20 billion barrels.
The United States--by these totals--truely is awash in crude oil!!
So the young people here who were driving those beaters that getting 5 miles per gallon we're going to get you to 55. And that will save the average family more than $8,000 over the life of a car -- $8,000. That will help pay some bills. That means you’ll be able to fill up every two weeks instead of every week. And those are the cars we need to keep building here in the United States.
All right, so now, to fuel these cars and trucks, obviously if they're using less gas, that's great. That saves us; we're using less oil. But we also want to invest in clean advanced biofuels that can replace some of the oil that we're currently using. That's important. Already, we’re using these biofuels to power everything from city buses to UPS trucks to Navy ships. I want to see more of these fuels in American cars -- homegrown fuels -- because that means we're buying less oil from foreign countries and we're creating jobs here in the United States including big parts of rural America, big parts of rural Maryland, where the economy oftentimes is struggling and you have a real opportunity to create entire new industries and put people to work. And it's happening all across the country. So all of these steps have put us on a path of greater energy independence. Here's a statistic I want everybody to remember next time you're talking to somebody who doesn’t know what they're talking about. Since I took office, America’s dependence on foreign oil has gone down every single year. In 2010, our oil dependence, the amount that we're bringing in, the percentage we're bringing in, was under 50 percent for the first time in 13 years. We've got to do better than that, and we can do better than that.
But in order to do better than that, we've got to tell the folks who are stuck in the past that our future depends on this all-of-the-above energy strategy. That’s our job. That it can't just be -- it can't just be drilling for more oil. We're drilling for more oil, but that can't be all the solution; that's just part of the solution. Now, here's the sad thing. Lately, we’ve heard a lot of professional politicians, a lot of the folks who are running for a certain office who shall go unnamed they've been talking down new sources of energy. They dismiss wind power. They dismiss solar power. They make jokes about biofuels. They were against raising fuel standards. I guess they like gas-guzzlers. They think that's good for our future. We’re trying to move towards the future; they want to be stuck in the past. We’ve heard this kind of thinking before. Let me tell you something. If some of these folks were around when Columbus set sail they must have been founding members of the Flat Earth Society. They would not have believed that the world was round. We've heard these folks in the past. They probably would have agreed with one of the pioneers of the radio who said, "Television won’t last. It’s a flash in the pan." One of Henry Ford’s advisors was quoted as saying, "The horse is here to stay but the automobile is only a fad." There have always been folks like that. There always have been folks who are the naysayers and don't believe in the future, and don't believe in trying to do things differently. One of my predecessors, Rutherford B. Hayes, reportedly said about the telephone, "It’s a great invention, but who would ever want to use one?" That's why he's not on Mt. Rushmore because he’s looking backwards. He’s not looking forwards. He’s explaining why we can't do something, instead of why we can do something.
The point is, there will always be cynics and naysayers who just want to keep on doing things the same way that we’ve always done them. They want to double down on the same ideas that got us into some of the mess that we’ve been in. But that's not who we are as Americans. See, America has always succeeded because we refuse to stand still. We put faith in the future. We are inventors. We are builders. We are makers of things. We are Thomas Edison. We are the Wright Brothers. We are Bill Gates. We are Steve Jobs. That’s who we are. That’s who we need to be right now. That's who we need to be right now. I don't understand when I hear folks who are in elected office, or aspiring to elected office, who ignore the facts and seem to just want to get a cute bumper sticker line, instead of actually trying to solve our problems. What I just said about energy, by the way, is not disputed by any energy expert. Everybody agrees with this. So why is it that somebody who wants to help lead the country would be ignoring the facts?
If you want an example of what I’m talking about, consider an important issue that's before Congress right now. The question -- there’s a question before Congress I want everybody to know about. The question is whether or not we should keep giving $4 billion in taxpayer subsidies to the oil industry.
The oil industry has been subsidized by you, the taxpayer, for about a hundred years -- 100 years. One hundred years, a century. So some of the same folks who are complaining about biofuels getting subsidies, or wind or solar energy getting subsidies, or electric cars and advanced batteries getting subsidies to help get them off the ground, these same folks -- when you say, why are we still giving subsidies to the oil industry –- “well, no, we need those.” Oil companies are making more money right now than they’ve ever made. On top of the money they’re getting from you at the gas station every time you fill up, they want some of your tax dollars as well.
That doesn't make any sense. Does it make sense?
It’s inexcusable. It is time for this oil industry giveaway to end. So in the next few weeks, I expect Congress to vote on ending these subsidies. And when they do, they’ll put every single member of Congress on record. I guess you can stand up for the oil companies who really don't need much help, or they can stand up for the American people, because we can take that $4 billion -- we could be investing it in clean energy in a good energy future, in fuel efficiency. We’re good at being on the cutting edge. Ending these subsidies won’t bring down gas prices tomorrow. Even if we drilled every inch of America, that won’t bring gas prices down tomorrow. But if we’re tired of watching gas prices spike every single year, and being caught in this position, where what happens in the Middle East ends up taking money out of your pocket, if we want to stabilize energy prices for the long term and the medium term, if we want America to grow, we’re going to have look past what we’ve been doing and put ourselves on the path to a real, sustainable energy future. That’s the future you deserve. So I need all of you to make your voices heard. Get on the phone, write an email, send a letter, let your member of Congress know where you stand. Tell them to do the right thing. Tell them we can win this fight. Tell them we’re going to combine our creativity and our optimism, our brainpower, our manpower, our womanpower. The jet engine in it's various sizes, is the most prolific energy source in aviation. Thousands are used in both civilian and military aircraft, worldwide. No 'green' energy source can compete with the jet engine! Until they can--which is probably NEVER--no 'green' energy source will completely replace fossil fuels. Until there is a wind-powered; a water-powered; a solar-powered aircraft, fossil fuels will be the ONLY WORKABLE ENERGY SOURCE for high speed travel; high speed military aircraft!!

Now, I just finished learning about some of the work that you’re doing here at this community college to make sure that homes are using less energy, and helping folks save money on their heating and their air-conditioning bills. And I was very impressed. I’m even more impressed because I know this program is giving a lot of people a chance to make a decent living -- everyone from veterans to folks with disabilities to folks who’ve just been down on their luck but want to work. So I want you to know how proud I am of this program, of this institution, of all of you. The skills that you gain here at this community college will be the surest path to success in this economy. Because if there’s one thing that we’re thinking about a lot these days, is, first of all, how do we make sure that American workers have the skills and education they need to be able to succeed in this competitive global economy? And community colleges all across the country and all across Maryland are doing an outstanding job providing young people that first opportunity after high school but also helping older workers retrain for the jobs of the future because the economy is constantly adapting. So community colleges are big. Community colleges are critical to our long-term success. What’s also critical to our long-term success is the question of energy: How do we use less energy? How do we produce more energy right here in the United States of America?
I have mixed emotions coming here today. On the positive side, I so enjoy coming to community colleges; I don't have to sound very smart to impress the student audience. Another positive is that the student body are usually in their teens and as such, are highly impressionable, they believe all the crap I feed them. On the negative side, this school is in Maryland, just outside the District of Corruption. With the school being that close, I don't have to use Air Force One and that's a dam' shame. The taxpayers fund all my travel--even all those illegal campaign charges I write off to them--but coming here is just a short helicopter ride. Actually it takes three helicopters for all the Secret Service protection and one just hauls all the sound crap and teleprompters. I can't speak without them!!
I have found though, that many students don't belong in a community college. They'd fare far better if they were in a high-quality trade school. The great demand for the future will be in the trades. We have far more lawyers, economists, professional lobbyists and professional, career politicians than we'll ever need in the foreseeable future!!
And I know this is an especially important topic for everybody right now because you guys have to fill up at the gas station. And it’s rough. Gas prices and the world oil markets right now are putting a lot of pressure on families right now. And one of the things that is important to remember is for a lot of folks, just doing what you have to do to get your kids to school, to get to the job, to do grocery shopping -- you don’t have an option. You’ve got to be able to fill up that gas tank. And when prices spike on the world market, it’s like a tax, it’s like somebody is going into your pocket. We passed the payroll tax at the beginning of this year to make sure that everybody had an extra $40 in their paycheck, on average in part because we anticipated that gas prices might be going up like they did last year, given tight world oil supplies. But that doesn’t make it easier for a lot of families out there that are just struggling to get by. This is tough. Now, the question is, how do we meet this challenge? Because right now we’re starting to see a lot of politicians talking a lot but not doing much. And we’ve seen this movie before. Gas prices went up around this time last year. Gas prices shot up in the spring and summer of 2008 -- I remember, I was running for President at the time. This has been going on for years now. And every time prices start to go up -- especially in an election year -- politicians dust off their 3-point plans for $2.00 gas. I guess this year they decided, we're going to make it $2.50. I don't know where -- why not $2.40? Why not $2.10? But they tell the same story. They head down to the gas station; they make sure a few cameras are following them and then they start acting like we've got a magic wand and we will give you cheap gas forever if you just elect us. Every time. Been the same script for 30 years. It's like a bad rerun.
Now, here’s the thing -- because we've seen it all before, we know better. You know better. There is no such thing as a quick fix when it comes to high gas prices. There’s no silver bullet. Anybody who tells you otherwise isn’t really looking for a solution -- they’re trying to ride the political wave of the moment. Usually, the most common thing, when you actually ask them -- all right, how is it that you're going to get back to $2.00 a gallon gas, how are you going to do it, specifically, what is your plan -- then typically what you'll hear from them is, well, if we just drilled more for oil then gas prices would immediately come down and all our problems would go away. That's usually the response. Now, Maryland, there are two problems with that answer. First of all, we are drilling. Under my administration, America is producing more oil today than at any time in the last eight years. (Applause.) Any time. That's a fact. That's a fact. We’ve quadrupled the number of operating oil rigs to a record high. I want everybody to listen to that -- we have more oil rigs operating now than ever. That's a fact. We’ve approved dozens of new pipelines to move oil across the country. We announced our support for a new one in Oklahoma that will help get more oil down to refineries on the Gulf Coast. Over the last three years, my administration has opened millions of acres of land in 23 different states for oil and gas exploration. Offshore, I’ve directed my administration to open up more than 75 percent of our potential oil resources. That includes an area in the Gulf of Mexico we opened up a few months ago that could produce more than 400 million barrels of oil. So do not tell me that we’re not drilling. We’re drilling all over this country. I guess there are a few spots where we’re not drilling. We’re not drilling in the National Mall. We’re not drilling at your house. I guess we could try to have, like, 200 oil rigs in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay. Well, that’s the question. We are drilling at a record pace but we’re doing so in a way that protects the health and safety and the natural resources of the American people. So that’s point number one. If you start hearing this “drill, baby, drill; drill, drill, drill” -- if you start hearing that again, just remember you’ve got the facts -- we’re doing that. Tell me something new. That’s problem number one.
I'm really in an indefensible position, here. You've heard all those lies I've been peddling since fuel prices became the topic du' jour. There's alot more facts that I could spell out, but they're directly opposite of my public position. See, the first and foremost fact is the national average gas price is up over 105% since my immaculation, three LONG years ago. Additional national average diesel price is up 80++% since my immaculation.
I blather almost constantly about that 2% versus 20% lie. The actual phrase that was stolen from is:
"America has 5% of the population but use 24% of the world's energy." Of course, we had to tweak the numbers to make the consumption seem far worse than the rest of the planet. One point that's never mentioned: with the exception of my incredible borrowing and spending, all the energy consumed by the citizens of the United States is bought and paid for; nothing was stolen from the world's third-world ratholes as we socio-fascists would have you believe.
Those 'drilling' numbers I cite?!? Some guy in some broom-closet in MY barackingham Palace pulls them out of his ass!! The actual truth is the vast majority of working drilling sites were approved and permitted in the past 25 years or so, by Presidents Bush-41, "Slick-Willie" Clinton or President Bush-43. True, I opened up lots of federal lands to oil drilling.... but I forgot to mention that I very rarely approve a permit to actually start the drills turning!! Most of the drilling I refer to--that drilling I lead you to believe is taking place on federal lands--is taking place on private lands, sometimes in someone's front-yard!! Given the current--and ongoing--owe-bama Depression, most folks would relish having an oil rig in their yards.... just imagine the royalties they'd be receiving for every barrel pumped out of the ground.
Here’s the second problem with what some of these politicians are talking about. There’s a problem with a strategy that only relies on drilling and that is, America uses more than 20 percent of the world’s oil. If we drilled every square inch of this country -- so we went to your house and we went to the National Mall and we put up those rigs everywhere -- we’d still have only 2 percent of the world’s known oil reserves. Let’s say we miss something -- maybe it’s 3 percent instead of 2. We’re using 20; we have 2. Now, you don’t need to be getting an excellent education at Prince George’s Community College to know that we’ve got a math problem here. I help out Sasha occasionally with her math homework and I know that if you’ve got 2 and you’ve got 20, there’s a gap.
Do we have anybody who’s good at math here? Am I right? Okay.
So if we don’t develop other sources of energy, if we don’t develop the technology to use less energy to make our economy more energy-efficient, then we will always be dependent on foreign countries for our energy needs. And that means every time there’s instability in the Middle East, which is the main thing that’s driving oil prices up right now -- it’s the same thing that was driving oil prices up last year -- every time that happens, every time that there’s unrest, any time that there’s concern about a conflict, suddenly, oil futures shoot up, you’re going to feel it at the pump. It will happen every single time. We will not fully be in control of our energy future if our strategy is only to drill for the 2 percent but we still have to buy the 20 percent. And there’s another wrinkle to this -- other countries use oil, too. We’re not the only ones. So you’ve got rapidly-growing nations like China and India, and they’re all starting to buy cars. They’re getting wealthier. They want cars, too. And that means the price of gas will rise. Just to give you an example -- in 2010, China alone added 10 million new cars. That’s just in one year. And there are about a billion Chinese. So they’ve got a lot more people who are going to want cars in the future, which means they are going to want to get some of that oil and that will drive prices up. So we can’t just drill our way out of the problem. We are drilling, but it’s not going to solve our problem. That’s not the future I want for the United States of America. We can’t allow ourselves to be held hostage to events on the other side of the globe. That’s not who we are. America controls its own destiny. We’re not dependent on somebody else. So we can’t have an energy strategy for the last century that traps us in the past. We need an energy strategy for the future -- an all-of-the-above strategy for the 21st century that develops every source of American-made energy. Yes, develop as much oil and gas as we can, but also develop wind power and solar power and biofuels. Make our buildings more fuel-efficient. Make our homes more fuel-efficient. Make our cars and trucks more fuel-efficient so they get more miles for the gallon. That’s where I want to take this country. And here's -- the best part of it is thousands of Americans have jobs right now because we’ve doubled the use of clean energy in this country since I came into office. And I want to keep on making those investments. (Applause.) I don’t want to see wind turbines and solar panels and high-tech batteries made in other countries by other workers. I want to make them here. I want to make them here in Maryland. I want to make them here in the United States of America, with American workers. That's what I want. So when I came into office, we said, all right, how are we going to start moving America in that direction? It's not a thing you get done in one year, but how do we start moving in that direction? So after 30 years of not doing anything, we raised fuel economy standards on cars and trucks so that by the middle of the next decade, our cars will average nearly 55 miles per gallon -- that's double what we get today -- 55 miles per gallon. Fifty-five miles a gallon.

The "2%" I'm constantly referring to as if it were a 'cuss-word,' is a far cry from the truth. That "2%" is 22.3 billion barrels of proved oil reserves. "Proved oil reserves" as explained by my own Energy Information Administration (EIA), is a small subset of recoverable resources!! Ok--and George Soros is gonna get really pissed at me for this--let's look at all the oil reserves:
**22.3 bln barrels: those "2%" I blather about, HOURLY, per my own the EIA, and
**86 bln barrels in the Outer Continental Shelf, per my own Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, and
**24 bln barrels (shale deposits) in the 'lower-48,' per my own EIA, and
**2 bln barrels (shale deposits) in Alaska's 'North Slope,' per my own U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and
**12 bln barrels in the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), per my own USGS, and
**19 bln barrels in the Utah Tar Sands, per my own Bureau of Land Management, and
**1.4 TRILLION barrels in Wyoming's Green River Formation, per my own USGS.
Oh, but these are only estimates, you say!! How true, I say!!
Historically, federal agencies' estimates on anything are generally on the low side. As but one example, I cite North Dakota's Bakken Formation:
In 1995, the USGS estimated the total recoverable oil volume to be 151 million barrels.
In 2008, the USGS increased it's estimate to 3 billion to 4.3 billion barrels.
In 2011, oil analysists increased the estimate to 20 billion barrels.
The United States--by these totals--truely is awash in crude oil!!
So the young people here who were driving those beaters that getting 5 miles per gallon we're going to get you to 55. And that will save the average family more than $8,000 over the life of a car -- $8,000. That will help pay some bills. That means you’ll be able to fill up every two weeks instead of every week. And those are the cars we need to keep building here in the United States.
All right, so now, to fuel these cars and trucks, obviously if they're using less gas, that's great. That saves us; we're using less oil. But we also want to invest in clean advanced biofuels that can replace some of the oil that we're currently using. That's important. Already, we’re using these biofuels to power everything from city buses to UPS trucks to Navy ships. I want to see more of these fuels in American cars -- homegrown fuels -- because that means we're buying less oil from foreign countries and we're creating jobs here in the United States including big parts of rural America, big parts of rural Maryland, where the economy oftentimes is struggling and you have a real opportunity to create entire new industries and put people to work. And it's happening all across the country. So all of these steps have put us on a path of greater energy independence. Here's a statistic I want everybody to remember next time you're talking to somebody who doesn’t know what they're talking about. Since I took office, America’s dependence on foreign oil has gone down every single year. In 2010, our oil dependence, the amount that we're bringing in, the percentage we're bringing in, was under 50 percent for the first time in 13 years. We've got to do better than that, and we can do better than that.
But in order to do better than that, we've got to tell the folks who are stuck in the past that our future depends on this all-of-the-above energy strategy. That’s our job. That it can't just be -- it can't just be drilling for more oil. We're drilling for more oil, but that can't be all the solution; that's just part of the solution. Now, here's the sad thing. Lately, we’ve heard a lot of professional politicians, a lot of the folks who are running for a certain office who shall go unnamed they've been talking down new sources of energy. They dismiss wind power. They dismiss solar power. They make jokes about biofuels. They were against raising fuel standards. I guess they like gas-guzzlers. They think that's good for our future. We’re trying to move towards the future; they want to be stuck in the past. We’ve heard this kind of thinking before. Let me tell you something. If some of these folks were around when Columbus set sail they must have been founding members of the Flat Earth Society. They would not have believed that the world was round. We've heard these folks in the past. They probably would have agreed with one of the pioneers of the radio who said, "Television won’t last. It’s a flash in the pan." One of Henry Ford’s advisors was quoted as saying, "The horse is here to stay but the automobile is only a fad." There have always been folks like that. There always have been folks who are the naysayers and don't believe in the future, and don't believe in trying to do things differently. One of my predecessors, Rutherford B. Hayes, reportedly said about the telephone, "It’s a great invention, but who would ever want to use one?" That's why he's not on Mt. Rushmore because he’s looking backwards. He’s not looking forwards. He’s explaining why we can't do something, instead of why we can do something.
The point is, there will always be cynics and naysayers who just want to keep on doing things the same way that we’ve always done them. They want to double down on the same ideas that got us into some of the mess that we’ve been in. But that's not who we are as Americans. See, America has always succeeded because we refuse to stand still. We put faith in the future. We are inventors. We are builders. We are makers of things. We are Thomas Edison. We are the Wright Brothers. We are Bill Gates. We are Steve Jobs. That’s who we are. That’s who we need to be right now. That's who we need to be right now. I don't understand when I hear folks who are in elected office, or aspiring to elected office, who ignore the facts and seem to just want to get a cute bumper sticker line, instead of actually trying to solve our problems. What I just said about energy, by the way, is not disputed by any energy expert. Everybody agrees with this. So why is it that somebody who wants to help lead the country would be ignoring the facts?
If you want an example of what I’m talking about, consider an important issue that's before Congress right now. The question -- there’s a question before Congress I want everybody to know about. The question is whether or not we should keep giving $4 billion in taxpayer subsidies to the oil industry.
The oil industry has been subsidized by you, the taxpayer, for about a hundred years -- 100 years. One hundred years, a century. So some of the same folks who are complaining about biofuels getting subsidies, or wind or solar energy getting subsidies, or electric cars and advanced batteries getting subsidies to help get them off the ground, these same folks -- when you say, why are we still giving subsidies to the oil industry –- “well, no, we need those.” Oil companies are making more money right now than they’ve ever made. On top of the money they’re getting from you at the gas station every time you fill up, they want some of your tax dollars as well.
That doesn't make any sense. Does it make sense?
It’s inexcusable. It is time for this oil industry giveaway to end. So in the next few weeks, I expect Congress to vote on ending these subsidies. And when they do, they’ll put every single member of Congress on record. Everybody uses 'children' when they want to make a point by tugging at the public heartstrings!! What do you suppose would be the net affect of ending said subsidies?!? Let me tell'ya.... The evil oil companies ain't gonna 'eat' the added expense!! They'll pass it on, ultimately to the end user..... YOU, the consumer!! How--when coupled with MY doubling of gas prices in three years--do you think that will affect my dwindling chances at re-immaculation?!? Not Well!!
Ta'hell with George Soros!! Yes, contact your senators and congressmen and women!! But.... tell them to approve more drilling permits; tell them to approve more oil refineries; tell them to approve new--as well as replacement--nuclear reactors!! Now, back then, in 2008, we were talking about how working Americans were already having a tough go of it. Folks were working harder and longer for less. It was getting tougher to afford health care or to send your kids to college. The economy was already shedding jobs, and in less than a decade, nearly one in three manufacturing jobs had vanished. Then the bottom fell out of the economy, and things got that much tougher. We were losing 700,000 to 800,000 jobs a month. The economy was hemorrhaging. And three and a half years later, we’re still recovering from the worst economic crisis in our lifetimes. And we’ve got a lot of work to do before everybody who wants a good job can find one, before middle-class folks regain that sense of security that had been slipping away even before the recession hit, and before towns like Petersburg get fully back on their feet. But here’s the good news: Over the past two years, our businesses have added nearly 4 million new jobs. We just found out that last month in February we added 233,000 private sector jobs. More companies are bringing jobs back and investing in America. And manufacturing is adding jobs for the first time since the 1990s. We just had another good month last month in terms of adding manufacturing jobs. And this facility is part of the evidence of what’s going on all across the country. This company is about to hire more than 200 new workers -- 140 of them right here in Petersburg, Virginia. So the economy is getting stronger. And when I come to places like this, and I see the work that’s being done, it gives me confidence there are better days ahead. I know it because I would bet on American workers and American know-how any day of the week.
When I was immaculated in January 2009, the U-3 (socially acceptable) unemployment rate 7.8% which I--over the course of 10 short months--I and my regime managed to pushe the rate up to 10.1%!! Over the same period of time the U-6 (TRUE) unemployment rate ran from 14.2% at the immaculation to--in October--17.2%. By comparison, that evil George Bush's U-6 rate ranged from 7.3% to 13.5%.... Hell-a-va difference, huh?!?
Now here's where the cleaver--fuzzy--math comes in: each month the regime checks the 'labor participation rate' prior to tweaking the unemployment numbers. The 'labor participation rate' is a cleaver 'fascist' way of tweaking all the relative numbers to finally come up with a U-3 (socially acceptable) unemployment rate. When folks just stop looking for work--whether they're drawing unemployment benefits or not--we eliminate them from the 'labor participation rate' thus we can artificially lower the U-3 rate, most recently to 8.3%. Realistically, the rate to be considered--to get the complete picture of the lack-of-jobs--is the U-6 rate. Now, isn't that cleaver?!?!?
By comparison, that evil "Ronaldus-Magnus," President Ronald Reagan had the record for longest span of high unemployment until I beat him!! Finally.... I beat someone at something!! I now hold the record for:
Unemployment rate over 8%--32 months, and
Unemployment rate over 9%--27 months, and
Average number of weeks unemployed--40.5!!
We--and by we I mean others in the regime--can blather on all we want about the number of new jobs added. They told us we were building communities and neighborhoods, we were building a country. It gave people pride about what America was about. And that’s why one of the first decisions I made as President was to stand by manufacturing, to stand by the American auto industry when it was on the brink of collapse. The heartbeat of American manufacturing was at stake -- and so were more than a million jobs. And today, the American auto industry is coming back, and GM is number one in the world again, and Ford is investing billions in American plants and factories. And together, over the past two and a half years, the entire auto industry has added more than 200,000 jobs.
And here’s the thing. They’re not just building cars again, they’re building better cars. For the first time in three decades, we raised fuel standards in this country, so that by the middle of the next decade the cars that are built in America will average nearly 55 miles to the gallon. That will save the typical family about $8,000 at the pump over time. That’s real savings. That's real money.
Here I go again.... actually, 'still!' I continually beat you over the head with the 'Government Motors' bailout as if it were a good thing. Well, maybe the basic concept of the industry bailout was good, but the owe-bama regime so bastardized that 'GM' thingie, it was unrecognizable by the time we finally paid off the unions (with 37% of the company), campaign supporters and election donors, the discerning public was able to figure out that it was a complete sham!!

Quality was not optional at the time of the GM and Chrysler bailouts, or even with Ford--which refused bailout funds, even though the regime tried to force them as we did with the banks. Ford's "quality numbers" were good, but both GM and Chrysler's had to come up or even more socio-fascist bailouts couldn't save them!!

Raising the CAFE standards has nothing to do with saving the American consumer money at the retail pumps; it has everything to do with control of every aspect of American life! You'll note that I rarely say much about the pump price of gasoline and diesel fuel. Gasoline prices at the 'immaculation rate' would save the consumer considerably more money with unchanged CAFE standards. I have no desire to see it drop; rather, I'd like to see it keep increasing, albeit at a much slower pace!! An 'owe-bamaFact:' The national average gas price has gone up 105% since my immaculation, diesel has gone up 95% since said immaculation.And it shows that depending on foreign oil doesn’t have to be our future. It shows that when we harness our own ingenuity, our technology, then we control our future. See, America thrives when we build things better than the rest of the world. I want us to make stuff here and sell it over there. I don't want stuff made over there and selling it over here. And that’s exactly what you’re doing here at the largest Rolls-Royce facility in the world. That’s what you’re doing by building the key components of newer, faster, more fuel-efficient jet engines. But a few weeks ago.... I went to Boeing, in Washington State, and I checked out a new Dreamliner. I even got to sit in the cockpit, which was pretty sweet. I didn’t press any buttons there, though because if it had started going it would have been a problem. So this plane, the Dreamliner, is going to keep America at the cutting edge of aerospace technology. American workers are manufacturing various components for it in Ohio, and Oklahoma, and South Carolina, and Kansas, and right here in Petersburg. In fact, the demand for their planes was so high last year that Boeing had to hire 13,000 workers all across America just to keep up. And Boeing is gaining more and more share all the time. So think about that. Rolls-Royce is choosing to invest in America. You’re creating jobs here, manufacturing components for jet engines, for planes that we’re going to send all around the world. And that’s the kind of business cycle we want to see. Not buying stuff that’s made someplace else and racking up debt, but by inventing things and building things and selling them all around the world stamped with three proud words: “Made in America.” Think about how important this is. I mean, imagine if the plane of the future was being built someplace else. Imagine if we had given up on the auto industry. Imagine if we had settled for a lesser future. But we didn’t. We’re Americans. We are inventors. We are builders. We’re Thomas Edison and we’re the Wright Brothers and we are Steven Jobs. That’s who we are. That’s what we do. We invent stuff, we build it. And pretty soon, the entire world adapts it. That’s who we are. And as long as I’m President, we’re going to keep on doing it. We’re going to make sure the next generation of life-changing products are invented and manufactured here in the United States of America. I--as well as others in the regime--continue to piss-n-moan about 'sending' jobs overseas, when the real truth is that the U.S. Tax Code, the EPA regulations, the OSHA regulations as well as the rest of the red-tape bullshit are 'DRIVING' businesses out of the country!! If you lived in Manhattan and could do your job in--say--Springfield, Missouri, wouldn't you move?!? Missouri's tax rates are far less than New York State's; the cost-of-living is far lower in Springfield than Manhattan; Springfield is on a major trucking freight lane, while Manhattan is not!! Truckers HATE to go into the five-boroughs that make up New York City.

This was little more than favoring one of my largest blocks of support, the union membership over private industry!!So that’s why we launched an all-hands-on-deck effort. We brought together the brightest academic minds, the boldest business leaders, the most dedicated public servants from our science and our technology agencies all with one big goal: a renaissance in American manufacturing. We called it the Advanced Manufacturing Partnership. The Advanced Manufacturing Partnership. And today, we’re building on it. I’m laying out my plans for a new National Network of Manufacturing Innovation –- and these are going to be institutes of manufacturing excellence where some of our most advanced engineering schools and our most innovative manufacturers collaborate on new ideas, new technology, new methods, new processes. And if this sounds familiar, that’s because what you’re about to do right here at Crosspointe. Later this summer, the Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing will open its doors. But some of the small to medium-sized businesses, it’s a little bit harder. So this gives them access and allows them to take part in this new renaissance of American inventiveness. And we’ve got to build these institutes all across the country -- all across the country. I don’t want it just here at Crosspointe, I want it everywhere. To do that, we need Congress to act. Hmm. It’s true. But that doesn’t mean we have to hold our breath. We’re not going to wait -- we’re going to go ahead on our own. Later this year, we’re going to choose the winner of a competition for a pilot institute for manufacturing innovation -- help them get started. With that pilot in place, we’ll keep on pushing Congress to do the right thing because this is the kind of approach that can succeed, but we’ve got to have this all across the country. I want everybody thinking about how are we making the best products; how are we harnessing the new ideas and making sure they’re located here in the United States. And sparking this network of innovation across the country – it will create jobs and it will keep America in the manufacturing game. Of course, there’s more we can do to seize this moment of opportunity to create new jobs and manufacturing here in America. We’ve got to do everything we can to encourage more companies to make the decision to invest in America and bring jobs back from overseas. And we’re starting to see companies do that. They’re starting to realize this is the place with the best workers, the best ideas, the best universities. This is the place to be. We've got to give them a little more encouragement. Right now, companies get tax breaks for moving jobs and profits overseas. Companies that choose to invest in America, they get hit with one of the highest tax rates in the world. Does that make any sense? It makes no sense. Everybody knows it. So it's time to stop rewarding businesses that ship jobs overseas; reward companies that create good jobs right here in the United States of America. That's how our tax code can work. That's how our tax code should work.
And let’s make sure all our workers have the skills that companies like this one are looking for -- because we've got to have folks engaged in lifelong learning. The days when you started out at 20 at one company and you just kept on doing the same thing for 40 years -- that's not going to happen anymore. So even if -- as I was meeting some of the folks here, they had been in the industry, they'd been machinists, they'd been in manufacturing for years. But they're constantly upgrading their skills and retraining. And some of them had been laid off and had gone back to school before they came to this company. And so we've got to make sure those opportunities for people mid-career and onward, that they can constantly go back to a community college and retool so that they can make sure they're qualified for the jobs of tomorrow. At a time when so many Americans are looking for work, no job opening should go unfilled just because people didn’t have an opportunity to get the training they needed. And that’s why I've asked Congress, join me in a national commitment to train 2 million Americans with the skills that will lead directly to a job -- right now. We need to create more partnerships like the one this plant has with John Tyler Community College. We should give more community colleges the resources they need. I want them to be community career centers -- places that teach people skills that companies are looking for right now, from data management to the kind of high-tech manufacturing that's being done at this facility. So day by day, we’re restoring this economy from crisis. But we can’t stop there. We've got to make this economy ready for tomorrow. Day by day, we’re creating new jobs, but we can’t stop there -- not until everybody who’s out there pounding the pavement, sending out their résumés has a chance to land one of those jobs.
See where I'm going, here?!? I fully intend to be--hopefully, with the exception of the 'FDR Depression'--as remembered as President Franklin Roosevelt. To that end, I've developed and initiated nearly as many 'alphabet agencies' as FDR did. The whole idea here is to grow the federal bureaucracy as quickly and as large as is possible given the distinct probability that I'll rule for only four years. With the proliferation of owe-bama 'alphabet agencies' there will be more and more control, more and more wealth re-distribution with fewer and fewer individual rights!! No one can doubt that I favor a college education for every graduating high school senior. What few understand is.... in most cases college is not necessary, in more-than-just-a-few cases, college is not the best choice for particular graduates. As Justin Case is fond of saying:

And when we come together and combine our creativity and our optimism and our willingness to work hard, and if we're harnessing our brainpower and our manpower, our horsepower, I promise you we will thrive again. We will get to where we need to go. And we will leave behind an economy that is built to last. We will make this another American century.

Why buy a car with a range of 25-35 miles on electric motors when--with an additional 10-grand--you could be driving a Chevrolet Corvette!! We socio-fascists fully intend to drag America--kicking and screaming--back into the 'horse-and-buggy' era, albeit in style. What I mean by that is: Once the stratospheric fuel prices preclude buying vehicles with internal combustion engines--and with Volt-type vehicles--a day's travel will be taken back to that of farmers and their buggies.

So think about that. Rolls-Royce is choosing to invest in America. You’re creating jobs here, manufacturing components for jet engines, for planes that we’re going to send all around the world. And that’s the kind of business cycle we want to see. Not buying stuff that’s made someplace else and racking up debt, but by inventing things and building things and selling them all around the world stamped with three proud words: “Made in America.” Think about how important this is. I mean, imagine if the plane of the future was being built someplace else. Imagine if we had given up on the auto industry. Imagine if we had settled for a lesser future. But we didn’t. We’re Americans. We are inventors. We are builders. We’re Thomas Edison and we’re the Wright Brothers and we are Steven Jobs. That’s who we are. That’s what we do. We invent stuff, we build it. And pretty soon, the entire world adapts it. That’s who we are. And as long as I’m President, we’re going to keep on doing it. We’re going to make sure the next generation of life-changing products are invented and manufactured here in the United States of America. I--as well as others in the regime--continue to piss-n-moan about 'sending' jobs overseas, when the real truth is that the U.S. Tax Code, the EPA regulations, the OSHA regulations as well as the rest of the red-tape bullshit are 'DRIVING' businesses out of the country!! If you lived in Manhattan and could do your job in--say--Springfield, Missouri, wouldn't you move?!? Missouri's tax rates are far less than New York State's; the cost-of-living is far lower in Springfield than Manhattan; Springfield is on a major trucking freight lane, while Manhattan is not!! Truckers HATE to go into the five-boroughs that make up New York City.

I'm the same guy whose NLRB gave Boeing so much 'heartburn' about building a manufacturing facility in Charleston, South Carolina, lying about moving jobs from Everett to Charleston!! This was little more than favoring one of my largest blocks of support, the union membership over private industry!!So that’s why we launched an all-hands-on-deck effort. We brought together the brightest academic minds, the boldest business leaders, the most dedicated public servants from our science and our technology agencies all with one big goal: a renaissance in American manufacturing. We called it the Advanced Manufacturing Partnership. The Advanced Manufacturing Partnership. And today, we’re building on it. I’m laying out my plans for a new National Network of Manufacturing Innovation –- and these are going to be institutes of manufacturing excellence where some of our most advanced engineering schools and our most innovative manufacturers collaborate on new ideas, new technology, new methods, new processes. And if this sounds familiar, that’s because what you’re about to do right here at Crosspointe. Later this summer, the Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing will open its doors. And it’s a partnership between manufacturers, including this one, UVA, Virginia Tech, Virginia State University. VSU is a little overrepresented here, obviously the Commonwealth and the federal government. So think of this as a place where companies can share access to cutting-edge capabilities. At the same time, students and workers are picking up new skills, they’re training on state-of-the-art equipment; they’re solving some of the most important challenges facing our manufacturers.
You just got all this brain power and skill and experience coming together in this hub, and that makes the whole greater than the sum of its parts. It allows everybody to learn from each other and figure out how we’re going to do things even better. It’s going to help get that next great idea from a paper or a computer to the lab, to the factory, to the global marketplace. And that’s especially important for the one in three Americans in manufacturing who work for a small business that doesn’t always have access to resources like these. Obviously, big companies -- the Boeings, the Intels, the Rolls Royces -- they’ve got the resources, the capital, to be able to create these platforms. But some of the small to medium-sized businesses, it’s a little bit harder. So this gives them access and allows them to take part in this new renaissance of American inventiveness. And we’ve got to build these institutes all across the country -- all across the country. I don’t want it just here at Crosspointe, I want it everywhere. To do that, we need Congress to act. Hmm. It’s true. But that doesn’t mean we have to hold our breath. We’re not going to wait -- we’re going to go ahead on our own. Later this year, we’re going to choose the winner of a competition for a pilot institute for manufacturing innovation -- help them get started. With that pilot in place, we’ll keep on pushing Congress to do the right thing because this is the kind of approach that can succeed, but we’ve got to have this all across the country. I want everybody thinking about how are we making the best products; how are we harnessing the new ideas and making sure they’re located here in the United States. And sparking this network of innovation across the country – it will create jobs and it will keep America in the manufacturing game. Of course, there’s more we can do to seize this moment of opportunity to create new jobs and manufacturing here in America. We’ve got to do everything we can to encourage more companies to make the decision to invest in America and bring jobs back from overseas. And we’re starting to see companies do that. They’re starting to realize this is the place with the best workers, the best ideas, the best universities. This is the place to be. We've got to give them a little more encouragement. Right now, companies get tax breaks for moving jobs and profits overseas. Companies that choose to invest in America, they get hit with one of the highest tax rates in the world. Does that make any sense? It makes no sense. Everybody knows it. So it's time to stop rewarding businesses that ship jobs overseas; reward companies that create good jobs right here in the United States of America. That's how our tax code can work. That's how our tax code should work.
And let’s make sure all our workers have the skills that companies like this one are looking for -- because we've got to have folks engaged in lifelong learning. The days when you started out at 20 at one company and you just kept on doing the same thing for 40 years -- that's not going to happen anymore. So even if -- as I was meeting some of the folks here, they had been in the industry, they'd been machinists, they'd been in manufacturing for years. But they're constantly upgrading their skills and retraining. And some of them had been laid off and had gone back to school before they came to this company. And so we've got to make sure those opportunities for people mid-career and onward, that they can constantly go back to a community college and retool so that they can make sure they're qualified for the jobs of tomorrow. At a time when so many Americans are looking for work, no job opening should go unfilled just because people didn’t have an opportunity to get the training they needed. And that’s why I've asked Congress, join me in a national commitment to train 2 million Americans with the skills that will lead directly to a job -- right now. We need to create more partnerships like the one this plant has with John Tyler Community College. We should give more community colleges the resources they need. I want them to be community career centers -- places that teach people skills that companies are looking for right now, from data management to the kind of high-tech manufacturing that's being done at this facility. So day by day, we’re restoring this economy from crisis. But we can’t stop there. We've got to make this economy ready for tomorrow. Day by day, we’re creating new jobs, but we can’t stop there -- not until everybody who’s out there pounding the pavement, sending out their résumés has a chance to land one of those jobs.
See where I'm going, here?!? I fully intend to be--hopefully, with the exception of the 'FDR Depression'--as remembered as President Franklin Roosevelt. To that end, I've developed and initiated nearly as many 'alphabet agencies' as FDR did. The whole idea here is to grow the federal bureaucracy as quickly and as large as is possible given the distinct probability that I'll rule for only four years. With the proliferation of owe-bama 'alphabet agencies' there will be more and more control, more and more wealth re-distribution with fewer and fewer individual rights!! No one can doubt that I favor a college education for every graduating high school senior. What few understand is.... in most cases college is not necessary, in more-than-just-a-few cases, college is not the best choice for particular graduates. As Justin Case is fond of saying:
"More college graduates hire plumbers than plumbers who hire college graduates!"
Every day we’re producing more oil and gas than we have in years, but we can’t stop there. I want our businesses to lead the world in clean energy, too. We’ve got the best colleges and universities in the world, but we can’t stop there. I want to make sure more of our students can afford to go to those colleges and universities. Everybody knows we’ve got the best workers on Earth, but we can't stop there. We’ve got to make sure the middle class doesn’t just survive these times, we want them to thrive. We want them to dream big dreams and to feel confident about the future. I did not run for this office just to get back to where we were. I ran for this office to get us to where we need to be. And I promise you we will get there. Some of these challenges may take a year; some may take one term; some may take a decade -- but we're going to get there. Because when we work together, we know what we’re capable of. We’ve got the tools, we've got the know-how, we've got the toughness to overcome any obstacle. And when we come together and combine our creativity and our optimism and our willingness to work hard, and if we're harnessing our brainpower and our manpower, our horsepower, I promise you we will thrive again. We will get to where we need to go. And we will leave behind an economy that is built to last. We will make this another American century.
This on-going "oil-and-gas" kerfuffle nothing more than the socio-fascists whining-and-bitching about all the damage done to the environment, the ecology, the atmosphere. Hell, even the dumbest hill-billy in the country can understand that humans do not have the power to destroy any one or all of the aforementioned sectors of life on earth. The earth was 'engineered'--by some superior being--to be self-sustaining. Let's take the Gulf Oil Spill precipitated by the Deepwater Horizon as an example. At my behest, the national pamphleteer 'corpse' invested millions-of-dollars and thousands-of-hours in helicopter flights over the oil spill zones looking for the scum that accumulates on the water's surface. After the initial sightings, they became fewer and fewer. The regime kept the reason as quiet as possible for as long as possible, but it finally came to light. There's a type of algae that thrives on crude oil!! Who'da thunk it?!? There went our best defense for curtailing any drilling permits, deep water, shallow water or on land!!
The regime continues to prove--with each subsequent multi-million dollar gift--'green energy' in their current states, are unsustainable.

'Green energy' within the auto industry is equally unsustainable. The Chevy Volt is selling so well that GM temporarily curtailed production for 6-8 weeks. Not only does the car not sell with a $7,500 federal bribe; the bribe will be increased to $10,000-maybe that will boost sales. Why buy a car with a range of 25-35 miles on electric motors when--with an additional 10-grand--you could be driving a Chevrolet Corvette!! We socio-fascists fully intend to drag America--kicking and screaming--back into the 'horse-and-buggy' era, albeit in style. What I mean by that is: Once the stratospheric fuel prices preclude buying vehicles with internal combustion engines--and with Volt-type vehicles--a day's travel will be taken back to that of farmers and their buggies.
My regime will continue to press socio-fascism as the American 'norm!' We used it during the recent presidential election with the New Black Panthers' Voter Intimidation Unit as well as the SEIU's "Purple People Beaters."

....the Freighterline trucks that you’re making here at this plant run on natural gas, and that makes them quieter, it makes them better for the environment, it makes them cheaper to fill up than they would be with diesel. I hear you sold your 1,000th natural gas truck last November -– (applause) -- the first company to reach that milestone. And it was made right here in Mount Holly. (Applause.) And last year, this plant added more than 1,000 workers, hiring back a lot of folks who were laid off during the recession. (Applause.) That is something to be proud of.
Relative to the trucks you're building here in Mount Holly, my regime has not taken a stance on the on-going 'fracking' controversy in New York and other states where it's not an approved method of natural gas extraction. We plan to let the kerfuffle play out and take the side of 'the winners.'You're building trucks that use less oil. And you know that’s especially important right now because most of you have probably filled up your gas tank a time or two in the last week, and you've seen how quickly the price of gas is going up. A lot of you may have to drive a distance to work. Higher gas prices are like a tax straight out of your paycheck. And for companies that operate a whole fleet of trucks, the higher costs can make a big difference in terms of the profitability of the company. Now, here's the thing, though -- this is not the first time we've seen gas prices spike. It's been happening for years. Every year, about this time, gas starts spiking up, and everybody starts wondering, how high is it going to go? And every year, politicians start talking when gas prices go up. They get out on the campaign trail -- and you and I both know there are no quick fixes to this problem -- but listening to them, you'd think there were. As a country that has 2 percent of the world's oil reserves, but uses 20 percent of the world's oil -- I'm going to repeat that -- we've got 2 percent of the world oil reserves; we use 20 percent. What that means is, as much as we're doing to increase oil production, we're not going to be able to just drill our way out of the problem of high gas prices. Anybody who tells you otherwise either doesn’t know what they’re talking about or they aren’t telling you the truth.
My blather about today's fuel price increases is only a partial lie. Oil prices--and by extension, the retail fuel prices--are cyclical in nature; driven by both demand and production. What I leave out of every 'energy' blather event is that the national retail fuel price average has doubled--actually gone up about 105%--since my immaculation, and still climbing!!
Those oil statistics I quote are complete obfuscations of the actual facts as well as the listeners' perceptions of their meaning. I take advantage of the public ignorance as to the definitions of various numbers I quote. When I speak of '2 percent of the world oil reserves....' I actually mean 2% of the worldwide amount of oil actually extracted, NOT 2% of the world's DISCOVERED oil reserves. If what I say were actually true, wouldn't it stand to reason that we'd have to import 98% of our annual oil usage?!?

I like to make that statement in my campaign speeches. Most attend my blather opportunities due to my notoriety, not because they believe--or agree with--my message. Look at the production problem logically: From application to the first production well, the drilling process is several years long. From that perspective, we'd have lower gas prices today if only that evil George W. Bush would have approved more drilling permits. It's all his fault, I'm just following his lead!! If the country will always have high fuel prices relative to the number of producing wells; why drill at all?!? Why not just import 100% of our oil needs?!? One of the most contradictory actions to come along since my immaculation has been the KeyStone XL pipeline. It has nothing to do with oil exploration, with oil drilling, with oil production; it's only involved with the transportation of crude oil from Canada to the refineries on the Texas Gulf Coast. And yet, I refused to approve it even though the various federal departments could find no area in which the pipeling was not in compliance!!Here is the truth. If we are going to control our energy future, then we’ve got to have an all-of-the-above strategy. We’ve got to develop every source of American energy -- not just oil and gas, but wind power and solar power, nuclear power, biofuels. We need to invest in the technology that will help us use less oil in our cars and our trucks, in our buildings, in our factories. That’s the only solution to the challenge. Because as we start using less, that lowers the demand, prices come down. It's pretty straightforward. That’s the only solution to this challenge. And that’s the strategy that we’ve now been pursuing for the last three years. And I’m proud to say we’ve made progress. Since I took office, America’s dependence on foreign oil has gone down every single year. In fact, in 2010, it went under 50 percent for the first time in 13 years. You wouldn’t know it from listening to some of these folks out here -- (laughter) -- some of these folks -- (laughter) -- but a key part of our energy strategy has been to increase safe, responsible oil production here at home. Under my administration, America is producing more oil today than any time in the last eight years. Under my administration, we’ve quadrupled the number of operating oilrigs to a record high. We’ve got more oilrigs operating now than we’ve ever seen. We’ve opened up millions of new acres for oil and gas exploration. We’ve approved more than 400 drilling permits that follow new safety standards after we had that mess down in the Gulf. We’re approving dozens of new pipelines. We just announced that we’ll do whatever we can to speed up construction of a pipeline in Oklahoma that’s going to relieve a bottleneck and get more oil to the Gulf -- to the refineries down there -- and that’s going to help create jobs, encourage more production. So these are the facts on oil production. If somebody tells you we’re not producing enough oil, they just don’t know the facts.
The 'development' I speak of should be true development, not a method of reward! How much actual development was financed by federal pork paid to Solyndra?!? I contend, very little! And, Solyndra was but one of those we financed that filed for bankruptcy a few short months--in some cases, just weeks--after accepting the federal 'checks.' In all cases, the corporate hierarchies involved were paid--and even received substantial bonuses--as many thousands were laid off--in some cases--with unfulfilled final paychecks. Many contend--and in most cases, it's proven out--that these federal alternative energy SCAMS are little more than rewards to the regime's donors, supporters and campaign workers.
But how much oil we produce here at home, because we only have 2 percent and we use 20, that’s not going to set the price of gas worldwide, or here in the United States. Oil is bought and sold on the world market. And the biggest thing that’s causing the price of oil to rise right now is instability in the Middle East. You guys have been hearing about what’s happening with Iran; there are other oil producers that are having problems. And so people have gotten uncertain. And when uncertainty increases, then sometimes you see speculation on Wall Street that drives up gas prices even more. But here's the thing. Over the long term, the biggest reason oil prices will go up is there's just growing demand in countries like China and India and Brazil. There are a lot of people there. In 2010 alone, China added nearly 10 million cars on its roads. Think about that -- 2010, 10 million new cars. People in China, folks in India, folks in Brazil -- they're going to want cars, too, as their standard of living goes up, and that means more demand for oil, and that's going to kick up the price of oil worldwide. Those numbers are only going to get bigger over time. So what does that mean for us? It means we can't just keep on relying on the old ways of doing business. We can't just rely on fossil fuels from the last century. We've got to continually develop new sources of energy.
Every country on the planet has ever-increasing fossil fuel demands, that's just a fact-of-life. Doesn't make sense that the United States become more involved in oil exploration, oil production and oil refining?!? My regime's complete lack of a beneficial domestic energy policy is--by design--forcing the country into the same circumstance as any third-world rathole. Rather than continuing on a "Saul Alinsky-esque" socio-fascist path, logic would tell everyone--excepting those regime 'followers and supporters'--that America needs to be 'in-the-game!!'
Constantly, the regime attempts to convince the naysayers that all these alternative energy sources will be workable subsitutes for fossil fuels. They may replace small percentages of other fossil fuels, but there's no--across-the-board--subsitute for refined oil! Can you imagine a solar-powered or--funnier, yet--a windpowered Boeing jetliner!?! That's unrealistic, whether your name is George Soros or not!! All those countries I mentioned as leaders in increasing their national oil demands and usage?!? Did I tell you that they're also stepping up their oil exploration and production levels?!? Didn't think so!!
And that’s why we've made investments that have nearly doubled the use of clean, renewable energies in this country. And thousands of Americans have jobs because of it. It also means we’ve got to develop the resources that we have that are untapped, like natural gas. We're developing a near hundred-year supply of natural gas -– and that's something that we expect could support more than 600,000 jobs by the end of the decade. And that’s why we've worked with the private sector to develop a high-tech car battery that costs half as much as other batteries and can go up to 300 miles on a single charge. Think about that. That will save you some money at the pump. And that is why we are helping companies like this one right here and plants like this one right here to make more cars and trucks that use less oil. When I ran for office, I went to Detroit and I gave a speech to automakers where I promised that I was going to raise fuel standards on our cars, so that they’d go further on a gallon of gas. I said we should do the same thing on trucks. I have to tell you, when I said it, I didn't get a lot of applause in the room, because there was a time when automakers were resisting higher fuel standards -- because change isn't easy. But you know what, after three decades of not doing anything, we got together with the oil companies, we got together with the unions, we got together with folks who usually do not see eye to eye, and we negotiated new fuel economy standards that are going to make sure our cars average nearly 55 miles per gallon by the middle of the next decade. That's nearly double what they get today -- nearly double. (Applause.) Now, because of these new standards for cars and trucks, they're going to -- all going to be able to go further and use less fuel every year. And that means pretty soon you’ll be able to fill up your car every two weeks instead of every week -– and, over time, that saves you, a typical family, about $8,000 a year.
Eight thousand dollars -- that's no joke. We can reduce our oil consumption by more than 12 billion barrels. And thanks to the SuperTruck program that we’ve started with companies like this one, trucks will be able to save more than $15,000 in fuel costs every year. Think about that, $15,000. So these trucks can save $15,000 every year. I want people to think about what that means for businesses, what it means for consumers. It is real progress. And it's happening because of American workers and American know-how. It's happening because of you. It's happening because of you.
It's easy for people like me--who rarely drive; who never fill a gas tank--to demand higher CAFE standards. It's far more difficult to meet those more demanding standards! The increased standards are at the expense of affordable vehicles; the retail costs go up a bit each model year, so the consumer doesn't fully realize the increase-over-time. Safety becomes an issue as well, with more-and-more of said vehicles being 'plastic' and aluminum rather than steel.
....and electric cars.... Don't get me started on electric cars!! They're selling so well that 'owe-bama Motors' is curtailing Chevy Volt for a couple of months so over-zealous inventory can catch-up with dismal demand. Who would want one?!? They barely get TWENTY-FIVE MILES on a charge! There's very few charging stations... anyone wanna get stranded?!? Not to mention the battery fires!! Oh.... and talk about payoffs to my buddies!!
You--of course--know about the $7,500 bribe that benefit Chevy Volt buyers ONLY.

Are you also aware that the average annual wage of Chevy Volt buyers is $174,000?!? Shouldn't there be a "Buffett Rule" for Chevy Volt buyers?!?We’re also making it easier for big companies -- some of your customers, like UPS and FedEx -- to make the shift to fuel-efficient cars and trucks. We call it the National Clean Fleets Partnership. And since we announced it last year, the number of companies that are taking part in it has tripled. And that means more customers for your trucks. (Applause.) We're creating more customers for your trucks. And I am proud to say that the federal government is leading by example. One thing the federal government has a lot of is cars and trucks. We got a lot of cars and we got a lot of trucks. And so what I did was I directed every department, every agency in the federal government, to make sure that by 2015, 100 percent of the vehicles we buy run on alternative fuels -- 100 percent. (Applause.) So we’re one of the biggest customers in the world for cars and trucks and we want to set that bar high. We want to set a standard that says by 2015, 100 percent of cars, alternative fuels. So we’re making progress, Mount Holly. But at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how much natural gas, or flex-fuel or electric vehicles you have if there’s no place to charge them up or fill them up. So that’s why I’m announcing today a program that will put our communities on the cutting edge of what clean energy can do. To cities and towns all across the country, what we’re going to say is, if you make a commitment to buy more advanced vehicles for your community -- whether they run on electricity or biofuels or natural gas -- we’ll help you cut through the red tape and build fueling stations nearby. (Applause.) And we’ll offer tax breaks to families that buy these cars, companies that buy alternative fuel trucks like the ones that are made right here at Mount Holly. (Applause.) So we’re going to give communities across the country more of an incentive to make the shift to more energy-efficient cars. In fact, when I was up in New Hampshire, in Nashua, they had already converted all their dump trucks -- they were in a process because of this program -- they were converting it to natural gas-driven trucks. This is something that we did in education -- we called it Race to the Top. We said we’ll put in more money but we want you to reform. We’re going to give you an incentive to do things in a different way. And if we do the same thing with clean energy, we can save consumers money and we can make sure the economy is more secure. So we’ve got to keep investing in American-made energy and we’ve got to keep investing in the vehicles that run on it. That’s where our future is. And in order to continue this progress, we’re going to have to make a choice. We’ve got to decide where our priorities are as a country. And that’s up to all of you. And I’ll give you an example. Right now, $4 billion of your tax dollars goes straight to the oil industry every year -- $4 billion in subsidies that other companies don’t get. Now, keep in mind, these are some of the same companies that are making record profits every time you fill up your gas tank. We’re giving them extra billions of dollars on top of near-record profits that they’re already making. Anybody think that’s a good idea? It doesn’t make any sense. The American people have subsidized the oil industry long enough -- they don’t need the subsidies. It’s time to end that taxpayer giveaway to an industry that's never been more profitable, invest in clean energy that's never been more promising. (Applause.) So I called on Congress, eliminate these subsidies right away. There’s no excuse to wait any longer. And we should put every member of Congress on record: They can stand up for the oil companies or they can stand up for the American people and this new energy future. (Applause.) We can place our bets on the fuel of the past, or we can place our bets on American know-how and American ingenuity and American workers like the ones here at Daimler. (Applause.) That’s the choice we face. That’s what’s at stake right now. So, in between shifts, get on the phone or email or send a letter or tweet -- (laughter) -- your member of Congress; ask them where they stand on this -- because it will make a difference. And you’ll know where I stand on this. Let’s make sure our voices are heard. The next time you hear some politician trotting out some 3-point plan for $2 gas -- (laughter) -- you let them know, we know better.
We're forgetting the affects of natural gas-fueled trucks in two segments, the military and the over-the-road trucks. First the military. Military vehicles from staff cars to pickups, to 5-ton trucks to tanks, must be 'multi-fuel (fossil)' engines, meaning that they'll run on practically any liquid the soldier can get into the fuel tank. During those armed conflicts I get the country into, the vehicles can't always make it to the 'gas station.' They have to find fuel--any kind of fuel--any place they can. The military vehicles must be of 'diesel-fired' design. For those who don't know--including me-I was recently told of this--a diesel engine can start and run with no required electricity, with the exception of turning the engine over to start it. Diesel engines fire by the heat developed in the compression stroke of the engine. Natural gas military vehicles are not practical. Natural gas fueling stations are not available on the battlefield!!
The over-the-road trucking fleets are not practical users of natural gas as a fuel either. The fuel tanks aren't compatible with travelling great distances. The expense involved in complying with their CAFE standards have increased the trucks' purchase prices by at least $6,000, to an off-the-rack price in the $90,000-$100,000 range. That's for a 'plain-jane' model with only the necessities aboard. To upgrade to natural gas fuel will add another $10,000-$15,000 to the purchase price. Pretty soon, the largest segment of the transportation industry--the 10-truck-or-fewer company--out of business. When that happens, you'll be pissin' and moanin' that the government do something!!

....the Freighterline trucks that you’re making here at this plant run on natural gas, and that makes them quieter, it makes them better for the environment, it makes them cheaper to fill up than they would be with diesel. I hear you sold your 1,000th natural gas truck last November -– (applause) -- the first company to reach that milestone. And it was made right here in Mount Holly. (Applause.) And last year, this plant added more than 1,000 workers, hiring back a lot of folks who were laid off during the recession. (Applause.) That is something to be proud of.
Relative to the trucks you're building here in Mount Holly, my regime has not taken a stance on the on-going 'fracking' controversy in New York and other states where it's not an approved method of natural gas extraction. We plan to let the kerfuffle play out and take the side of 'the winners.'You're building trucks that use less oil. And you know that’s especially important right now because most of you have probably filled up your gas tank a time or two in the last week, and you've seen how quickly the price of gas is going up. A lot of you may have to drive a distance to work. Higher gas prices are like a tax straight out of your paycheck. And for companies that operate a whole fleet of trucks, the higher costs can make a big difference in terms of the profitability of the company. Now, here's the thing, though -- this is not the first time we've seen gas prices spike. It's been happening for years. Every year, about this time, gas starts spiking up, and everybody starts wondering, how high is it going to go? And every year, politicians start talking when gas prices go up. They get out on the campaign trail -- and you and I both know there are no quick fixes to this problem -- but listening to them, you'd think there were. As a country that has 2 percent of the world's oil reserves, but uses 20 percent of the world's oil -- I'm going to repeat that -- we've got 2 percent of the world oil reserves; we use 20 percent. What that means is, as much as we're doing to increase oil production, we're not going to be able to just drill our way out of the problem of high gas prices. Anybody who tells you otherwise either doesn’t know what they’re talking about or they aren’t telling you the truth.
My blather about today's fuel price increases is only a partial lie. Oil prices--and by extension, the retail fuel prices--are cyclical in nature; driven by both demand and production. What I leave out of every 'energy' blather event is that the national retail fuel price average has doubled--actually gone up about 105%--since my immaculation, and still climbing!!
Those oil statistics I quote are complete obfuscations of the actual facts as well as the listeners' perceptions of their meaning. I take advantage of the public ignorance as to the definitions of various numbers I quote. When I speak of '2 percent of the world oil reserves....' I actually mean 2% of the worldwide amount of oil actually extracted, NOT 2% of the world's DISCOVERED oil reserves. If what I say were actually true, wouldn't it stand to reason that we'd have to import 98% of our annual oil usage?!?

I like to make that statement in my campaign speeches. Most attend my blather opportunities due to my notoriety, not because they believe--or agree with--my message. Look at the production problem logically: From application to the first production well, the drilling process is several years long. From that perspective, we'd have lower gas prices today if only that evil George W. Bush would have approved more drilling permits. It's all his fault, I'm just following his lead!! If the country will always have high fuel prices relative to the number of producing wells; why drill at all?!? Why not just import 100% of our oil needs?!? One of the most contradictory actions to come along since my immaculation has been the KeyStone XL pipeline. It has nothing to do with oil exploration, with oil drilling, with oil production; it's only involved with the transportation of crude oil from Canada to the refineries on the Texas Gulf Coast. And yet, I refused to approve it even though the various federal departments could find no area in which the pipeling was not in compliance!!Here is the truth. If we are going to control our energy future, then we’ve got to have an all-of-the-above strategy. We’ve got to develop every source of American energy -- not just oil and gas, but wind power and solar power, nuclear power, biofuels. We need to invest in the technology that will help us use less oil in our cars and our trucks, in our buildings, in our factories. That’s the only solution to the challenge. Because as we start using less, that lowers the demand, prices come down. It's pretty straightforward. That’s the only solution to this challenge. And that’s the strategy that we’ve now been pursuing for the last three years. And I’m proud to say we’ve made progress. Since I took office, America’s dependence on foreign oil has gone down every single year. In fact, in 2010, it went under 50 percent for the first time in 13 years. You wouldn’t know it from listening to some of these folks out here -- (laughter) -- some of these folks -- (laughter) -- but a key part of our energy strategy has been to increase safe, responsible oil production here at home. Under my administration, America is producing more oil today than any time in the last eight years. Under my administration, we’ve quadrupled the number of operating oilrigs to a record high. We’ve got more oilrigs operating now than we’ve ever seen. We’ve opened up millions of new acres for oil and gas exploration. We’ve approved more than 400 drilling permits that follow new safety standards after we had that mess down in the Gulf. We’re approving dozens of new pipelines. We just announced that we’ll do whatever we can to speed up construction of a pipeline in Oklahoma that’s going to relieve a bottleneck and get more oil to the Gulf -- to the refineries down there -- and that’s going to help create jobs, encourage more production. So these are the facts on oil production. If somebody tells you we’re not producing enough oil, they just don’t know the facts.
The 'development' I speak of should be true development, not a method of reward! How much actual development was financed by federal pork paid to Solyndra?!? I contend, very little! And, Solyndra was but one of those we financed that filed for bankruptcy a few short months--in some cases, just weeks--after accepting the federal 'checks.' In all cases, the corporate hierarchies involved were paid--and even received substantial bonuses--as many thousands were laid off--in some cases--with unfulfilled final paychecks. Many contend--and in most cases, it's proven out--that these federal alternative energy SCAMS are little more than rewards to the regime's donors, supporters and campaign workers.
But how much oil we produce here at home, because we only have 2 percent and we use 20, that’s not going to set the price of gas worldwide, or here in the United States. Oil is bought and sold on the world market. And the biggest thing that’s causing the price of oil to rise right now is instability in the Middle East. You guys have been hearing about what’s happening with Iran; there are other oil producers that are having problems. And so people have gotten uncertain. And when uncertainty increases, then sometimes you see speculation on Wall Street that drives up gas prices even more. But here's the thing. Over the long term, the biggest reason oil prices will go up is there's just growing demand in countries like China and India and Brazil. There are a lot of people there. In 2010 alone, China added nearly 10 million cars on its roads. Think about that -- 2010, 10 million new cars. People in China, folks in India, folks in Brazil -- they're going to want cars, too, as their standard of living goes up, and that means more demand for oil, and that's going to kick up the price of oil worldwide. Those numbers are only going to get bigger over time. So what does that mean for us? It means we can't just keep on relying on the old ways of doing business. We can't just rely on fossil fuels from the last century. We've got to continually develop new sources of energy.
Every country on the planet has ever-increasing fossil fuel demands, that's just a fact-of-life. Doesn't make sense that the United States become more involved in oil exploration, oil production and oil refining?!? My regime's complete lack of a beneficial domestic energy policy is--by design--forcing the country into the same circumstance as any third-world rathole. Rather than continuing on a "Saul Alinsky-esque" socio-fascist path, logic would tell everyone--excepting those regime 'followers and supporters'--that America needs to be 'in-the-game!!'
Constantly, the regime attempts to convince the naysayers that all these alternative energy sources will be workable subsitutes for fossil fuels. They may replace small percentages of other fossil fuels, but there's no--across-the-board--subsitute for refined oil! Can you imagine a solar-powered or--funnier, yet--a windpowered Boeing jetliner!?! That's unrealistic, whether your name is George Soros or not!! All those countries I mentioned as leaders in increasing their national oil demands and usage?!? Did I tell you that they're also stepping up their oil exploration and production levels?!? Didn't think so!!
And that’s why we've made investments that have nearly doubled the use of clean, renewable energies in this country. And thousands of Americans have jobs because of it. It also means we’ve got to develop the resources that we have that are untapped, like natural gas. We're developing a near hundred-year supply of natural gas -– and that's something that we expect could support more than 600,000 jobs by the end of the decade. And that’s why we've worked with the private sector to develop a high-tech car battery that costs half as much as other batteries and can go up to 300 miles on a single charge. Think about that. That will save you some money at the pump. And that is why we are helping companies like this one right here and plants like this one right here to make more cars and trucks that use less oil. When I ran for office, I went to Detroit and I gave a speech to automakers where I promised that I was going to raise fuel standards on our cars, so that they’d go further on a gallon of gas. I said we should do the same thing on trucks. I have to tell you, when I said it, I didn't get a lot of applause in the room, because there was a time when automakers were resisting higher fuel standards -- because change isn't easy. But you know what, after three decades of not doing anything, we got together with the oil companies, we got together with the unions, we got together with folks who usually do not see eye to eye, and we negotiated new fuel economy standards that are going to make sure our cars average nearly 55 miles per gallon by the middle of the next decade. That's nearly double what they get today -- nearly double. (Applause.) Now, because of these new standards for cars and trucks, they're going to -- all going to be able to go further and use less fuel every year. And that means pretty soon you’ll be able to fill up your car every two weeks instead of every week -– and, over time, that saves you, a typical family, about $8,000 a year.
Eight thousand dollars -- that's no joke. We can reduce our oil consumption by more than 12 billion barrels. And thanks to the SuperTruck program that we’ve started with companies like this one, trucks will be able to save more than $15,000 in fuel costs every year. Think about that, $15,000. So these trucks can save $15,000 every year. I want people to think about what that means for businesses, what it means for consumers. It is real progress. And it's happening because of American workers and American know-how. It's happening because of you. It's happening because of you.
It's easy for people like me--who rarely drive; who never fill a gas tank--to demand higher CAFE standards. It's far more difficult to meet those more demanding standards! The increased standards are at the expense of affordable vehicles; the retail costs go up a bit each model year, so the consumer doesn't fully realize the increase-over-time. Safety becomes an issue as well, with more-and-more of said vehicles being 'plastic' and aluminum rather than steel.
....and electric cars.... Don't get me started on electric cars!! They're selling so well that 'owe-bama Motors' is curtailing Chevy Volt for a couple of months so over-zealous inventory can catch-up with dismal demand. Who would want one?!? They barely get TWENTY-FIVE MILES on a charge! There's very few charging stations... anyone wanna get stranded?!? Not to mention the battery fires!! Oh.... and talk about payoffs to my buddies!!

Are you also aware that the average annual wage of Chevy Volt buyers is $174,000?!? Shouldn't there be a "Buffett Rule" for Chevy Volt buyers?!?We’re also making it easier for big companies -- some of your customers, like UPS and FedEx -- to make the shift to fuel-efficient cars and trucks. We call it the National Clean Fleets Partnership. And since we announced it last year, the number of companies that are taking part in it has tripled. And that means more customers for your trucks. (Applause.) We're creating more customers for your trucks. And I am proud to say that the federal government is leading by example. One thing the federal government has a lot of is cars and trucks. We got a lot of cars and we got a lot of trucks. And so what I did was I directed every department, every agency in the federal government, to make sure that by 2015, 100 percent of the vehicles we buy run on alternative fuels -- 100 percent. (Applause.) So we’re one of the biggest customers in the world for cars and trucks and we want to set that bar high. We want to set a standard that says by 2015, 100 percent of cars, alternative fuels. So we’re making progress, Mount Holly. But at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how much natural gas, or flex-fuel or electric vehicles you have if there’s no place to charge them up or fill them up. So that’s why I’m announcing today a program that will put our communities on the cutting edge of what clean energy can do. To cities and towns all across the country, what we’re going to say is, if you make a commitment to buy more advanced vehicles for your community -- whether they run on electricity or biofuels or natural gas -- we’ll help you cut through the red tape and build fueling stations nearby. (Applause.) And we’ll offer tax breaks to families that buy these cars, companies that buy alternative fuel trucks like the ones that are made right here at Mount Holly. (Applause.) So we’re going to give communities across the country more of an incentive to make the shift to more energy-efficient cars. In fact, when I was up in New Hampshire, in Nashua, they had already converted all their dump trucks -- they were in a process because of this program -- they were converting it to natural gas-driven trucks. This is something that we did in education -- we called it Race to the Top. We said we’ll put in more money but we want you to reform. We’re going to give you an incentive to do things in a different way. And if we do the same thing with clean energy, we can save consumers money and we can make sure the economy is more secure. So we’ve got to keep investing in American-made energy and we’ve got to keep investing in the vehicles that run on it. That’s where our future is. And in order to continue this progress, we’re going to have to make a choice. We’ve got to decide where our priorities are as a country. And that’s up to all of you. And I’ll give you an example. Right now, $4 billion of your tax dollars goes straight to the oil industry every year -- $4 billion in subsidies that other companies don’t get. Now, keep in mind, these are some of the same companies that are making record profits every time you fill up your gas tank. We’re giving them extra billions of dollars on top of near-record profits that they’re already making. Anybody think that’s a good idea? It doesn’t make any sense. The American people have subsidized the oil industry long enough -- they don’t need the subsidies. It’s time to end that taxpayer giveaway to an industry that's never been more profitable, invest in clean energy that's never been more promising. (Applause.) So I called on Congress, eliminate these subsidies right away. There’s no excuse to wait any longer. And we should put every member of Congress on record: They can stand up for the oil companies or they can stand up for the American people and this new energy future. (Applause.) We can place our bets on the fuel of the past, or we can place our bets on American know-how and American ingenuity and American workers like the ones here at Daimler. (Applause.) That’s the choice we face. That’s what’s at stake right now. So, in between shifts, get on the phone or email or send a letter or tweet -- (laughter) -- your member of Congress; ask them where they stand on this -- because it will make a difference. And you’ll know where I stand on this. Let’s make sure our voices are heard. The next time you hear some politician trotting out some 3-point plan for $2 gas -- (laughter) -- you let them know, we know better.
We're forgetting the affects of natural gas-fueled trucks in two segments, the military and the over-the-road trucks. First the military. Military vehicles from staff cars to pickups, to 5-ton trucks to tanks, must be 'multi-fuel (fossil)' engines, meaning that they'll run on practically any liquid the soldier can get into the fuel tank. During those armed conflicts I get the country into, the vehicles can't always make it to the 'gas station.' They have to find fuel--any kind of fuel--any place they can. The military vehicles must be of 'diesel-fired' design. For those who don't know--including me-I was recently told of this--a diesel engine can start and run with no required electricity, with the exception of turning the engine over to start it. Diesel engines fire by the heat developed in the compression stroke of the engine. Natural gas military vehicles are not practical. Natural gas fueling stations are not available on the battlefield!!
The over-the-road trucking fleets are not practical users of natural gas as a fuel either. The fuel tanks aren't compatible with travelling great distances. The expense involved in complying with their CAFE standards have increased the trucks' purchase prices by at least $6,000, to an off-the-rack price in the $90,000-$100,000 range. That's for a 'plain-jane' model with only the necessities aboard. To upgrade to natural gas fuel will add another $10,000-$15,000 to the purchase price. Pretty soon, the largest segment of the transportation industry--the 10-truck-or-fewer company--out of business. When that happens, you'll be pissin' and moanin' that the government do something!!
